All that said, though, if your first question when someone says “We need to provide houses and food for our people, that’s a basic human right.” is “But how will we pay for it?” You’ve already lost. There are more empty houses than there are homeless people. Preventative medicine costs less than state-paid emergency healthcare. We have advanced technologically such that we grow (and waste) enough food to feed every single human being on the planet. That you have assigned a value to these things, that every human being is entitled to, is a failing of your own (and society’s) ideology, and not a question of “how much it costs.”

honestly i feel it’s one of the great success of the latin language that we have attested forms of both a word for “to moo” (mugire) and “to moo back” (remugire)

English is a difficult language. It can be understood through tough thorough thought, though.

Happy holidays to all my fellow trans and non-binary people who will be misgendered and deadnamed this holiday season. I’d send all of you cards with your correct names on them if I could.

Your assignment Tumblr...
If you choose to accept it. Give Donald Trump the Bennigans Cummerbund and Icky Azaghâl treatment and come up with increasingly ridiculous plays on his name. And (this is critical), NEVER USE HIS REAL NAME AGAIN. Can you imagine the Twitter meltdown if he found out that everyone had taken to calling him ridiculous names? It would be glorious.

The Grim
The first thing buried in a graveyard, so the story goes, has the duty to stand watch over it for eternity and keep the bad things out. It became tradition to bury a black dog before any man or woman was laid to rest, to make sure that no human would be locked out of heaven  (or, for that matter, hell) forever.
They never asked the dogs what they felt about that sort of thing, but then, they were good dogs, and were doing their duty. And would do so for eternity. The black dogs who stood watch were dubbed Grims, though as time passed, no one ever thought they’d be needed. Still, the tradition went on.
When the dead began to rise to attack the living, the Grims were standing watch. Not one walking corpse made it out of a graveyard with a Grim standing guard over it, for dogs know the secrets of burying bones so that they stay buried.
Without the reinforcements of all the dead ever buried, the others who rose that day did not overwhelm the living. And when those living went to find out why, they found the Grims, still standing watch.  The survivors told them that they were good dogs, who had done their duty.  And the Grims were satisfied, and taught the living the trick of making sure bones stayed buried, so no dead would walk again.
That’s how the story goes, anyway.

STEVEN UNIVERSE IS BACK!
Tumblr media
It feels like it’s been far too long since the heartwarming delight of Steven Universe was in our lives—but the wait for more Crystal Gem goodness is nearly over. Steven Universe is back January 4th, with a whole week of episodes!
The event is ostensibly to celebrate Steven’s Birthday, but really, it means we’re getting five episodes, one a day, between January 4th and January 8th commonly called a “Steven Bomb” by Cartoon Network, who announced the show’s return with a press release today. Here’s a rundown of the new episodes, as well as a new picture from the first episode in the line up, “The Answer”:
STEVEN-BOMB 4 (EPISODES) - [ January 4th - 8th ]
“The Answer”– Garnet finally tells Steven the story of how she came to be a Crystal Gem.
“Steven’s Birthday” – Steven has a birthday party out at the barn, and decides he has some growing up to do.
“It Could’ve Been Great” – The Gems take a trip to the moon.
“Message Received” – Steven has doubts about believing in everyone.
“Log Date 7 15 2” – Steven sneaks a listen to a friend’s audio diary.

That’s weird.
So, I made an appointment for “preliminary testing” with the doctor who does adult asd evaluations, just to get that out of the way.  She just sent me the intake forms and some additional information, and it sure looks like full diagnostic testing, but it’s quoting the timeframe and cost of the preliminary.  I don’t really know why I’d need a lunch break for a 2-hour session in the am but ok?  Maybe it’s just a general form...
It would be really nice to suddenly discover that all I needed for diagnosis was a 2-hour, $150 session instead of a multi-day $1200 assessment, but the universe is probably not that nice.

Modern science hasn’t advanced enough yet to make the technology of Jurassic World a reality, but these Hatching Dinosaur Egg Candles might help tide us over while researchers continue messing with mosquitos preserved in amber.
Each candle starts out as a whole dinosaur egg measuring 5.5″ tall. As the candle burns the eggshell melts away to reveal a baby velociraptor emerging from the molten wax.

Why do we think about “gender fluidity” like we do? People talk about “girl” and “boy” days like they are these random external things that wash over them; like random facts, and not like someone is casually oscillating through positions in a power structure.
