They disagreed over who should drive. Din won easily when he suggested Luke knew the terrain better, and being an excellent shot would give them tactical advantage should anyone attack them. He always knew just how to stroke Luke’s ego, with that steady handed practicality that Luke found so incredibly appealing.

Luke did know these dunes well- too well.

He held on tightly to Din instead, reveling as the wind whipped his hair around, squeezing Din tightly around the middle. Truth be told, part of his protesting had been bravado, masking some internalized fear he needed so badly to let go of. And with Din, he always could.

There was something thrilling in this, that played into his teenage daydreams that he could finally lean into. Secret thoughts he’d never shared with another soul. How many times had he let his mind wander thinking about Biggs? Fantasy-Biggs driving him to make out on the crest of a dune, with Luke's arms wrapped around him just like this? Luke had lost count.

Din’s hand patted his gently, bringing Luke back. Din let his fingers rest there for a moment as Luke nuzzled the warm beskar at his back.

And for once in his life, Tatooine really felt like home.
