FOR INSTANCE THESE MEN 🤮 but who cares when all i want is a fictional man created by a woman to push me around and slap me so hard that i land in the hospital 💀

all i’m trying to say is: these BL fans are psychotic to a T they are all colourblind apparently!!!! that’s also very concerning, they are gg to populate and i don’t know what to do

talking about 만화 stories

before this, i just want to say that 야화첩 (painter of the night) is one of my favourite manhwas of all time, i’ve read it more than any other stories and i don’t know what makes it good?

윤승호 yoon seung ho, the main character, is a man that you’d typically meet in jail, he has completely surpassed the definition of a walking red flag in the dictionaries of every language and dialect. that’s also one of the reasons why i’m in love with the story, you kinda see how seung ho becomes a different person after meeting 나겸, his convenient butt plug

last night i was reading 나를 사랑하지 않아도 (even if you don’t love me) and i felt so so frustrated because firstly, the MC, 승건’s face looked almost akin to painter of the night’s art style??? the writer may be a fan so i can’t say much. TBH i rly liked seungeon because his student arc felt the most genuine, but scholarship student jiwook, irked me to no END i wanted to drop it but i soldiered on towards season 2

WHAT MADE ME MAD:

- Jiwook is a brat for no reason? idk if the author wanted to create this tension between the love interests but he was just being a baby i can’t even and the enemies to lovers trope doesn’t COUNT if the main character hates each other for absolutely no reason

- the art style slaps but when this manhwa first came out everyone thought it’s going to be a painter of the night w a modern-day concept

- i think the psychotic guy, seungeon’s butler friend and seungeon are the most interesting in the story when usually in manhwas like these the most interesting bit would be the poor character w piling debt

- lastly, i enjoyed it thus far! i just can’t seem to continue when i possess simulation sickness over the fact that the author didn’t seem to portray the slightest indication of a time skip when she time skipped twice into the future, it’s been 4 years and then 10 years and jiwook didn’t change one bit? he’s 33 after the time skips btw

- LASTLY LASTLY! man this was so depressing, the way seungeon and him both had their almost happy ending, he supposedly bought a dog for the love of his life and shit had to get so fucked up, idk if i can deal with adult stuff like this, why can’t both of them just stay in school and pretend that adulting phase never happened

i think i’ll need anti-depressants if i continue any further so i have to put this story aside for awhile

조개 소년 PEARL BOY

- i liked this more than i should have!!!!

- jooha is a gem 😍 or should i say ‘pearl’?

- gave me a lot of anxiety i felt like my blood pressure kept fluctuating as i scroll through the chapters yknow

- whatever it is, this webtoon has one of the most ‘healthiest’ couple out of most of the lezhin BL’s i’ve read and yes, despite that, this couple seemed to be hindered by so many psychotic creatures i feel like jumping into this fictional world to take down choi pil won myself

the purpose of this post was merely to rant i’ll be reading more lezhin manhwas so please pray for my mental well-being while i enter this phase of life

2023 began a month ago but and i subsequently fell back into my reading, fanfiction and webtoon phase. it’s been like that since 2020, slurping up as much content as i can. i’ve started a new job, a stone’s throw away from home and university is (hopefully) going fairly well.

webtoon reading was one of the many hobbies that stuck when i first discovered its ability to mitigate my anxiety back in early 2021. the hobby gradually made its way into my nightly ‘quiet’ time routine for 5-6 months before i started a different hobby.

but!! for the past few weeks, i mustered the courage to clear my gallery and download ‘webtoon’. i caught up with so many manhwas, mostly new but some were manhwas from back in 2021 that i used to enjoy!!! my favourites would be:

manhwas/manhua/manga:

salad days (kuaikan) - a ballerino and a boxer met at the children’s palace (if you like that childhood friends to lovers trope)

jinx (lezhin) - most importantly, if a manhwa is from lezhin, it’s much likely a BL (and toxic) main character is a professional mma boxer

pearl boy (lezhin) - i really liked this but i only stopped because the main character, dooshik, looked like someone i previously dated 💀 edit: HE LOOKED DIFFERENT AFTER THE AUTHOR WENT ON HIATUS HENCE THE CONTINUATION (spoilers: main character is a gangster so there’s a lot of fighting and violence)

omniscient reader (webtoon) - apparently a very popular manhwa

the boxer (webtoon) - this is such a shonen themed manhwa but i like it!!!

hectopascal (webtoon) - street fighter main character and rich tycoon main character on a revenge partnership

homesick (webtoon) - my latest obsession after Eleceed and Jungle Juice! saving the chapters so i don’t have to wait months for an update

she’s hopeless (webtoon) - high school romcom

the guide to capturing a black lotus (kuaikan) - i like this because it’s such a typical isekai manhua but the art style is so dreamy (like most chinese manhua actually)

TRASHY GOSSIP REVIEWS: ATLUS’ / SEGA’s PERSONA 5 (PART 1)

no screenshots because this game kept entering a block scene on my PS??? like don’t enter it then? I took a photo with my phone because i needed to add some colour to this post. This picture was also the very beginning of my journey with the phantom thieves!!! 🤢 just kidding i love teenagers and love to form cliques and hang out with them virtually!!!!

Persona 5 is my favourite trivia game. I simply want to google the shit out of P5’s classroom answers for the next 60 hours. I’ve played persona 5 long enough that I thought I could do that for real life University quizzes too. The sheer disappointment when I found out that IGN did not create a step by step answer sheet for my real life quizzes…disappointing :(

I pride myself as an avid ‘reader but i cannot read pages and pages of Ann’s anxiety-inducing concerns about Ryuji’s unnerving behaviour. I’d like to believe that I ‘KNOW’ the game but honestly, I’ve only just beaten the 6th palace and started dating hifumi. I probably still have like 165 hours to go. The game is evenly paced but sometimes the squad drags me to places for the entire day I can’t sit down and have a nice date at home with Hifumi. (atlus, how dare you)

I find the dating aspect of the game refreshing because it’s rarely seen in any RPGs i play, and Final Fantasy certainly doesn’t count. As an asexual a girl who hates everyone, i can’t seem to find the right partner for my MC, I ain’t no matchmaker; if my bestie complains to me about her relationship, i’d just tell her to date me (problem solved). I’m not even a problem solver, I’m a problem avoider.

Despite my aversion to the concept of dating, i don’t want to impose my beliefs onto my MC. I don’t think that’s fair. I just want him to be loved by someone (not me, but someone) I then decided to research every dateable character’s credentials like the tiger mum i will never become. I thought Hifumi is the only one worthy of becoming my daughter in law MC’s partner. ahem

Anyway, the dating mechanics is neither significant nor the main aspect of the game. I believe the plot is mainly centred on a group of high schoolers who have nothing to do with their free time. If I had a dollar for every time I utter “mind ur own damn business, stay in school” at the stupid screen, I’d have enough dollars for a ticket to Atlus’ office to expedite their Persona 6 release

Perhaps adulthood has taught me that the most important thing in life is sleep. I can’t seem to relate to the phantom thieves at all??? They are constantly investigating and neglecting their sleep just to explore palaces. I simply can’t comprehend their level of productivity. Working in marketing + pursuing a degree in marketing had me praying that I stop reading trashy books and playing trashy games so I get at least 6 hours of sleep each night.

Joker aside- JOKES aside, I do enjoy Persona 5 very much, but at this point, I do want to quickly 95% and say good bye to this healthy (not toxic at all) game. I meant truly completing mementos and main story line kinda completion. I felt inclined to say that on some nights I’d doze off and jolt awake when the controller falls onto my face whenever I’m playing P5. I’m also kinda playing Ghost of Tsushima concurrently hence my distraction.

TRASHY GOSSIP REVIEWS: Monolith Soft’s Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (PART 1)

Disclaimer!!! This is not a review for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, there’s no tutorial or whatever, it’s just me trying to justify whether Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will be worth my $60 by purchasing Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for $89 (yes yes, very astute sherlock)

Another!!! Disclaimer: this is incomplete as i struggle to parkour over my fat rolls and cut my toe nails, but it is also due to the fact that i’m playing Persona 5 and God Of War (I have ADHD) and will be writing a gossip column for these two non-switch games too stay tuned (i can’t screenshoot Persona 5 so perhaps not) Also, minor spoilers ahead and i’ll end this post with a ‘xoxo gossip girl’ if you aren’t up for it, don’t read it sparkly hoe ✨

Before the release of XENOBLADE CHRONICLES 3, I wanted to dabble in the Xenoblade franchise before making this very hefty decision (89 USD) of getting the latest instalment upon its release. And of course, in the midst of this review, I made the also very hefty decision to buy Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and it’s companion DLC (89 USD).

I’ve had my share of experiences in JRPGs this year, namely Persona 5, Final Fantasy VII, Monster Hunter and Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. I haven’t beaten any of them yet mainly because I was supposed to have a life outside of reading, netflix and video games but I chose to sleep instead and spend the next 14 hours of my day muting my boss’ calls on whatsapp.

On a typical JRPG play date, I’d download the Japanese Voiceover + any free crates or loots offered by Nintendo/PSN for using their console. And while I was supposed to download the FREE japanese voice pack for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Lips should move the way it should, no????)

I was fairly delighted to find that Rex (the MC) possess a very cute British accent (Listen, I love Great Britain and the fact that my country was once a British colony with very handsome accents and oh wow magnificent grading schemes for the GCSEs and geography lessons that don’t teach you countries but landforms and forests instead very sexy yes?

i’m mildly joking. i just thought that every time Rex speaks and I close my eyes, it feels like Harry Styles is narrating a story about Fonsett Village and justifying his need to send money back home (to his wife ME, i’m the damsel who needs money back home)

All in all, I didn’t manage to download the Japanese Voice pack mainly because I am a disappointment.

(I told my Japanese language tutor the same thing and from my peripheral vision could see that she was scrambling for an opportunity to grab her asthma inhaler from her bag)

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 at the beginning was merely dialogue and watching Rex salvage for parts to sell. After which, he lands himself a 200,000 gold quest and received 100,000 gold upfront (VERY CONVENIENT) *the corporate world should take notes ✍️

Oh I must also mention that he only buys an armour before transferring 90,000 gold to Fonsett village (I actually let out a very huge gasp when I saw what he was trying to do) His team comprises a hodgepodge of characters, two with an American accent and an uptight welsh cat girl (Nia) who sounds like an angry Virgo.

I will be talking about the rest of the game (if i’m not busy lying in bed and doing nothing) in the next part of this trashy game review. Til then!

TRASHY GOSSIP REVIEWS: Supergiant’s Hades (PART 1)

video game rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’ve known about Greek Mythology since I was a wee kid (my mum has an obsession and would read to me about the slaying of the Minotaur, Medusa’s decapitation and the Trojan horse) Unlike the kids who read Percy Jackson and watched Hercules, I grew up reading this Persephone and Hades webtoon (Lore Olympus????) I think???? I also read half of Madeline Miller’s’The Song of Achilles’ and ‘Circe’. So nobody can say I didn’t know Greek Mythology - I haven’t read The Odyssey or Iliad

Before I get ANY game on the eshop, I’d google and youtube the hell out of the game cause i’d always end up buying games I didn’t like to play. I’ve never played a Hack and Slash game in my life but I really liked greek mythology (ok not like in a HUGE fan kind of way, I like it to some extent)

MC is Zagreus, Son of Hades and he’s trying to escape the house of Hades in rebellion (nothing like a nice father/son cold war III) after my 5th death, I swore I’d stop dying so I don’t have to witness this Korean drama unfolding in front of my eyes.

Zagreus’ dashes reminded me of ‘Celeste’ (that indie game) and I would constantly ‘forget’ to dash because i didn’t know i was THAT privileged and entitled (ah to be the prince of the underworld my dream n desire) If you die too much, this character in the game would advise you to keep ‘dashing’ and stop zoning out, thinking of freedom or whatnot. I zone out a lot in real life and I can relate to Zagreus a tad.

Gods would also appear now and then to aid u in your sad, pathetic attempt at escaping. Each God will give you a choice between three power ups to utilise for ONE escape attempt. The next time you die, your powers are reset but you still progress in some way. For instance, if you collect enough currency, you’d be able to upgrade a part of the underworld, eg your bedroom or purchase a new weapon. You can also give a jar of honey to a ‘friend’ (whomever you want to butter up to)

I guess I can’t relate to Zagreus to some extent because he would consistently refuse to SLEEP. excuse me how can u NOT want to sleep??? I’d take a nap and then wake up for a second nap.

I don’t have much to say other than how immaculate the art style is. My favourite Greek God was Ares, God of War, prior to playing this game, but now I don’t really have a favourite, and I’d rather settle on Supergiant’s version of Achilles. Whose style is also quite impeccable 😍

I don’t think I am proper enough to give this game a serious review unless I’ve clocked in more than a hundred hours. I only have an opinion and that is how much I loved every single part of this game. I could throw my switch into the depths of hell and ask Zagreus if he doesn’t mind me touching his fine ass ;)

Not a blog I was expecting to start, I was thinking 'Billionaire Mindset' and stupid, scammy investment guru psychedelic manipulation kind of blog where I can churn something manipulative out and then make $50000 selling courses on how to pin stuff on pinterest.

BUT I have so many things to say about the games I play (as well as the books I've read AND the animes/TV shows I've been watching) I'm such a nerd LOL and don't even bother about the 6-episode long Netflix gaming documentary that made me realise how much laziness I actually possess.

A little bit of background about me: I work in marketing, but other than that, I indulge myself in other hobbies like sleeping etc. My dream job is what ConcernedApe is doing (where I lock myself in a room to work on my project and no colleague is there to ask me to help fix the fucking printer)

My native languages are English, Mandarin and Bahasa Indonesia. I attend weekly language classes in Korean (5 years), Japanese (1 year), Mandarin (just polishing) and French (2 months). I'm learning the language so that when I travel, I don't have to talk to people. I do not consider myself a polyglot because I'm not going to utilise the language for a good cause, I'm just desperate enough to NOT wait for the next manhwa, manhua and manga translation.

All in all, I plan to rant on this blog and pour screenshots from A, B and C consoles or rip pages out from a book and complain how much I like or hate this crap. I also don't plan to re-play games or re-read books within the 2-year interval. I have ADHD and repetition will aggravate my mental health (I think).
