Katsura Exhibit - Character Design Detail Translations
Earlier this year, Tiger & Bunny series character designer Masakazu Katsura held an exhibit that ran from April 27 to May 8 commemorating the 40th anniversary since his debut. It displayed a variety of his work, including designs for Tiger and Bunny 2, as well as included facts about the character designs, which have been translated below.
-
- Kotetsu's jacket sleeves have 7 buttons
- Ivan bites his nails
- Pao-lin wears a short-sleeved tracksuit under the sweatshirt
- Ivan's embroidered satin jacket is made to order
- Katsura changed Thomas's design after reading the script, giving him a large hood with a cross mark to show he's signaling people to stay away; Katsura likes the dichotomy between that and his OP "come on" pose
- nanosystem undersuits don't have a zip fastener on the back
- The face transformation during Good Luck mode doesn't serve any practical purpose. But one of the great things about TaiBani is that it still includes stuff like that.
- Katsura wanted to use the nanosystem concept this time, and is glad he did because they actually used it in the script and it's a neat plotpoint.
- Kotetsu looked like he would get cold, so Katsura put a jacket on him; many people like the gilet style, so he made it partly removable
- Yuri's necktie contrasts Kotetsu's, it's black and white to symbolize the law
- everybody's clothes are meant to be part of their daily lives; for example Karina's jacket is the one she wore in the movie
- the nanosystem is authenticated by a fingerprint reader
- Fugan is right-handed
- Mugan is left-handed
- Each has a snakeskin design on his dominant arm and the rings
- Fugan's cloak is lined with dark green
- Mugan's cloak is lined with red
- This is supposed to contrast with T&B
- The green part of Tiger’s armor is lime yellow green
- The luminous part is yellow - The red part of Barnaby’s armor is magenta
- The luminous part is neon pink
- The armor does not automatically regenerate when damaged
- Honeycomb pattern seems to flicker over the damaged area.
- Wild Tiger's facial design evokes a Noh mask; when the face is down, it looks angry, and when he looks up, it looks like it’s smiling
- Thomas and Subaru’s black and white armors are supposed to invoke the image of angel and demon
- Underneath the chest and lower leg parts is a body suit
- Thomas' hoodie is made of leather, dark blue in color
- The white pattern “X" means "stay away"
- Barnaby
- Hair color: smoky blonde
- Eyebrow color: dark smoky blonde
- Iris color: light emerald green
- Jacket: dark wine red
- Low-rise skinny cargo pants: dark green-gray
- Buckskin leather boots
- Kotetsu
- Hair color: brown
- Iris color: light brown
- Shirt and socks: deep blue-green
- Gilets, jacket and pants are all in various shades of gray
- Ryan
- Hair color: ultra light beige
- Iris color: beige
- Clothes: the inner layer is a long, seven-quarter length t-shirt covered by a gold bolero jacket made of a stretchy, metallic fabric
