The Statistical Commission consists of 24 member countries of the United Nations, elected by the United Nations Economic and Social Council on the basis of an equitable geographical distribution. The term of office of members is four years.

The Friday Seminar on Emerging Issues was established as a space for the global statistical community to explore emerging issues. It is a place which serves as a learning environment where statisticians come together with specialists and experts to explore innovative topics and address the interplay between official statistics and the broader data ecosystem.

Afternoon session: Official statistics and data governance
After exploring different models and frameworks of data governance and the generation and use of data, the afternoon session aims to address how data governance is approached in the national statistical systems. The objective is to achieve an overarching vision on how data is managed, used and transferred across the system to allow its use for official statistics.
Panel 3: Emerging strategies for data and statistics in national statistical systems (15:00 – 16:30)
Speakers featuring national examples of data governance modals, data sharing agreements and national data coordinators, among others.
Panel 4: Possible strategies to bring data governance into the Statistical Commission (16:45 – 17:45)
Speakers include the Vice-Chair of the Commission, Co-Chair of CCS-UN, Eurostat, and 2 or 3 national perspectives.

Now available online: the World Statistics Pocketbook which presents profiles for over 200 countries and 30 regions with latest data for up to 50 indicators.
The World Statistics Pocketbook 2022 edition (Series V, No. 46) is the forty-sixth in a series of annual compilations of key statistical indicators prepared by the United Nations Statistics Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs. Up to 50 indicators from more than 20 international statistical sources are presented in one-page profiles for 30 world geographical regions and over 200 countries or areas of the world.
The Pocketbook profiles are organised into 5 sections; general information, economic indicators, major trading partners, social indicators, and environmental and infrastructure indicators. This issue presents data for the economic, social, environmental and infrastructure sections generally for three reference years ‐ 2010, 2015 and 2022 ‐ when available, or the most recent data previous to these years, back to 2000. For the general information and major trading partners sections the reference year is 2022 and 2021 respectively, unless otherwise footnoted. The indicators in the profiles cover the following topics: communication, crime, development assistance, education, energy, environment, finance, gender, health, international tourism, international trade, labour market, national accounts, population and migration, price and production indices and science and technology.

Statistical classifications are a key requirement for the production of reliable, comparable and methodologically sound statistics. The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) is the custodian of several international standard classifications that are being maintained and updated to ensure their applicability to current economic, social, environemnt and other phenomeno that are being measured in international statistics. The international classifications are being used by virtually every country in the world as the basis for their own national classifications.
UNSD is involved in several aspects of international work on statistical classifications.
