frankly speaking, haeri wasn’t sure how they ended up here. she and naeun had come to ‘bakeri’ for their weekly visit, and then somewhere along the way she ended up making a comment about how naeun, probably, couldn’t eat entire loaf of bread in one sitting. and now they sat, as naeun is finishing up her last bite. truly the child of haeri - always needing to prove someone wrong. as a parent, she is concerned and probably shouldn’t have dared her to do it in the first place. as herself, though, she is highly impressed, proud, and slightly afraid.“right?! yein, could you t-” she coughs, stopping herself. definitely not, haeri. “actually never mind.”

haeri blinks - once, twice, thrice. looking between jiwon and the gash on her leg, she shrugs. “high pain tolerance?” she offers with a smile, though it is awkward. she’s blatantly lying, her pain tolerance is next to none. she’s a thirty year old woman who still tears up when she gets pricked by a needle, and jiwon knows that. she knows he knows that, but it’s too late to give up the act now.“it really isn’t that bad,” but it is. “okay, it wasn’t that bad before! but then i.. well, i ended up bashing it against a ladder, and now we’re here. it’s fine though, can you just.. put a bandaid on it or something?”

spring cleaning - haeri hates ( almost ) nothing more. she keeps everything, every individual object holding a piece of history in her eyes. but alas, over time space in the attic was simply running out and some things had to go. so she reached out to jiwoo for help, hoping the younger girl would help coerce her to depart with things. glancing to jiwoo, she spots it : a, now, rather old and rusted tricycle. it belonged to her when she was a child, but once she grew older and got roped into becoming a makeshift babysitter for the younger kids, she’d let them play with it.“oh gosh, neither have i…” she laughs, setting some photo albums aside. “you can take it, if you want… though i suppose you don’t really play with things like that anymore, huh?”

suddenly, she is twenty again and freshly back in yangwon. expecting, parentless, and with a world of responsibilities that she didn’t ask for; that she was trying to run from. jiae is like looking into a mirror - and haeri doesn’t like it, but she’s not important right now. “that’s not true…” setting her itinerary aside, haeri moves to sit next jiae. seeing her like this makes her sad. she loosely remembers meeting jiae when they were young, and she was always a good person. much better than haeri, at least. “you can go back to college and study something you like. or open a store! you’re creative, and that music box you gave naeun is lovely. people would definitely buy them, i know i would!” she smiles, wrapping her arms around jiae and squeezing lightly. “your life isn’t going to end just because you’re having a baby, jiae, i promise. i mean,” she pauses, a gentle laugh escaping her. “it’s going to be hard, of course, but you have people around you to help. everything is going to be fine. you will be fine. don’t think anything otherwise, okay?”

she can only glance between jisun and the object in her hand. if she knew, she wouldn’t be at her house this late - haeri doesn’t like showing up uninvited, but today was a special case. “to be honest…I don’t know,” she holds it up to the light, squinting as she stares at it. it seems like a normal rock in haeri’s eyes, but jisun’s reaction implies something different. “a…. traveler visited the inn, early this morning. said it was a gift and took off before i could ask anything about it…” haeri pauses, eyes widening. as if it burned her, she shoves the object into jisun’s hands and backs away. “why? is it bad? should we not be holding it? oh my god, is it cursed? i knew it was cursed!”

haeri … doesn’t cook often. no, she normally comes up every excuse in the book to stay as far away from the kitchen as possible. it’s only when naeun expresses interest in culinary herself that haeri decides to try it. ( after all, it would severely hurt her pride if her nine year old knew how to cook before she did. ) and who does she call whenever she tries something new? hyerin. sweet, sweet hyerin. haeri adores her for several reasons - like, she is the sister haeri never had. they support each other no matter what, and she is by far the easiest target to get roped into her latest schemes. it’s no surprise when she reaches out to hyerin, extending the brief invitation of “come to my house at six and come hungry.”
at 5:48, haeri is hard at work. the recipe is much harder than she anticipated, she was missing several things. how much exactly is two tablespoons? hell if she knows. she’s attempting to cut chicken when -
“Wow, you’re terrifying.” swinging around, one hand resting over her heart, the other holding a meat cleaver as if it were a weapon. “you scared me! dear god, don’t you know better than to sneak up on a woman wielding a cleaver?!” she pauses, the other’s word sinking in. “i’m terrifying? you’re terrifying! we have phones you know, a heads up before your arrival would have been nice! — wait, how did you get in my house?”

tdlr ; sorry for not responding , i’m trash. welcome to the new members. also, starter call.

i’ve been feeling real icky lately which basically makes me useless, in all departments, but especially writing. i have been trying to respond to the ask memes and write an open starter but as you can see - there is nothing to show for it ! so, i’m going to get all the asks done but they won’t be as long as i originally intended. sorry.

anyway, onto my sweetest little lady, song haeri - your friendly local inn owner who’s just a *jenna marbles vc* thirty year old laaady that loves bread and her daughter, and is a teeny bit bitter about where her life ended up.

~general background ~
the song family has lived in yangwon for generations now. they’ve seen it all, from the construction of the town to now
and yangwon’s inn has been in her family for just as long almost
needless to say, haeri and her sibling were expected to continue the tradition
however in a truly cliche fashion, haeri wanted to get out of town and become a part of something bigger than her stupid town’s inn, so as soon as she could she booked it to baeksu tech to study business administration - the ultimate goal to later move on to another university in seoul and become a ceo or something of the like
tw: death, pregnancy -- in the beginning of her second year, haeri got pregnant after a one night stand ( college was wild, don’t ask her about it. ). then, a few months later, her parents died due to a drunk driver while they were visiting her in the city
needless to say that was a pretty shitty time for her. do not mention it or her parents if u wnna live
now with a degree, child on the way, and a feeling of “holy shit i owe this to my parents because it’s mY FAULT they died (even tho it wasn’t)” haeri gave up her dreams and moved back to yangwon to take over the inn

so she’s been back for a long time now and everyday she grows increasingly more cynical

has a nine year old daughter called naeun, or as you might hear haeri call her, “dAMMIT KID”
she’s haeri’s entire world, basically. if naeun doesn’t like you, haeri probably won’t either
favorite thing is bread. any kind of bread. just. bread
( she is biased towards sweet rolls though. )
tries not to swear but fails horribly
