Dowen college: Three of the students Sylvester Oromoni mentioned are currently in police custody – Odumosu The Commissioner of Police in Lagos state, Hakeem Odumosu, says three students of Dowen College, Lekki Lagos are currently assisting the police in their investigation into the death of Sylvester Oromoni junior, a 12-year-old student of the college. Odumosu disclosed this in an interview with Channels TV. The police boss said three of the five students mentioned by Sylvester before he died are already in custody and cooperating with the police in their findings. Although Odumosu did not give the identities of those in custody, he insisted that they are key suspects. The police boss explained that the Command is set to go for the post mortem of the body in Delta state to ascertain the cause of death. He assured that police authorities in both Lagos and Delta State are keenly interested in the outcome of the investigation to unravel the mystery behind Sylvester’s death. Dowen college: Edward Brown's mum denies his involvement in the attack on Sylvester Oromoni Ms Oluchi Sunday, mother of Dowen college student, Edward Brown, has denied his involvement in the alleged attack on Sylvester Oromoni. Sylvester, 11, died on Tuesday, November 30, after he was allegedly attacked by some of his seniors in the school. Since his death made news, names of some students he reportedly called before he passed have been shared online. Edward's mum, Ms Oluchi Sunday, has released a statement denying her son's involvement in the unfortunate incident. Read her statement below... ''It has come to my attention that some individuals caused rumours to be peddled on social media platforms suggesting that my son Edward Brown is one of the students allegedly involved in the beating of the late Sylvester Oromoni Jr at a Dowen College hostel, which resulted in his untimely death. To set the record straight, I wish to bring the following facts to the public notice, which demonstrate that such rumours are false, malicious and lack any basis whatsoever: 1. My son is a day student and has never been a boarder. 2. Because my son is a day student, he was not on the school premises at the time when the unfortunate incident occurred, precisely on the night of 21st November, 2021, during a weekend and so, could not have been in the hostel as alleged. 3. In a social media post made on 1st November 2021, on the deceased’s elder brother’s Instagram page, “greatoromonii”, five names, including Dowen College were mentioned before the conclusion: “… just know he called your names before he died”. My son’s name was not among those names. As a result of these false and malicious rumours, my son and I have been under constant attack via social media, with insults and threats being hurled at us daily. This has caused us much emotional distress and mental trauma. Therefore, on behalf of myself and my son, Edward Brown, I hereby demand that managers of social media and other platforms where the false and libellous rumours are circulating, immediately retract the offending posts and tender a public apology to us." A Ghanaian police officer, General Lance Corporal Victor Antwi Yeboah has been granted bail after being arraigned in court following a viral video of him s*xually harassing a lady in a vehicle. The incident occurred on Friday, November, 26, 2021, when Yeboah and two other colleagues were assigned on night patrol duties. At about 3:00am, the police officers were said to have extended their tour to Fiapre roundabout near the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR). Upon reaching the roundabout, they saw an unregistered Toyoto Corolla parked few metres away from the roundabout along the road leading to Berlin-Top with the parking lights on. They reportedly moved towards the car to find out if there were occupants in it and what they were doing. The team claimed they saw a man having s*xual intercourse with a female in the front passenger seat. In an attempt to arrest them, L CpL Yeboah held the victim and searched where the victim was sitting, but did not find anything. Yeboah then reportedly started touching the thighs of the victim and tried fingering her while saying “you are naked, you are naked” amidst resistance from her. The harassment continued for a while and the victim together with the boyfriend were eventually arrested for the offences of gross indecency and sent to the Sunyani Municipal Police Station where they reported the matter for further investigation. The victim and the boyfriend were cautioned and admitted to enquiry bail. However at about 2:00pm on the same day, the regional police command saw a viral video of Lance CpL Yeboah indecently assaulting the victim and subsequently set the necessary investigations into the matter, leading to his arrest. During interrogation, the police officer admitted to touching the thighs of the victim, but explained that he did not do it with any bad intention. He was granted bail in the sum of GH¢ 10,000 with one surety, after being arraigned in court on charges of assault and indecent assault.
