"and then everyone clapped" as a way to imply a story is made up or exaggerated is funny maymay, but also you underestimate people's willingness to clap. i had around 150 people clapping for me earlier today and i didn't even DO anything, some guy just yelled "great job!" and started clapping for me, and then everyone i knew in the vicinity joined in. and then everyone in the wider area was like "oh, is this what we're doing? cool :)". it's not even an uncommon occurrence, i hear people clap pretty often and ill join in without knowing why.
