my father died in world gen and i carried up his banner
an AAAAA game can't just be "game we put a lot of money into", that's not enough to kick it into the next bracket. the development needs to be on the level of medieval cathedrals: spanning multiple generations and involving hundreds of accidental deaths
I am slowly losing my mind over the shift towards video as the default media format.
I do not find this to be an efficient way to absorb information. I am bored and distracted by the time the largely unnecessary introduction is over. I can't use ctrl+f to find the specific information I'm looking for. If there are instructions to follow, I don't want to have to constantly pause and back up to the part I need.
what's so striking to me about younger queer generations rn isn't the lack of knowledge about queer history, but the complete unwillingness to engage with it, when confronted with an identity or history they haven't heard of before they react with disgust rather than curiosity. (for example) instead of asking where the leather pride flag came from and what the leather community is and represents they immediately question the need for something like that to exist, not even willing to listen and learn from both elders and peers. this is also more broadly a problem in leftist spaces in general, being reactionary is somehow the default now, and anything that's different or unknown must be an attack and bad. really hoping y'all manage to grow out of this deeply conservative way of interacting with the world.
every special ed program i was in had some kind of system where your behavior was graded on a little sheet with different scores in different categories. its one of those things that i was shocked to eventually discover was actually specifically a special ed thing. getting a good grade in behavior.
God I hope the future is kinder. I hope that they have it figured out better. I hope people don't have to work so much for so little. I hope there's time to explore passions and interests and skills. I hope people get the support they need. I hope the people from the future look back at our problems and are bewildered by them, like I'm confused by how they used to put poisonous lead in make-up, just... "how did they ever think that was okay? How did they live like that?" I hope the cruelties and hidden poisons of our world are one day so distant that they're used as fun facts in trivia games. Please be kinder, future
hey everyone! sorry to have been inert for a while, but life has been a fucking mess. i spent most of this winter sick with various minor illnesses, and then portland got hit hard by that polar storm - days of 10F temperatures, ice-covered snow on every exposed surface for a week, gale-force winds, power outages across most of town. we lost power for a full day and change and a lot of shit froze etc.
needless to say the whole thing has been a fucking nightmare. i'm lucky to say that the place i live in was essentially undamaged so i don't have to pay for a motel for a month or something, but emergency rates have our gas and power bills through the roof and i was honestly struggling a bit to begin with.
i'm trying to raise about $700 to climb out of the hole that a 200% hike in gas price and corresponding hikes on water and electric are gonna leave me in; any extra will go towards getting groceries (which me and the gf are getting real low on) and possibly buying myself a second pair of winter-appropriate pants. any help is extremely appreciated, including just rebloggin' and wishin' me well <3

“KOSA wont pass, it got rejected the last two times!”
It wasn’t passed because people spoke out against it. People called and emailed their senators. So, CALL / EMAIL YOUR SENATORS. MAKE IT KNOWN THAT WE DO NOT WANT THIS BILL TO PASS!
“But its unconstitutional-“ There’ve been multiple bills passed before that are unconstitutional. This will not be any different to them, they do not care.
It was defeated last year, but of course, Christian theocrats are once again trying to get it passed. There's a new hearing on January 31, 2024. If you can stomach it, PLEASE call your senators and ask them to oppose KOSA, on LGBTQ grounds if you live in a blue state, and about the burden on small businesses if you live in a red state.
This would represent the most sweeping censorship bill in American History since World War 2. It's passing would be catastrophic.
If you live in the US, please call your senators (on the phone, this part is very important) to oppose the kids online safety act (kosa) which will allow attorneys general to sue any website that allows content defined (in their opinion) as "harmful to minors." It is the most sweeping censorship bill proposed since world war 2.
If you live in a red state, tell Republican senators that it would be a huge burden on small business (it would!) And if they're Democrats tell them the heritage foundation wants to use it to ban queer content.
It would fundamentally change what you're allowed to say, read, and who you're allowed to even BE online.
Please use a phone to oppose it, emails sometimes get responses but they don't have nearly the same impact as talking with their staff on the phone.
I really think everyone needs to truly internalize this:
Fictional characters are objects.
They are not people. You cannot "objectify" them, because they have no personhood to be deprived of. They have no humanity to be erased. You cannot "disrespect" them, because they are not real.
