janice was no stranger to tears, though she did her best to keep the stronger emotions below the surface on duty, no need to get distracted. she felt and felt strongly, which meant that tears joined in on the positive as well as the negative. passing over a tissue, nothing worse than getting over what made you sad and being reminded the next time you looked in the mirror. "just because i don't have to doesn't mean i won't," andie was one of the first friends she made upon the enterprise that came with her loyalty.

the crying part andie has already accomplished readily. the tears themselves have pretty much dried up already, but even as she wrestles control of her breathing she can still feel the puffy, scratchy eyes and the drying tear tracks and there's still the pressure of a dehydration headache that only makes itself known once the crying has stopped enough for everything else to come back. she brings up a hand to wipe at her eyes.  "thank you. i'm okay, really."  or she will be, at the very least.  "you don't have to worry about me."

several years aboard several ships and her worse injury was a sprain or concussion, only now that she has returned to civilian life is she stuck in a hospital for several more days. life's irony does find its moments.

of course it could be worse. the doctor's had spent a lot of time explaining how lucky she had been and all the ways her injuries could have been more extensive. she supposes it was meant to make her feel better and she wondered whether it would reassure ellie to hear any of it, but she suspects it will just make her think about all the people who weren't so lucky as it had for janice. "there's a long list of people who should have seen this coming, you are not one of them."

officer's yeoman is one of the three tracks an enlisted crewman can be trained to fulfil as yeoman, the others include supply and executive. it is typically assumed that an officer's yeoman were the higher scoring trainees from their class, though often the case, they can also have prior experience that lends itself to being part of a landing team or a regular presence on the bridge.

upon a ship they are usually assigned to a department chief or the captain to perform administrative and clerical work on their behalf as well as act as the officer's aide. one benefit from the position is personal quarters close with a dedicated work area close to their officer's quarters.

It's like he has stolen the words from her diary. Raised upon a ship, her days were spent staring at the stars as her parents studied and plotted them, falling in love with the stories found in their patterns the way no matter which planet they restocked one most had something to say about the stars.

But Pavel was right, nearly any time spent on the ground, while the views were beautiful, left her yearning to be back at flight. "I don't think there's anything better," of course, since joining Starfleet time planetside often brings the additional joy of a break from the rules and regulations.

He places his palms down on the grass behind him, leaning back onto his arms for a better look at the night sky. These stars are entirely unfamiliar to him, foreign stars on an equally foreign planet that hold stories and shapes he can only guess at, but they're as beautiful as the stars that hover above Terra and Pavel finds himself creating his own constellations out of star clusters with his eyes.

"This is why I joined Starfleet," Pavel muses, lightyears away. "Because I loved the stars. I think I will never get tired of seeing them from this angle. We see the stars every day, but it is different to be among them rather than just looking up at them. It is beautiful."

deep space. the uncharted. she had spent nearly her whole life amongst the stars finding the unknown but even when danger was breathing down her neck there was always someone there to share the fear or help save the day. she can't imagine facing it alone, never knowing when it would come to an end. despite everything she's seen she's not sure she could endure that, "i think that only makes it that much more impressive."
