my first reaction was sadness for yuzuru seeing ilia’s 4A, but it was almost immediately replaced but more positive feelings. yuzu has landed it five times in practice, and i hope he’s the first to properly land it in competition- but regardless he’s inspiring other skaters and i’m very proud of both of them. i’m patiently waiting to see where ilia goes with his career- i just hope the world of figure skating is nice to him. it usually isn’t to rising stars like him.

ABSOLUTELY NO ONE is talking about joe locke’s incredible performance in heartstopper and it’s so upsetting to me!! he makes the show, there is something so inexplicably charlie about him that makes the two of them work together !! you can’t have nick without charlie and i think kit connor was just as wonderful and incredible but EVERYONE is ignoring the intricacies of charlie’s character that joe has so expertly weaved into little moments such as the anticipative fear and anxiety that hides within charlie!! playing a character like charlie is hard and he did a bloody brilliant job of it !! BASICALLY a joe locke appreciation post

p.s. i love kit connor’s performance just as much but i feel like the love needs to be more evenly spread

yes kit connor is the perfect nick nelson, no arguments there, but i have not seen enough appreciation for how accurate joe locke is as charlie spring??? also william gao and yasmin finney ARE tao and elle and you can’t convince me otherwise. like how did they find the characters reincarnated in our universe

Not only have we been having watch parties for all the ice skating competitions, but also Yuri on Ice and movies!

And now we have the Yuri on Ice Pride Cosplay 2022 event going on! 

This event will cover the whole of May and June, more or less, and the rules and guidelines are explained in the server. No need to be a professional or anything similar to participate! We are just a bunch of weirdos that refuse to let their hyperfixation die!

I think they should redub yuri on ice but like properly this time. Multilingual VAs. Native speakers. Yuuri and Viktor supposedly communicate in English. Cool. Let’s hear it. I want everyone speaking the languages their characters would be for each scene. Yuuri speaks Japanese with his family, English with Viktor. Viktor speaks Russian with Yurio. I wanna hear Phichit speaking Thai. Subtitles exist and are useful. I want authentic dubbing. I wanna hear real accents. Please.

Sometimes I think back to the moment when Victor is practicing with Yuuri and he finds himself out of breath and tired while Yuuri wants to keep trying, and Victor speculates that Yuuri’s stamina is because he’s younger and hasn’t had major injuries, and it always makes me wonder what major injuries Victor had and recovered from throughout his career.

Like, we don’t hear anything mentioned about Victor having any major spills or disastrous programs, just that so many skaters looked up to him. And, sure, that’s partly due to the moments the narrations and internal thoughts of various characters focus on, but I wonder how much of that is because, whenever Victor was injured, he was pressured to recover quickly and continue as though he wasn’t seriously hurt. Or, if he did have an awful injury and it wasn’t downplayed, then it’s because it happened before he became Victor Nikiforov™

Yuuri was a Victor fanboy, so if Victor sustained a major injury after he became a well-known skater, surely Yuuri or one of the other skaters or even a coach would have mentioned it, or we’d have gotten a scene where Yuuri and Yuuko are crying while watching a press conference/interview or reading an article where Victor says he’s okay. (Yuuri seems like the type to write a ‘get well soon’ card and send it or maybe even be too nervous to send it, but I digress). So if Victor’s major injury was something he bounced back from while he was Victor Nikiforov™ surely someone would have said something along the lines of “If he can win gold after that ankle injury…” or even a commentator would’ve mentioned, “You might have forgotten when he hit the ice after that lutz in the short program when he was 15, and since then…” etc.

I’m rambling but I just wonder what injuries Victor had over the years, how bad they were, but mostly when he got them in the course of his career

Unpopular opinion time!

Yuuri’s “let’s end this” made sense

Okay, hear me out. I don’t mean that it was the correct endgame or anything like that. “Let’s end this” was a wakeup call that Victor needed.

I watched the Barcelona arc a lot (a lot). And something that struck me was… Yuuri putting his hand on the ice on his SP broke him. His confidence got shattered again. He failed Victor. And he felt that so so starkly.

And Victor failed to pay enough attention. Where he succeeded in Beijing (trying to help Yuuri’s mental breakdown before the FP), he failed in Barcelona.

Yuuri was not yet confident in himself. He was not yet able to shake off his mistake.

And Victor was playing wistful skater, choosing to watch Yurio, Chris, and Otabek over taking Yuuri aside and trying to reassure him about how much coaching meant to him.

No wonder Yuuri decided that he needed to put Victor first, and set the wistful skater free to return to skating, pumping his all into proving that Victor’s coaching had been worth it for Victor to have done.

Yuuri put Victor first, and in the process made Victor have to face up to what he missed. What his not being open with Yuuri almost did. What his lack of experience had almost cost them both.

Then Yuuri rose to the challenge, because he is a magical cinnamon roll who was capable of reaching the stars on his talent, and he had found the perfect motivation: a swansong dedication to Victor.

Then Yurio, who could seemingly care less about Victor’s return to the ice, skated for his life so Yuuri couldn’t retire. Because Yuuri wasn’t willing to go out with a silver from Victor’s efforts. Victor’s efforts deserved gold.

Hopefully Victor took the lesson to heart too. Yuuri had not yet found the confidence of seeing his innate talent, and Victor now has a second chance to help him find it as his coach (and fiance).

I wonder if Katsuki stood on the top of the stage for Worlds that year… (and can’t thank Mizuno enough for the art we’ve been seeing to know that the katsudon is still going strong, skating for Team Japan!)

Nathan Chen’s Iconic Costumes As Yuri On Ice Characters

Let’s do thissss. DISCLAIMER: I absolutely adore Nathan, I think he’s an AMAZING skater, this is all just a bit of fun, because while I do find most of his costumes aesthetically offensive to my eyes, Nathan Chen would not be Nathan Chen without his um…niche outfits. Again, this is my opinion, I’m very happy for you if you love his costumes and think they’re stunning. 

1. Starting off with maybe the least offensive one? In the sense that most figure skaters happen to wear costumes like these: 

Skate America 2017

This gives me very much Phichit vibes:

Excuse the cursed image of Phichit here, but I can definitely see the similarities and appreciate the vibe both Nathan and Phichit were going for. A solid 7.5/10

2. Pyeongchang 2018:

A personal favourite of mine actually!! I’m loving the mesh panels, I think it looks quite elegant and classy, possibly my favourite Nathan Chen outfit ever. 

I’m getting Eros Yuuri from this:

Nathan’s costume is lacking the pretty embellishments, but both Yuuri and Nathan are giving me innocent Eros, soft and playful while maintaining a level of class. I think yes, and my rating is an 8.5/10

3. Grand Prix Final 2019

Vera Wang…babes…what have you done??

It’s confusing, it’s loud, it’s just not for me. My eyes hurt, my head hurts and my heart hurts looking at this. 

Now this one’s confusing because the yellow resembles Leo’s costume, but I’m gonna give this one to Michele Crispino:

Mickey is obnoxious, slightly odd and Italian, and this yellow monstrosity is as well (the GPF in 2019 was in Turin). You don’t quite know what to make of both, so you try your best to ignore its existence. Rating: 2/10 because at least it’s not busy

4. Skate America 2019:

Bestie I- I really can’t defend this. 

This is Yurio only because it lowkey looks like a jungle and Yurio loves big cats. Both are also kinda rude, but have a lot going on so you’re willing to forgive them. Rating is a 3/10 because it’s colourful, but also has me thinking i’m on a psychedelic trip with the 360p quality. 

5. Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 (Short Programme):

La Boheme is kinda basic, but again it could be worse. It’s just a little bland, but I can appreciate the vibe he was going for

This is Victor during his depressive era i.e. Before Yuuri:

Victor’s sad, longing, wants more but doesn’t know how to achieve it, or what ‘more’ can even mean. Like Nathan’s costume. It’s a bit sad, stoic, appears quite 2 Dimensional, but nevertheless remains classy and formal. Rating: 7/10

6. Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 (Free Programme):

Yeah, no this one is just rude. Bestie knew he was gonna win an Olympic Gold Medal, and this is what he chose to wear. This one is obviously JJ:

Boastful, cocky, overconfident, but lowkey iconic. I wouldn’t have either any other way. For that reason, 5/10.
