Erm. I couldn't decide on one sentence so I decided to just share a few paragraphs instead LOL

A cold nose pressed into his hand. Jack gasped and jerked, before looking down.

Toothless was there. Green eyes filled with moisture, he pressed further into Jack's side and crooned a broken sound that tore Jack's heart in two.

Jack fell to his knee, dropping his staff. “Hey, big guy,” Jack said, running his hands along Toothless’ head. Usually he'd long for the comfort of wood against his fingers right now, but the feeling of cool scales under his fingers was a stark reminder of Hiccup, and he'd take what he could get. “Why are you still here with me? I bet they have all the fish you could want back in the Great Hall.”

Toothless didn't so much as perk up at the mention of food. With another warble, Toothless raised his head and looked to the coastline.

Where the silhouette of Hiccup's pyre carved a gash in the sunset.

Translations Chapter 3 WIP

Believe me. Jack wouldn’t believe himself, drenched and shaking as he was, but he needed Hiksti to. He couldn’t let him worry.

Hiksti began speaking again, more slowly and less frantic, and Jack focused on the words breezing past his right ear, ruffling his hair. Winter, cold, fear, dream. A sigh. Hiksti unfurled from him then, and Jack’s entire front chilled with his absence. He kept one hand on Jack’s bicep. For reassurance — whether for Jack, or for himself — it didn’t matter. Jack was just glad it was there.

Hiksti led him out of the water.
