@yuriolympics2023 prompt 2: Contradiction.
The "contradiction" is in how Mizuha calls Hanna dull, and how Hanna worries that her normalcy will rub off on Mizuha, but they both want to continue their relationship anyways.

@yuriolympics2023 @femblemfemslash || 2k || fe8: eirika x l'arachel, tana x syrene, marisa x tethys
“How does life in Rausten suit you, my fair lady?” L'Arachel wiggles in her saddle, too excited to keep up the pretense of proper posture. “Have the people of my nation been good to you? Have you any poetic observations on the magnificence of our coastline? Has the seaside air done wonders for your melancholia?”
Eirika hides a small smile behind her hand. “I've only been here a day, L'Arachel,” she points out, with all the grace her station demands. “We haven't even had the wedding yet.”
“And the waiting is simply unbearable,” L'Arachel exclaims, dropping her reins in order to strike a dramatic pose. “I keep demanding Uncle Mansel officiate the ceremony posthaste, but he insists on allowing the guests several days to arrive – pah! If divine providence does not drive the wheels of their carriages and the sails of their ships to arrive by midnight, then they are simply not destined to bear witness to our holy matrimony! I cannot survive another day of this solitude without you at my side, Eirika. Please wed me swiftly, or I fear I shall perish of heartbreak!”

Round 2: Contradiction
* * *
It was all-too-easy to repel the angel from his vessel.
The things were too trusting for their own good, the most gullible creatures their God had ever created. All Asmephi had to do was lure him into the sigil and bam, she was left with a vulnerable human soul ripe for the picking, standing in the middle of the apartment she’d been occupying.
Sure, she could have gone with any other human, but this was more fun. Knowing that Yahiel was up there fuming at her was the cherry on top of her pretty new prize.
The human stood as rigid as a statue, her eyes so distant she almost looked dead.
“Hey.” Asmephi snapped her fingers in front of the human’s face, only earning a delayed blink in return. “You still in there?”
“I’m gone?” the human questioned. Her voice came out soft, quiet, everything the angel wasn’t.
Asmephi looped her arm through the human’s, leading her to the couch and sitting her down. “The angel’s gone,” she corrected. “What’s your name, dollface?”
The human thought about it for a moment, her face scrunching up in confusion.
“...Yahiel,” she eventually decided on.
It occurred to Asmephi that this had probably done a number on something as fragile as a human mind. Angels were far more intense creatures than demons, so much so that one couldn’t even walk the mortal plane without a vessel to hide their true form.
Carrying all that energy for what must have been a decade, having her whole being commandeered in favor of an angel’s… it was a wonder there was anything left of her at all.
“Yahiel’s the angel.” Asmephi plopped herself down next to her, tail swishing excitedly. “What’s your name?”
The human made no attempt to move away. There was no disgust, no fear. Not even the greed that accompanied those who sought her out. It was uncanny, and it made her all the more interested, though it was likely that the human simply didn’t understand what was going on.
“The- the vessel?” the human asked.
Asmephi patted her on the back. “Yep. That’s you.”
The human nodded slowly, trying to process the question a second time. “Hannah,” she ended up with. “It’s over? I’m not coming back for her?”
Ah. That’s where the fear had been hiding.
“He really messed your noggin up, huh?” Asmephi lightly tapped Hannah on the side of the head. “Nah, he’s not coming back for you. I’ve got you now.”
Hannah seemed to really see her for the first time. Asmephi gave her time to think, patience being one of her few virtues. As she did, her eyes grew wary. Again, not the terror Asmephi had expected at the news that she now laid in the clutches of a demon.
“Will it hurt?” she asked.
Hannah was utterly pitiful. Asmephi was used to cornering terrified prey and intimidating them into contracts, or profiting off the greed of those who couldn’t understand what they were getting into. This was just sad.
It tugged at something in her heart that she hadn’t known was there.
“I’d say you’d have to be more specific, but I’m not planning on hurting you.” Asmephi ran her hand through Hannah’s hair, claws gliding harmlessly over her scalp, hoping to emphasize her point. “If I were to possess you, it wouldn’t be like the angel.”
Hannah seemed to like that, either the claim or Asmephi’s claws in her hair or both. She began to relax, just a little bit. “What would it be like?”
Asmephi found that in the same way she liked seeing other humans tremble with terror, she liked seeing this one calm down from her default locked-up state, relaxing under her hands.
“Warm,” she purred. “You wouldn’t struggle to contain me like you would an angel, it wouldn’t burn like fire. I would slot in right beside you, gently guiding you along. You could rest.”
“That sounds nice,” Hannah whispered.
Oh, she would be so easy to manipulate, just as trusting as the angel who had been occupying her. Asmephi hadn’t even needed to, but if her presence would be as destructive as an angel’s, she would have had a new vessel in her hands anyway.
She tucked a strand of hair behind Hannah’s ear. “But I’m not looking for a vessel. I want something else from you.”
“Oh?” Hannah tensed right back up.
It was wrong. Why did the human’s fear make Asmephi feel bad? She loved fear, her favorite human emotion by far.
With this one, it was just too easy. Yahiel had left her in ruins, and keeping her afraid felt like… the status quo. Heaven-sanctioned. It was disgusting.
“It’s alright, just your soul. It won’t hurt,” Asmephi reminded her. “And in exchange, I can do something for you, too. Do you have something your heart desires?” She cupped Hannah’s cheek. “Something you’ve been wanting all those years you’ve been locked away?”
For once, Hannah did not hesitate. “Protect her from me. From all angels.”
Asmephi liked this one more and more by the minute.
“Oh, I would be absolutely delighted to.” She grinned. “We have a deal, then?”
Hannah anxiously bit the inside of her cheek, just under Asmephi’s fingers. “What are you going to do with her soul? My. My soul.”
It would have been easy for her to lie. Hannah wouldn’t have questioned it, she was sure. The human was too mixed-up, too desperate. But for some reason she couldn’t explain, the truth fell from her mouth.
“I hand most over downstairs. It would hurt, then. But I wouldn’t do that with yours.” She mulled it over. “I would put yours in a necklace when you die. You would make a wonderfully beautiful piece of jewelry, I think.”
“And it wouldn’t hurt?” Hannah asked again, so fragile that Asmephi couldn’t resist trying to keep her from breaking.
“It wouldn’t hurt.” Asmephi gently took her hand, placing it over her own chest. “You would rest right here, where I could keep you safe. But you couldn’t go to Heaven.”
Hannah shuddered. “I don’t want to go to heaven.”
She pressed her fingertips against Asmephi’s chest, silent for a long moment.
“Deal.”
A kiss on the lips to seal the pact was traditional. Hannah was as beautiful as she was oddly charming, but though Asmephi couldn’t deny wanting to kiss her, it didn’t feel quite right. Hannah was too broken down, too far away from herself.
Perhaps there would be a proper kiss in their future, once Hannah was well again, if she willed it. But for now, Asmephi took Hannah’s face in her hands, and placed a kiss softly to her forehead.
“There. You are now under my protection,” she announced. “You are mine, and I take good care of my things. No one will hurt you ever again.”
It was a free upgrade, from ‘protection from angels’ to ‘protection from all’. Asmephi wasn’t usually fond of upgrades, but she would make an exception here.
“Thank you.” Hannah finally, fully relaxed, a decade’s worth of tension leaving her body all at once.
Asmephi scooped her up in her arms, holding her new, precious soul close. Hannah looked to be in her late thirties, maybe, and she was going to live a long and healthy life under her protection. She still had a while to go before she would get her necklace.
“You just rest. I’ll take care of you,” she promised. And for once, she meant it.

"The loyal kitsune familiar of Her Excellency the Almighty Narukami Ogosho, God of Thunder, has come to enjoy a certain level of personal worship from humans over her five hundred years of service.
God is distant. God does not hear their prayers. Yae Miko, however, is always listening.
They who seek her blessing may receive it, if their flattery strikes the right chord, and the capricious winds of fate blow in their favor. If they catch her discerning eye, they may even receive more than just her words as reward."
