My Cowybow!Nai/Milly fic. Part cowboy romance part twin swap AU. Its a finished love story but it eludes to a longer adventure plot I might not get to. I still love it to bits!

This one is an arknights fic, but I love it to bits! its an OC doctor with lots of speculative lore that didn't age well with new cannon stuff but persists in my heart. The Doctor is a cyborg and trapped in a reincarnation cycle with amiya as the right hand of the king fiends. Preistess is here <3 I think this is one of my tightest plots.

Hold Me Like a Grudge is a modern soulmate urban fantasy ot3- No! stay with me! I wrote as a fun stab at making tropes I wasn't usually into work for me! its got magic! its got Fairy land! it's got ex crust punk social worker Vash. Its got farie knight Wolfwood who dresses like a tech bro and carries around an evil sword that turns into a guitar. Just. give it a shot! It started as a series of oneshots for ship weeks and is so close to being finished!

And last but not least in my heart the fic that I'm still mad is a fic and I can never file the vin numbers off, my personal house of leaves, my monstrocity horror comedy, my angsty meme riddled magnus opus; Becoming Eden [It's Me I'm trees] It doesn't have an adequate summary on ao3 for it but let me try. In episode 3 of tristamp Millions Knives touches Vash's gun and hits him with a plant vibration that drastically alters his biological body and activates his 4th dimensional plant functions like a dependent. Vash starts reverse photosynthesizing which creates energy and water- and can also as a neat bonus act as a fusion reactor for hydrocarbons! He drinks vanilla extract (a hydrocarbon) and it goes very badly for him~ and then even more stuff happens. It's a great big speculative plant lore fic base on tri98, I wrote it as tristamp was airing because tristamp reminded me so much of the fic I wrote in my head years ago after first watching trigun98 and going....well that didn't make any sense I wanna put that guy in a bulb tho, see what happens? Its one part prose poetry and ascii art and one part medical procedural and one part dissociation emulator. There are 2 sequals, {Kaleidoscope image} is still updating. Please enjoy.

I think what is missing to Vash fan characterization most of the time is the horror of what he is and the fear that goes with it.

Like how, with vashwood, everyone makes Wolfwood to be immediately so accepting of him and worship him or whatever but he does not! He's afraid of Vash. A fear which sticks to his very bones for a good bit of the story.

And it's not unfounded. Vash is a nuclear bomb in flesh. We've seen what kind of damages he could do, be it either with Knives or Vash's own, unwilling, use of the angel arm.

Who, Vash included, wouldn't be afraid when faced with that reality.

I want y'all to think about the horror of aging too fast then not at all. The horror of your body becoming so unstable it's unrecognizable, wild and out of your control. Of being afraid of hurting anyone and having the raw power to level entire cities if you don't keep yourself in check perfectly. The horror of no one, not even yourself, understanding what you are.

The alienation of it all.

Trigun “altered my brain chemistry” as the saying goes, but there are so so many great animation shows that i die to talk about - but can’t find energy for putting the enthusiasm into words :(

heads up I think Hold Me Like a Grudge is my next Project, its picked me up and shaken me like a rag doll tonight. I have an outline, I have written the ending to write towards, there is concept art. it is: A. Urban Fantasy with Fae AU A2. third person past tense B. Mashwood Soulmates (I do not like soulmate AUs so this is a poly deconstruction) C. Is going to go pretty hard emotionally rated T for now D. Probably be about 10-20K, I want to say its gonna be 12k but I know better than that. (this is not nano! I am weak and never do Nano, I do however tend to write a cool down novela after a BIG project) E. Tangentially a trigun fic at best :/ the blorbos from my shows are mutating as I write, and I'm just going to be okay with that. I am an eccentric genfic writer and I do what I do and sometimes. F. the title is a fall out boy song, yeah, the album dropped during Vashwood week when I wrote the first chapter.

These stories are brilliant.

I’d like to write my thoughts but I can’t collect them in anything cohesive: I want to praise the language (beautiful, but always clear), the way characters think (oh the brackets and cursives I love you!), behave and interact, how no two pairings act the same, how even ray of sunshine such as Milly plays off of Meryl in a different way than of Vash (Oh, and how there’s so much Milly ❤︎ ) - and how most of that feels so organic I can almost see the things described in the stories drawn by mr. Nightow’s hands.

However all of the above sounds too abstract, I guess so I suggest to have a look at this poem from Featherheavy (a part of Psychic blast trilogy. The first link in the og post).

I think it perfectly incopsilates the points about characterization (look, there’s whole of Vash his pain and suicidal tendencies his hope and his desperation self loathing and love and his ever smiling mask, his dearest ghosts and his stampede nature - in such a comparatively short text!) and language (this is a matter of taste, of course, but I find this middle ground between short snappy sentences and streams of consciousness, sparingly used figurative imagery (geranium red apple flavored grief? oh.) and intense formatting extremely appealing).

it's been a while since I've compiled all my fics into one list, and what better time than trigun fic appreciation week!

Get psychically blasted, idiot! (M, 13.9k, 3 works): the premise is simple: Vash loses control and blasts his companions (psychically). polygun-centric (platonic/queerplatonic). each work is from different POV and is standalone, although they follow a chronological order. truly my favourite child, I had SO much fun with poetry/ASCII/funky formatting!!!

If We Live (M, 18.8k, 4/7chapters): a canon-divergent Wolfwood lives au and my penultimate fix-it. I really wanted a close-to-manga story where wolfwood gets to live through and affect the later volumes' plot... so I wrote it! the divergence happens in vol 10 of trimax :]

trigun body horror week 2024 (E, 7.6k, 6/7 works): written for the titular event, tread wisely and mind the tags! every work is in different POV and mostly gen except for the merylmilly-centric pair of fics (my favs in this series)

Not About the Couch (M, 3k): a post-canon exploration of Vash's grief as he finds the strength to tell the girls what really happened to Wolfwood. very bittersweet

Small Red Boy (T, 0.9k): on the possibility of healing Wolfwood's inner child

applecore (M, 0.6k): post-trimax Vash is so normal about eating an apple, he buries it. this one is filled with rage and grief

Independent (M, 2.7k): vol7 reimagining where Vash gives in to destroy both himself and Knives. it goes as well as it sounds. please mind the tags

You say this is the love we all hope to find (M, 1.6k): Legato receives a special gift from Knivesr and he's expectedly abnormal about it

blew yer tits clean off (T, 3.6k): Vash and Wolfwood share anectodes about their unconventional experience with transition on No Man's Land. alas, it's traumatic!

Molten Outlaw (T, 4.8k): polygun fluff time! Vash's chronic pain is flaring up. thankfully, he's got people willing to take good care of him

Heavy Weight (T, 7.3k, 2 chapters): aroace vashwood cuddles! two guys loose focus and form a queerplatonic relationship. this is my first ever fic so it might feel a bit ooc compared to more recent work

God i can’t. I’m in the midst of some daily stuff. And then I just THINK of Trigun and there are literally those stupid butterflies everyone talks about and I can’t stop smiling but at the same time my heart aches, again, literally. I just love this story and everything about it so so much it’s scary.

chapter 38 of Trigun Maximum is truly amazing. One of my favourites.

We see Vash visiting a church. Such a serene panel with him standing in the aisle, making us think he could have found some of the calm he searches for. Then we get hit with this page

Not really surprising, no, but Vashs expressions just hits you.

Going forward we have this funny little moment with Wolfwood just trying to enjoy his noodles for once and you can see the gears turning in his head: „Do I HAVE to do something? Naaaah, Spikey´s good“

and then ofc he runs to his aid anyways.

We finally see what Vashs inhuman abilities can do aside from bursting out and destroying everything at once:

If used in tiny amounts it is actually such a cool and damn helpful thing, catching bullets faster than you can dodge. But ofc Vash hates this and he doesn’t have it under control, fearing that the angelarm is breaking out any moment now.

Which leads us to the most impactful thing of this chapter:

Meryl loosing it as she sees Vashs feathers appear:

Such a perfect display of PTSD and absolutely understandable as well. She was the closest to him as he went „beastmode“, she literally had to jump out under his wing and fire her gun while a swirling mass of energy was building up right above her head.

I want to believe that her reaction surprised herself as well because we have seen her in the beginning of this chapter, asking where Vash was and actively seeking him out. She didn’t take the time to actually sit down and comprehend what happened or attempted talk to him or Milly about this. She bottled this event up and now the horror releases.

And then ofc we have this sequence of people bashing Vash, really well shown with their looming shioulettes while he just sits there and takes the blame.

And fuck it all, they are throwing rocks at him like kindergarten-kids because they are scared and don’t know better but damn it hurts. And he just accepts it all and leaves the place he is not wanted at without an angry word or look at these people.

And we get this famous panel of Vash were he admits that he doesn’t know what face to make anymore.

It happened so often to him that he adopted smiling as a default reaction. He doesn’t even realized he is doing it anymore and that it isn’t the „proper“ reaction if people behave like that towards you.

The chapter ends with the heartbreaking scene of Vash reaching out to comfort the girls and Meryl shying away from him.

He is so sad, but at the same time he is not surprised. How often had he something like that happen already?

He puts on his default smile and rushed out of the city with Wolfwood.

What a beautiful, sad chapter. There is a lot to unpack.

Dune x Trigun

Is it just me or are there zero (0) crossover fanfics?

And like, probably that’s reasonable as the two desert worlds overlap too much while the narratives do too little. However! If we look beyond the first two novels and delve into the God Emperor with sprinkles of Children the opportunities are infinite:

First of all: plant are derived from sand worms, so the two concepts overlap and mix together.

Vash and Knives are Ghanima and Leto II but with a sprinkle of Alia and Paul and also a twist: Knives DO merge with Vash during one of their confrontations

The rest of their fights / talks are in their mindscape

in his godhood Knives/Vash is not omnipotent, but has immense plant powers, the memories of ancestors get replaced with minds of Zazie (aka plants/worms) and Vash

let me eleborate: KNIVES AS LETO II A GIANT WORM GOD RULER OF THE UNIVERSE but there’s is still Vash in him slowly regaining control like a reverse of baron Vladimir changing Alia.

In trigun turms it’s Noah ark: Knivse’s body has shifted and Vash is under his control (for a time being)

Nicholas is Duncan. Ghola Duncan? Probably (here I can’t but think of Lenipes’ two Wolfwood aka Padre and his clone). Not sure if he should suffer from being a murder, from not being human, being a man out of time or all of the above altogether. God. They fall into each other perfectly!

Milly as knives’s bride Hwi (a perfect understanding person, sunshine incarnate but probably minus her disturbing birth and upbringing? Or at least toned down). She’d kinda be the one to wake Vash (sorry, Meryl, my love! It should be your role, but…)

Meryl is Siona. The Answer to all the questions. The woman so strong willed that she’ll never ever stop chasing the God.

Eye of Michael is Bene Gesserit. (What does it imply? The order is no longer only women? Or Trans Wolfwood and Livio? Dunno)

Roberto is Hvi’s dad whose name I don’t remember but who jumped out of the tower in the most impressive way.

Elindira is Moneo (does this make her Meryl’s parent? I guess? Just for the lol factor)

Legato is just there, I guess. Representing those who believe in the God.

Have you been honest, I love this idea. Am I going to write that? Not really. Maybe just eleborate on the plot? Maybe not even that. But I needed to get that out of my system.

PS - oh. I just realized I got my Knives/Milly into twins/Milly which is weird. But also there is Wolfwood/Meryl and of course Vashwood but Knives is there too (in Dune Leto is OBSESSED with Duncan. Revives the man times and times again even though he tries to kill him all the time)??? God that’s messy xD

Oh god. Oh no. I just came across an unedited part of Trigun Stampede episode. And it all came rushing back: how smooth every movement is, how nothing ever stays still in the background, how people and animals react to each other, how sound design and music breathe in soul into this work, already so full of life.
