Look at this weird oak tree growing in the swamp:
It grows like a pop ash tree! But it is a laurel oak! Why does it have 7-10 trunks?

Yes! This plant is called Caesar's weed, scientific name Urena lobata.
It's an invasive species, and it's in the mallow/hibiscus family.
It's also the little bugger responsible for the spikeball-shaped seeds that get stuck to your hair/clothes/pets/etc.
It can grow up to seven feet tall :')
On the bright side, it is very distinctive and very easy to hand pull or dig up. So if you've only got a little, it's something that's easy to tackle by yourself, and if you have a lot growing in a setting like a neighborhood park, it's one of the invasive plant species that is most well suited to volunteer groups.
Stabbed Chemically treated some Caesar weed today 🥰

This is actually a really interesting type of water retention that long grass does that I've never thought about before!
You can see how much slower the snow on the long grass is melting, which creates a slower percolation of water into the ground!
It's amazing what a difference vegetation can make for communities that struggle with drought conditions!

I heard people think swampwater is dirty??? So here is some ankle deep water in a floodplain swamp. The water's so clear the camera can barely see it.
