hello! this was my first zexal month, and it was a lot of fun!! i got waaaaay overwhelmed this month and couldn't finish all the prompts i wanted to, but mayhaps i will revisit some ideas sometime. the ones i got to do were really fun! and i have put way too much thought into that crossover prompt to not do something with that later <3

What didn’t you like? Any shout-outs you want to give?

I really love Astral World and its final version (fused with Barian World) is the best. Ominous and mysterious with all that Chaos and still the same placid space. I always wondered why those worlds only have night? How are their inhabitants able to speak human languages? Is it because they were human themselves at some point? Are those world really the equivalent of "heaven" and "hell"? So many questions to think about hahaha

this year was fun!

I got to indulge myself in a newfound love for a ship I did not play around with before so that was very refreshing! I managed to draw quite a bit for it (but it's funny considering this IS a Zexal blog so I'm always posting Zexal things all year long lmao). I love how the community comes together to participate and half-way there we lose steam and not many people post much anymore.. it's a tiny community here on Tumblr after all! So here I am, always hoping for new folks to drop by and stick around, and maybe for older folks to come back (o´ω`o)ﾉ

This was my first zexal month and I'm super glad I got to participate! I'm still not done, I have the last prompts I wanna do (and maybe even some bonus ones!) but I'm currently away from home and it's much too chaotic to focus on Zexal Month 😅 so expect more from me in September!

I really enjoyed this month's theme and also the change to explore some of my aus! My favourite art has to be the Villain Astral AU art I did! And it was super awesome to see everyone else's submissions too!

Anyway, this was awesome and I'm still not done with it hehehe and I'm very glad I got the chance to join in!

day 31 - the deck

zexal month is officially over!! although i only did the first week of this wonderful month, it was an absolute treat to see everyone’s creativity minds and AUs and theories! it was very fun and i enjoyed everything about it!

i wanted to thank the mods for making this happen. you all went out of your way to make this august a very special month and i cannot thank you all enough for spending time in your, i’m sure, very busy lives to put this all together! thank you zexal months mods with all my heart ♡

Zexal Month: The Deck

And, at last, this Zexal Month has come to an end. It felt like an instant, maybe because I was way more involved than the previous year, and yet I feel utterly satisfied of the work I've put into it. There's still a couple prompts I'd like to work on: I'll try to submit them by the end of the year!

This was also my first year as a month and, I gotta say, it was great! I have to thank mods Pyra (@pyrachan) and Iris (@scattered-irises) for their guidance and laughs. It was great to work with you guys, you made me feel at home. ❤️

I want to thank everyone for joining! As Pyra already said, I'm glad to see the fandom is still alive and well and I'm not joking when I say every entry was a surprise. Keep it up that way!

Special shotout to @ruikamo and @iersei, whose art is delightful, really a pleasure to watch! Also, special mention to my pal @devilchiara who made a whole post based on a shitpost of mine! You're a peach.

All in all, it was an incredible experience! Can't wait to see what next year will bring us and let's all keep the kattobingu in our hearts!

Day 31: Thank you!

All my plans fell apart in a wave of dread and tears…I will be doing posts for Zexal Month in December, probably. Don’t feel ashamed in turning in things late! You can make it Zexal Month whenever you want!

I wish I could have done more but uni started up mid August and I have a 22-credit semester (I am a bastard orphan child unloved by the institution (out-of-state transfer))…It was truly wonderful seeing everyone’s posts! I will be reblogging them on @tronnyboyo when my schedule from hell allows me!

Zexal Month: The World, Upright

It's a well-known fact, Zexal is no stranger to beautiful landscapes: think of the Astral World and its architecture, the Barian World, Heartland with its whimsy colors and the beautiful seaside.

But Yuma's attic holds a special place in my heart.

The room itself is pretty quaint, it's all the artifacts that makes it special. And, honestly, I'd like to sleep every night in a place like that. Also, Yuma sleeps in a hammock. How cute is that? It fits his energetic, reckless character.

There's also a layer of sadness in this: Yuma misses his parents, and he sleeps in the attic, where all of their findings are stored, presumably because he wants to feel their presence even though, by the start of the story, they're gone and won't ever return...

It's so bittersweet how Yuma made it his safe place, a place of memories of all his loved ones. A place of the Past, if you will. And still, it can also breathe Present and Future: Yuma lives in it, bonds with some characters, rearranges his deck for the battles to come...

28th- Death upright | Endings, change, transformation, transition How’s the future for Zexal characters? Show us what you think a Zexal character (or several) are doing post-series or how they look when they grow up?

I believe most of them are still living in Heartland (but still travel elsewhere etc) and I thought of some cool careers and things they could be doing:

Yuma - pro duelist this was a given considering it was his dream, only fair to make it come true when he's grown up

Astral - warrior/protector, interdimensional researcher his role in Astral-Barian World remains the same. After the worlds were forcibly fused together, there need to be someone to keep all that Chaos in check so that the Astralians don't disappear. He also helps with pooling interdimensional knowledge since he, himself, is not human and lives in somewhere other than Earth

Kotori - kindergarten teacher I think she would make a good teacher and her likeable and caring personality would be popular among little kids and their moms

Ryoga - marine biologist and/or interdimensional researcher Shark was never extremely passionate about dueling and I believe all that drama throughout the series would definitely drive him away from dueling professionally again, I do see him as a scientist though. As Astral, he has experience first hand with being non-human (formerly)

Kaito - engineer, interdimensional researcher already things he was from the start of the series, so no massive changes except for his age and being more experienced (eventually taking over his father's laboratory)

Rio - pro duelist, model, actor, athlete she showed how much she is capable of so it's only natural that she would hone those skills and have an active life doing several different things. She preferred modeling for environmental causes, acting in stage/theater and competing in winter sports

Tetsuo - pro skater, model, maybe also pro duelist I think it would be so much fun if Tetsuo started skating professionally and I can totally see him rocking urban/alternative apparel and making a lot of money/fame as a model

Tokunosuke - "entrepreneur" he's still swindling people, just a little bit smarter about it

Cathy - pet groomer of course she will work with animals, what did you think?

Takashi - paralegal don't see him as a lawyer but I do see him working in justice. That was pretty much a given, considering his personality

Anna - pro duelist and stunt performer it would be freaking hilarious to see her as a stuntperson so, why not?

Haruto - interdimensional research assistent by choice, Haruto doesn't get involved directly in his family's research, so he takes on a organizational and administrative role more

III - historian, researcher, writer I like to think that III had a very important role in the ongoing discovery of all interdimensional things due to his profound knowledge of the past and how it influences today. He never sought fame but it comes to him anyway with all his published papers

IV - pro duelist, model all that interdimensional stuff? He's not interested in the slightest. IV duels his way to the top of the top and, as usual, he's very smug about it. He can be, he's that good

Durbe - professor (perhaps a specialist in linguistics) I can't see Durbe as anything else than an academic, he just has that vibe going on for him

Vector - ??? who even know about Vector. He's rich, somehow. He comes and goes as he pleases and when people ask he says something like "don't worry about it ;-)"

Alito - bartender, dancer I'd love to see Alito excelling in all kinds of dances, receiving accolades because of just how skilled he is, and working in the local nightlife seems like it would suit him

Gilag - bodybuilder, strongman yeah, that's about it. He's got the muscles for it, he should use them

Mizael - interdimensional researcher it was surprisingly tricky to figure him out? And I feel like he takes on a more mixed role, not too hands-on and not too detached either. He's mainly helping the Tenjos with in-field research

most of the other characters I didn't mention here are most likely following the same path as the show.. Fuya is still an actor; Faker, Byron/Tron and V are scientists and interdimensional researchers; Droite is a manager and Gauche is a pro duelist/wrestler

in most my headcanons, everyone was resurrected by the Numeron Code including Don Thousand. I'm unsure of his role but he would stand together with Eliphas in Astral-Barian World, their roles as the most powerful beings (akin to gods) would be to maintain the harmony. Ena would be more of a messenger and mediator. As Vector, Number 96 would be mysterious, but he mostly stays in that world, challenging Astral to duels here and then

“I judge you innocent,” proclaims E’Rah, judge of the underworld and sister of Lord Thousand.

“Awaken, dreamer.”

Your head spins. The sound of the rain pounding on the dome crescendos. The jurors applaud alongside E’Rah, a mocking grin on her face. It’s too much. Far too much. You screw your eyes shut.

When you open them, you find yourself in the abandoned castle’s study. The tapestry has been eaten away by moths. The book is tattered and dotted with mold. Cobwebs line the once pristine study. A beam of sunlight creeps in through the windows.

Distantly, you hear the sounds of your crew calling your name. Their pounding footsteps resound against the stone steps of the tower.

You lay back down on the cold floor, gazing at the flowers growing through the ceiling.

That was enough of an adventure.

Zexal Month 2023's coming up! From August 1st to the 31st, we’ll be celebrating our 7th Zexal Month! We're doing a Tarot theme!

All our prompts are based on the 23 Major Arcana! You can follow the written prompts or just draw something based on the actual arcana for the day!

For those who are with us for the first time, we have prompts with some suggestions attached to them. You can focus on characters, concepts or OCs, as long as it’s somehow Zexal related and we'll reblog it if it's tagged with #zexal month 2023. In addition to the daily prompts, we have a list of alternate prompts at the end of the list! We hope you have fun with it.

Week 1: Welcome to the Kingdom

1st: The Fool upright | Beginnings, innocence, spontaneity, a free spirit The king calls you all to introduce yourselves. Hello, fools! Who are you and how did you get into Zexal? 2nd: The Magician upright | Manifestation, resourcefulness, power, inspired action Duel monsters are the manifestation of the soul, so show us your favourite duel monster or card! Alternatively, show us your favourite Numbers Card! 3rd: The High Priestess upright | Intuition, sacred knowledge, the subconscious mind Music can do miraculous things to the subconscious mind. You can make something based on the soundtrack or themes/motifs you like. As a challenge, put on one of the Zexal soundtracks and try to make something before the song ends! Show it to us! 4th: The Empress upright | Femininity, beauty, nature, nurturing, abundance The empress summons you to talk about someone you truly care for. What makes your favourite character your favourite? If you have an OC, feel free to talk about them! Also, we love women, so if you want, show some female characters appreciation!

Week 2: Secrets of the Royal Court

7th- The Emperor upright | Authority, establishment, structure, a father figure All hail the barian emperors! Show us a piece about our favourite alien warlords and/or Don Thousand. You can also show us a non-barian Character as a Barian or something else Barian-related. Alternatively, an upright emperor also represents a father figure. Kazama? Faker? Tron? An OC or self-insert? Show us daddy issues something inspired by them! 8th- The Hierophant reversed | Personal beliefs, freedom, challenging the status quo The reversed hierophant means freedom and non-uniformity, so it’s dress up day! Put a Zexal character (or OC) in a new set of clothes they would/wouldn’t wear! Historically accurate clothes for Barians’ past lives? Mini skirt IV? Droite in her wrestler attire? Astral in a tutu? Just show us fashion!  9th- The Lovers upright | Love, harmony, relationships, values alignment, choices Time to spread the love! OTPs? OT3s? BROTPs? Character x Reader? Character x OC? The lovers card is all about ‘belonging’. What relationships do these characters have?    Draw us your ships, friendships or your favourite group of characters (Number’s Club, Sanyuushi, Arclights etc.) enjoying each others’ company. You can also show us the families of your favourite characters and create relatives for them if you prefer.  10th- The Chariot reversed | Self-discipline, opposition, lack of direction Sure, we have a “plot” but Zexal has lots of filler episodes and fun, zany detours! Show what sort of sports or hobbies the characters would get involved with in their spare time. 11th- Justice upright | Justice, fairness, truth, cause and effect, law Time to put a Zexal character on trial! What crimes are they charged for? What is the verdict? What is the punishment?  Feel free to get silly with this (Phoenix Wright, anyone?) or be as grim/morbid as you like. Will Vector finally pay for his transgressions? Up to you!

Week 3: Into the Woods

14th- The Hermit upright | Soul-searching, introspection, being alone, inner guidance As you are banished into the woods for your hot takes, you’re able to reflect on a long-forgotten friend. Make something based on your favourite obscure or minor character. Give those one-shot duelists some love! 15th- The Wheel of Fortune upright | Good luck, life cycles, destiny, a turning point Let’s just put your favorite characters on a game show. Can you imagine a Family Feud with Arclights vs Tenjos? Does anyone get lucky?  What sort of entertainment (outside of card games) do you think you’d see in Heartland City? 16th- Strength upright | Strength, courage, persuasion, influence, compassion Fight! Fight! Fight! In a contest of pure strength, who would win? Who do you NOT want to face in hand-to-hand combat. Who would you duel? If you want to keep yourself out of the fight, show two characters in a fight/duel! Bonus points if they haven’t canonically fought before.  17th- The Hanged Man upright | Pause, surrender, letting go, new perspectives A change of perspective! Is there any character you didn't like at the start, but ended up loving, or vice versa? Who is it and why?  Alternatively, what relationships do you wish we saw? What interactions did Zexal deprive us from? 18th- Temperance upright | Balance, moderation, patience, purpose Sometimes, your friends get on your nerves and you have to be patient with them. But it’s really hard when they’re mostly middle schoolers. How do you think characters would spend a Boys/Girls’ Night Out? What about a slumber party instead?

Week 4: Exile

21st- The Devil reversed | Releasing limiting beliefs, exploring dark thoughts, detachment Show us your villains or your favourite character(s) as a villain. Does their deck change as well? 22nd- The Tower upright | Sudden change, upheaval, chaos, revelation, awakening Show us your favourite punching bag hurting emotionally (whether from a death, tragedy, breakup or something else), in physical agony, or just having a good cry. Zexal is no stranger to angst, after all (we got how many death montages at the end of the series?).  If there are triggers or graphic themes/visuals, remember to tag them! 23rd- The Moon reversed | Release of fear, repressed emotion, inner confusion Some parts of Zexal were confusing and some plot points were forgotten. What do you wish you could have seen MORE of? Alternatively, is there something you didn’t like in Zexal? What and why? Show us what you would have preferred/thought was interesting! Explore a scenario that could have drastically altered Zexal. e.g. What if Kaito died of space cancer at the end of season 1? 24th- The Star upright | Hope, faith, purpose, renewal, spirituality Let’s change the tone of this week. Zexal is full of mythology and spirituality. Show us some of your favourite themes/lore in the show!   25th- The Sun upright | Positivity, fun, warmth, success, vitality The sun represents warm feelings as much as it represents treasure/wealth. Give your favourite character a cursed weapon or treasure. How do they react? What do they do with it? If you want a challenge, grab an image of Yuma’s room and pick a treasure/object. Draw it and/or give it a story. III definitely would love to hear you talk about it! 

Week 5: Court of the Dead

28th- Death upright | Endings, change, transformation, transition How’s the future for Zexal characters? Show us what you think a Zexal character (or several) are doing post-series or how they look when they grow up? 29th- Judgement upright | Judgement, rebirth, inner calling, absolution Zexal ended a long time ago but it’s time to give it a bit of new life. How would a Zexal character look/act in the world of the fandom you're into now (or vice versa)? 30th- The World upright | Completion, integration, accomplishment, travel Scenery appreciation! (Tell us what’s your favorite location in Zexal).
