Self-published artists’ books and zines from the xerox generations of the late 70s, 80s and early 90s closely parallel the sensibility of independent music labels of the time, especially the alternate distribution networks created by these labels and the zine culture around their music and shows. Here’s one overlap found in the archive of Franklin Furnace here at MoMA Library - the first two newsletters (1984-85?) by K Records (Calvin Johnson & co.) of Olympia WA - “The K cassette revolution is exploding the teenage underground into passionate revolt against the corporate ogre since 1982."
