This is just observation but I think that in reflection to what blond hair represents in (western) society at large, the people who are adamant that Dean has blond hair are so because a Blond Dean is a Dean with a touch of innocence and purity.

Also this is a stretch but everyone knows the whole Dean is a woman or whatever thing??? I think that we view blondness often as a feminine or “soft trait” so a Blond Dean is then one who exhibits more “soft traits” or “feminine aspects”. Obviously I don’t think everyone thinks this way but blondness is not just hair color, it is meant to represent what type of person the subject is, non-threatening, pure…

think about Mary in her role of the long-dead mother and her blond hair. Blonde Mary helps push along this idea of a nurturing, warm mom. Later we see that Mary is much more but her hair is a representation of our expectations of her (see my “If I die young” edit/collage). Hell! What about Jess and her long blond hair and white dress (mommy issues alert 4 sure). If Dean is blond, it can reflect these ideals placed on Mary, offsetting what is true about him, and I mean this in the nicest way, but he is canonically impure and is in fact pretty threatening, regardless of his base nature or not.

I think a similar impact can be seen with Meg and Ruby 1.0s, who were both blonde and considered good guys. Whereas their brunette 2.0 appearances represent their darker natures. It’s not your (universal you) fault that you associate light features with goodness and dark ones with badness (?). It’s white supremacy and propaganda.
