It will sound harsh but I don’t understand why they just don’t kill south park instead of ruining the show for its fans (and themselves??). Do they feel like they have more ideas to give, or are they doing it because they signed a contract? How do they feel about the show? Do you know ☹️?

I agree with you anon. I don't really see how much more they have to give in terms of South Park the show, whereas they clearly have a lot more to give in terms of new original creative output. I don't think the show sucks (yet) but I do think it's definitely peaked a while ago.

I think that Matt and Trey probably see it as some kind of a safety net. Something "safe" (as far as they're concerned) and familiar, and also an outlet for all their personal frustrations and emotions. I can see why it must be hard for them to let it go.

But I also think they probably got greedy with the crazy, near billion dollar deals they were offered (first by HBO and then Paramount) and also thought that for that amount of money, and all the things the money would allow them to do creatively outside of South Park, they can't refuse.

To put it cynically, maybe they thought that for $900 million, they can put up with putting just any crap out (on their own terms) for a few more years, while working on other projects that actually excite them, that the streaming money will help them fund.

In the Bloomberg interview a couple of years ago, Matt did say that they're looking to eventually sell South Park, which I guess makes sense but also worries me the most. I hope they're just talking about the ownership of the existing catalogue and not the IP for someone to keep making new South Parks after they're done.

#and if I may add… matt and trey aren’t there at the studio as often as they used to be #most of the staff work at home. Tho there is a rotating skeleton crew #but it’s mostly office/ maint. crew +pre prod #but even then some of them opt to stay home #I get mixed messages from other crew that they do their best work at home. they don’t want to move #but supervisors really are tryna push for more ppl to come back in the office #i asked why and it was for morale reasons. ease of communication #the sluggishness of the past specials+ seasons doesn’t stop @ matt and trey’s direction is what i’m getting @ #sluggishness?? is that too harsh?? #idk. not to use slang on main b it Sp is getting Sauceless. #I love it with all my soul and i do have things i love abt the specials+ new season but I can see ​it ain’t got the Dog In ‘Em

I never noticed how often I draw Kenny in 3/4 till now 🤣 so when I boarded a hallway scene, it came naturally to me.

But…. the team have drawn Kenny in 3/4 before. Not as a key pose n holdin it for a beat (which is what I made the mistake of doin) more like a show he’s in motion. This is from a cut scene from Put It Down, I believe Keo drew it but I’ll have to double check.

here’s some brainstorming doodles from Keo and me on the white board and some examples Keo made in my notebook. I won’t forget it, one of my harshest note was “NEVER draw Kenny in 3/4!! Trey hates that!” 🤣 The story leads stressed that Trey is very particular with acting decisions and poses, most of which don’t translate into the animation. It’s for him at the editing stage, to “make his voice sing”. Getting into Trey’s head, funnily enough, requires FEELING. Feeling what he’s going for in terms of delivery, to learn what not to take literally in his script (when trey says “kathleen kennedy is like terminator” it’s not what you initially think it means), what emotion or gesture to put in to elevate a joke, to get the message through. It’s so fascinating!

In short, I didn’t make the cut. I was “too fresh”, and needed more experience with the technical aspect of storyboarding…. but I was complimented by Keo for my intuition, something that can’t be taught. I was over the moon when I was told I got the style of the show, whereas other trainees with 10+ experience couldn’t. Some of them tested but don’t even watch the show!! That’s crazy, but I guess that’s to be expected. My knowledge of the show and deep love for the characters got me this far, but I need to work on my actual story boarding skills (keo said my struggles are in composition and scaling) to stay!! 💪🏼 I’m taking this… as a not yet, not a no. I’m already on their radar, in their database, I’m incredibly lucky I got to make my THIRD connection in the studio, I just need to work on myself until I can arrive. I’m so grateful for all the support from friends family and industry moots to get me this far, it’s only the beginning of the year but I don’t think anything could top what happened to me this March!!!!!

I rewatched post covid recently and I'm thinking over how Kyle opened a prayer saying "Its been a long time since I prayed ,". And ending said prayer with "Please, if there's anyone who could help see me through this, it would be a miracle,". And then Cartman and his family are at his front door
