LMAO UPDATE: i’ve written about 52k words total since this post. i think that’s around 60 pages ?? sorry. stress has been killing me. i’ve been writing so much, and i would post my stuff here, but i feel like nobody would care because they’re my OCs and not actual fanfiction-worthy characters.

BUT i am still alive and i see all the love and support people have been giving me on this blog! thank you guys!! there will be fics here eventually LOL

so sorry for the sudden drop in fics, i’ve been writing an insane amount of shit for my friends. i wrote 11k+ words worth of smut for our pookies (original characters). the pookies have overtaken my brain and have no intention on leaving

How to send feedback? This is the official report form on Larian's website. Under the "report type" drop down menu select "feedback".

Need to know the latest game version? Visit the BG3 news page on Steam and click the latest hotfix/patch. At the top of the page it will tell you what game version that is. I'm not sure if it's the same for other platforms though!

The more interest we can show, the more likely they will be to accept this feedback. Wyll deserves at LEAST as much as the other characters on the lower end of content got!!

Not sure why folks keep focusing on Gortash being a slaver being the ultimate evil or something in the game. Especially when Durge canonically is a corpse fucking, baby killing, cannibalistic murderer who also planned on enslaving people!

Durge also can get an ending that turns them into a rapist and rape victim.

You can kill refugees in this game. This include children.

At a specific point you can rape Astarion if you romance him.

But the villain keeping fantasy gnome slaves is what really upsets you? The over the top, emo anime man who put bombs in children’s’ toys?

And as far as Gortash not being relevant in Durge’s story. Please. If you paid attention you’d know that they were co-conspirators of the whole absolute plot. They worked together to do all that shit.

The netherstones are there because they retrieved them together. They recruited Ketheric to the whole cause. They both killed and tortured people to further their goal. You could argue Durge is more evil since in addition to supporting Gortash every step of the way, they also did stuff like fuck corpses.

But the narrative sees Durge as redeemable because they forgot? I’m sorry but that’s hilarious.

As for Gortash’s racial identity, it’s a commonly held belief he’s Turkish coded. His name and features are very Turkish if you’ve been around any Turkish folk. Disregard his VA since that happens a lot. For example Samurai Jack, a clear Japanese character, is voiced by a black man but that doesn’t mean the character is black.

Whether or not Turkish people are seen as “white” really depends since I’ve seen some Turkish folk identify as white and some as Arab.

It’s a little funny to think a few lines being added somehow took away from Wyll when Larian has been ignoring the man since day 1. To which I AGREE that more needs to be done for Wyll. More love and content for Wyll! Always!

But adding 4-5 lines to expand upon what’s already been in game since launch for Durge (technically an origin character) and Gortash (the literal co-mastermind behind the WHOLE plot) isn’t the reason Wyll gets neglected.

there are a LOT of whataboutisms in this ask (we are not about astarion right now!), so i'm going to focus on what i think you're responding to: my posts here and here about a) the racism inherent in larian expanding a (white, slaver) minor antagonist in order to appeal to a specific subsect of the fancommunity rather than devote time and resources to giving the sole black main character something resembling parity with the rest of the main cast, and b) why i personally read gortash as white

FIRST: the easy one. gortash's racial identity. to this i say: reread my post! i am very clear on my reasons for reading him as white, and my reasons for believing that people who, for example, come into my inbox telling me loudly not to say that he's white while not talking about the inherent grossness of making the character they believe to be the only canonically nonwhite significant antagonist a slaver, ie an agent of a system that in real life has been used to subjugate and decimate SPECIFICALLY black people (historically) and other people of colour (through the prison industrial system, for example) by white people in ways that still impact these communities today, are not acting in good faith. i will address the issue of the casting: i am aware that voice actors are not always the same ethnicity as their characters, that's why i focused specifically on the casting for this game. in this particular game, it seems that when characters play major roles, they tend to be cast with an eye towards their race; wyll in fact has had two VAs, both of whom have been black! to me, that speaks to the intention of the studio and forms the basis of my opinion as to what i'm 'supposed' to see; none of this impacts headcanon. obviously.

SECOND: why are wyll and gortash connected? and also, because i'm feeling generous, why is the slavery a big deal?

well question 1 is super easy: theyre connected because theyre in the same game and when patches are put out the dev team make choices as to what is worth reworking and expanding and what isn't, and given that wyll is a black core companion, origin character and main love interest and gortash is a white (or at the very least nonblack) mid-level antagonist, and the changes to gortash's character fit into a broader pattern of larian pandering to a very specific subset of players by playing into the "sexy edgy game that does fanservice" brand while routinely ignoring the calls to expand wyll's rushed storyline, there is a racism problem! why is a black core character being neglected patch after patch while a white (or non-black) character is elevated for fanservice? each choice does not happen in a vacuum, and these choices speak to the priorities of the company!

question 2 is even easier. because ritual godcannibalism is basically a fantasy crime; murder and eating people are individual crimes, anyone can kill anyone else and has done so, ditto cannibalism; slavery is a real world phenomenon that is completely inextricable from a legacy of colonialism subjugation and genocide of black people. slavery cannot be abstracted into being a fun sexy fantasy crime by a thin layer of "but theyre magic people;" it carries its connotations with it. which is not to say i don't think slaver characters should exist as villains — I have my issues with the way racism is handled, with the way slavery is handled, in this game, and i have one of those posts in my drafts right now in fact (you'll be glad to know it specifically criticises writing around astarion) — but i am deeply uncomfortable with how happy people are to equate slavery with any other fantasy bullshit to give themselves free rein not to take it seriously.

meanwhile, and most importantly:

STOP MAKING THE DISCUSSION ABOUT THE RACISM OF NEGLECTING WYLL ABOUT HOW MEAN WE ARE TO GORTY.

this conversation is about wyll, and larian's skewed and racist priorities, and this is THE LAST derailment of it i'm going to indulge!

it is, i think, symptomatic of the way larian has built this brand: bg3 was always marketed as being mature (read: sexual), and that was one of the big draws for players - myself included! especially as media pulls more towards extremes, with mainstream video games starting to get increasingly graphically sexual, graphically violent, and the vogue for 'grey morality' becomes the norm, those boundaries get pushed, and it becomes more and more of a selling point.

larian obviously focused on this, along with the How Do You Do, Fellow Kids brand, the increased accessibility of game devs on twitter, and adopted it heavily into their marketing strategy, and are now pretty reliant on the horny gamer crowd for a lot of their audience, and more importantly, they're doing this on purpose.

which is how you end up in situations like this.

characters (white men) the players want to fuck get centred: they get updates, they get more content, they get favoured. halsin's gone from a side character in EA to a half-fledged romance option, to a full romance option: he shows up in the promotional material, is larian's poster boy for the sex scenes, he gets more content with every update.

now gortash gets more heavily implied situationship lines with the dark urge, because players are horny for him. nevermind that some people aren't playing that way, or that he was originally set up to be a lower-level antagonist; nevermind that if the durge's storyline needed expansion, it should've been with orin and sarevok and bhaal, or that it muddies the writing for the rest of gortash's arc + characterisation: people want to fuck him, so it gets put in the game. it's not even to do with karlach, whose quest so desperately needs expansion! it's specifically catering to the people who want their character to have a Relationship with the slaver, because they're either not interested in or not able to focus on strengthening the weak spots in the narrative: they're just doing things that will net the 'my favourite dating sim' people lmfao.

meanwhile, literal main character wyll gets his quest demoted to a subquest, doesn't get bugfixes, doesn't get a single unique romance greeting after 6 patches and months of requests. he's not a Horny character, so he doesn't get the focus: he's not a player favourite, so he gets nothing. it's just... so unbelievably, indisputably racist, and it's incredibly grim and disappointing to watch it happen in real-time.
