aromantic dread is when you think someone is flirting with you and you just get the ick and you don't know how to turn them down

this year my challenge for everyone is to unlearn the association between love and morality. love is not something that is inherently morally good, and the absence of love is not something that is inherently bad. sex without love isn't morally bankrupt, it's just an action. people without love aren't less kind or less good, they're just people. when we can get past this false (and often unnoticed) dichotomy of good love/evil lovelessness then i think we are going to be able to take leaps and bounds in sex positivity, aro advocacy, certain discussions of mental health...

It feels impossible sometimes to talk about your experiences as an asexual person without getting lumped in with purity culture because it’s somehow simultaneously true that society hates sex and puts sex everywhere so both people who want to express their sexuality and people who don’t want to participate in it end up having knee-jerk reactions to each other because we’ve all built up defense mechanisms ready to trigger at a moments notice so you try to talk about how sex and romance is everywhere and inescapable and you don’t wanna be involved with it and then people blame you for the kink at pride discourse when you weren’t even thinking about that

i’ve decided deep sea anglerfish are aro culture because:
1. “anglerfish” starts with an “a”
2. i’m aro and i like them
3. there’s “plenty of fish in the sea” but you know which ones you’re probably NOT gonna catch? deep sea anglerfish. (go on. try it. catch a deep sea anglerfish. i dare you.)
anyways i rest my case.

Someone please make sense of this for me.
When alloromantics are like “cmon please just give me a chance” when you reject them but “why would you agree to a date if you didn’t have feelings for me” if you begrudgingly say yes.
Like, no, you have to pick one. Do you want to date people who don’t want to date you, or are you offended at the idea of this happening? Because you can’t coerce someone into saying yes and then get upset when they don’t actually want to date you.
Even worse when it’s not even the original asker shaming the person for turning the other down on the grounds of “just give them a chance” - how about you go reassure your friend that someone out there will want them and it doesn’t have to be me? Why am I the bad guy for just saying no? Would you treat someone the same way if your friend wanted to have sex with them and they said no? Or do you suddenly now see how disturbing this is?

I often do think it is important to call myself a woman. In past I've had kids ask me "are you a man or a girl" and in hindsight I think these kids were quite perceptive of the world. Especially when you're in your 20s it's men and girls, I've seen students write pieces describing themselves as men, but their female peers of the same age they call girls, but I have also heard bisexual women say they like both men and girls. In past I've fallen into that myself and said that yeah I'm a lesbian I like girls, but do I? No I am in my twenties and I am actually only attracted to my fellow adults - women. It does feel more serious, less trivial, both to be and be attracted to women as opposed to girls, and that can be a bit uncomfortable to be faced with. It is also important to me as a butch. I am no longer a tomboy I am a butch I am no longer a girl I am a woman. I am a woman and women can be like me. I don't feel like I've succeeded enough at adulting to call myself a woman, but that doesn't matter. I am 25, and if the word bears other connotations so be it, that's not my problem.

I find it quite strange how often people let a label decide for them how much love or importance they can give to something or someone. It demonstrates how often we see things as inherently hierarchical and how attaching labels to these hierarchies stops us from focusing on the thing behind the label, preventing us from exploring our own true feelings and, in the worst case, causing an endless cycle of discourse about labels. In this essay I will talk about how Pluto is still a fascinating and beautiful celestial object, and how people who argue that it should be a planet again are demonstrating their belief that the reclassification automatically implies that Pluto must be loved less, when in fact Pluto itself has not changed and you are free to love Pluto as a dwarf planet just as much as you would love Pluto as a planet planet.

The duality of "If you even imply that being aro or ace condemns someone to a sad and lonely life I will fucking fight you"
and
"being aro and ace is the most isolating thing I will ever experience"
