A trope that gets to me: 'guard dog' character and their partner who are both fully aware of it and honestly don't care/kind of like it. Someone says "call your guard dog off" and their partner does call them off. That person, their 'guard dog', is someone who is unreservedly, irrefutably loyal to them. Someone undoubtedly dangerous who is willing to kill, to maim, to obey, simply because of their love for one another. There's no manipulation involved— it is loyalty, brutal, dogged loyalty. And it goes both ways.

How would Tommy respond to a gentle whumper who snuggled him and praised him? What about if he had been in solitary for a few weeks before that?

Well, I’m not sure how far you’ve read, but there is a chapter where there’s technically a little comfort…

Tommy’s only contact for the past five years have been people who:

A) Sell his pain

or

B) Buy his pain

So as you might imagine, they are not the most savory folks.

Initially he treats any affection wish disgust and distrust - there is always poison in the sugar. Even so, if they kept it up long enough, he’d totally melt to it - he just wants to feel good for a little while and pretend, even if he knows it’s only so long until those hands become far less friendly.

Especially if he was after a period of isolation like that. Caius has definitely put him on isolation before, he’s so petty. Like, you don’t appreciate me Tommy, you don’t want me around? Fine. Shoves food through the door and nothing else for a week or two until Tommy begs enough. Dealing with Cauis is still better than complete lockdown isolation.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to incorporate a dumb waiter in Tommy’s room (probably will have to retcon add it in oops) so they can just shove food down that way without any other interaction. Specifically for doing shit like this.

Anyways yeah he would be so desperate for a little affection, he’d let himself get a little carried away bc why not, he’s about to be in a lot of pain anyways
