I haven’t been keeping up with the Simpsons and neither of the characters are notable EXCEPT in the context of them as a pair. They’re just background filler you get the vibe that neither of them have the connection to Homer that Barney does. Or moe. They’re all miserable shmucks but Larry and Sam’s relationships to the other patrons are based entirely in proximity. It makes sense their roles would be replaced by Lenny and Carl down the line because those two have a much more immediate connection to the main cast. But I’ll always just kind of love that little natural bit of separation in the earlier stuff. That does make them ignoring Larry for like 30 years only to kill him off completely insane tho

Also it’s so fucked that in that new Larry episode sam wasn’t in it. They’re a package deal why the fuck would you kill Larry if Sam wasn’t going to have any emotional reaction. Or even appear really. That’s their whole thing they’re just the other two barflies 😭
