hey, it’s been a while! Didya miss me?
Anyway, here’s why you should vote for me!
This blog inspired multiple animal and otherwise science-based brackets, adding some variety to a sea of blorbo brackets!
We got a lot of people passionate about some obscure less-loved whales, like the Rice’s whale and the Hector’s dolphin!
Our ultimate winner was the beloved big blue whale!
idk man. whales. they’re real neat
If I do not win I am open to starting a homoerotic rivalry with my conquerer

It’s been a long and arduous journey but I am pleased to announced that the winner of the 2023 Whale Swag Tournament is....
The blue whale!!!
Thank you so much to everyone who supported this tournament, I had a blast! I hope you all had as much fun as I did. Here’s to the blue whale, and to every other cetacean out there, whether they competed in this tournament or not! You’re all swagged out in my heart!

THE FINAL VOTE
Tumblr media
[ID: A photo of a blue whale underwater and a photo of a beluga underwater, with a VS symbol. End ID.]
It’s all come down to this. 62 cetaceans have fallen, leaving just two standing (swimming?)
Now you must make your greatest and final choice.

Salamander Showdown!!
Hi, everyone! This is a poll bracket for salamanders, from real life! A couple of rules:
1. Must be a member of the order Caudata! (Salamanders.)
2. Must be real only, no fictional salamanders! Sorry. :(
3. Please do not submit your pets (but feel free to submit their species and send us pictures of them!)
4. Be nice to each other and to the salamanders! I am not afraid to block anyone being rude, we’re all here to have fun and celebrate our slippery friends.
Submission form is here!
Submissions will remain open until 11:59 PM EST, Friday, March 17th (or if we get a high number of responses before then; we are college students and don’t want to get too overwhelmed!).
tagging a few blogs who inspired this bracket!

SEMIFINALS
Tumblr media
[ID: A photo of a vaquita surfacing and a photo of a beluga underwater, with a VS symbol between them. End ID.]
Our other matchup for the semifinals is just as fierce! In one corner, we have the little vaquita, the smallest species of cetacean at just over four feet long! Their name is Spanish for ‘little cow’ and while I can’t say I get the cow part, the little part is quite fitting! These pint sized porpoises are struggling to survive in their native home of the gulf of California, but they can at least be proud of making it so far in the competition!
The other half of this fight is the beluga whale, who was certainly proved a powerful competitor. Although if I was the beluga, I’d watch my back. The sperm whale had some very dedicated supporters…
It’s easy to see why the beluga made it this far! These squishy arctic beasts are known for their friendly appearance and delightful noises. You need all that extra padding when you live in Arctic waters! Another adaptation for the Arctic belugas sport is their lack of a dorsal fin! Gets in the way of the ice!

SEMIFINALS
Tumblr media
[ID: A photo of a narwhal sticking its head out of the water and a photo of a blue whale underwater, with a VS symbol between them. End ID.]
It’s semifinal time baby!! In corner number one, we’ve got the two-toothed Arctic wonder the narwhal! Yes, the horn is actually a tooth, and yes, it is possible in rare instances for them to have two tusks. These oddballs are certainly worthy of their spot in the final four but they’re up against…
The blue whale! Forget largest whale, these guys are the largest animal that has ever existed on the planet! In addition to being the largest, they’re also one of the loudest. Blue whales make incredibly loud and low vocalizations that sit just barely inside the realm of human hearing! They’re unfortunately endangered due to lingering effects from whaling, but they’re absolutely crushing it in the competition!

It has always been a challenge of strength, size does matter. The blue whale will triumph.
You’ll have a chance to prove whether or not the blue whale will triumph very soon!

The removal of the humpback whale so early on in the tournament is a travesty honestly. They’re like, the peak whale. Everyone loves a good humpback. Yet she’s gone now…. In her honor I will be voting for the Absolute Beast that is the sperm whale because she deserves it. Make it count besties. Do it for her (the humpback whale)!!!!
I have some bad news for you about the sperm whale…
I agree, it’s a shame the humpback got knocked out so early! They’re one of my favorites. But the matchups were random and the people had their say, so nothing more can be done.

Vaquita, the smallest cetacean vs. Blue whale, the biggest animal that's ever lived as far as humans know, is the ultimate whale showdown possible.
I am willing to recruit friends to ensure this will happen, I will betray my best friend by not voting beluga for this.
Don’t let me influence you anon! Vote with your heart! But if your heart yearns for the ultimate matchup, then hopefully we get it!

I know I’m not supposed to say who I’m rooting for and skew the results, but I really hope the final round ends up being blue whale vs vaquita. I just think biggest cetacean vs smallest cetacean would be funny
Anyway, the semifinals will be starting tomorrow!
