hi! Share five fun facts about your favorite oc maybe?
hi! thanks for the ask, sorry it took me... a short while to get to it.
my favourite (i guess, if i was forced to pick one) oc at the moment is called galatea.
shows little to no emotion, ever, out of what she believes to be necessity after a lifetime of people falling in love with her at first sight and being incapable of taking no for an answer, leading to several wars, kidnappings, almost forced marriages and many fallen dynasties.
draws inspiration from several areas: helen of troy, galatea from myth, sirens and vampires, i guess. is sort of an exploration into the ways being born fully adult and then expected to act like it would fuck a person up.
is very sparkly. her blood is gold, her few scars glow gold, her tears are unnaturally glittery, and her hair has streaks of literal silver.
a foodie, eventually, once she starts finding joy in the world once again. also a pretty good cook, but she prefers decorating.
very creative. on the one hand that could be put down to her role as the spirit of sculptures (and all the messiness that entails) but on the other hand her talents extend far beyond sculpting. immortality has to be good for something, i guess.

in the o'sullivan family, there are two variations of magic: magic that is inherent, i.e. you are born able to use it, and magic that can be done without a family history of witchcraft and wizardry, e.g. rituals and potion making.
there are many different types of magic: blood magic, elemental magic, eldritch magic, mind magic etc. you aren't exactly bound by any one type, although certain things will come easier than others depending on the person, but someone coming from a family with a history of being adept at, say, healing magic will be more likely to excel at that.
if someone is using magic more powerful than they can handle, or if someone is using too much magic, they'll start to bleed. it can be from their eyes, their ears, their nose, they can start coughing up blood, any cuts will start spontaneously bleeding and so on. it isn't universal what the first one is. if they continue on, then they'll start to bleed from more places.
Let's talk magic! For those of us with magic systems in their stories, what does that look like? What about magic in a vague sense - the sense of monsters or ghouls or ghosts? How about magic that a modern setting would consider to be good luck or superstition?

definitely based off carina's fear of heights.
We're going to be a bit mean to our characters with this moodboard; let's have one that's based entirely around one of your main characters worst fears!

in tsenpha, there are 5 (well, 6, but one of them is dead) major gods. who represent two sort of opposite aspects, alongside many... using real world mythology, like greek mythology, they'd be considered minor gods, but in tsenpha they're referred to as spirits.
of the 5 (6) gods, there's the deer god of death and life, the fox spirit of change and stagnation, the shark god of war and peace, the dove god of love and hate, the raven god of wisdom and ignorance, and the dead octopus god of creation and destruction.
spirit wise, there's really too many to list but a few of them are august, spirit of the sun, roxy, spirit of gemstones, attor, spirit of decay, eva, spirit of emotions, galatea, spirit of sculptures, and astra, spirit of stars.
Let's discuss the gods and goddesses of our fantasy world! If you're story is set in modern day, what religious influences are there?

she tests it on her tongue.
elisabeth o'sullivan. betty o'sullivan. elisabeth "betty" o'sullivan.
and somehow, despite elisabeth "betty" carter being the only name she's ever gone by, o'sullivan feels right in a way carter suddenly doesn't.
it's the same feeling she gets walking into the foyer of the o'sullivan house, staring at the staircase in front of her and at the many figures that step out to greet her, with grief and hope trailing in her wake; it's the same feeling she gets when carina beats her at chess, when percy nudges book recomendations her way, when moira links their arms together and walks with her through the gardens, when aoife mentions another recipe, when colleen sits and talks about cases and magic and family.
(colleen asks her whether it was the place or the people that made her town home and betty realises that home hasn't been the same in months.)
Today, we're bringing you a CHALLENGE!
How fun is that?
We're going to ask that you go write five sentences in your story. Then, reblog this post and share those five sentences!

it's sort of a blue and gold inspired aesthetic, but mostly inspired by another o'sullivan character, betty.
today, we’re going to take a breath of fresh air and make a color combo inspired moodboard. You’re going to use the colors blue and gold to inspire the moodboard you make!

an aesthetic for the main o'sullivan house. doesn't come to close to the actual vibe of the place, but maybe you can get a feel for it anyway? idk.
We’re going to kick things off with a moodboard, to get back into the flavor of our own wips, as they presently are. Let’s make a moodboard for a location in our story!

what are some cool places in... tsenpha?
there's the beach of fallen stars, which gets its name from the fact it's not really a sand or pebble beach. the things that make up the beach are shaped like stars. would i go there? probably not because i'm not really a beach person.
the faerie realm, neráleio, is also pretty neat, because it doesn't really have a day and night cycle. day, for them, is comparable to dusk, whilst the night is night. they also have two moons, which is pretty fun - old folk tales go that one of them used to be their sun.
Let’s spend some more time on the location, actually. What are some cool places that are visited in your story? What makes them so special? Would you go there, if you could?

5. What are the overall aesthetics of your current WIP?
thanks for the ask
forests illuminated by sunlight, by firelight, by moonlight. glowing figures walking amongst mortals. rain hitting leaves. overgrown gardens of wildflowers and roses. the distant sound of a wolf's howl. the sound of twigs breaking. blood on snow. the creak of a ship. the splintering of ice. dice hitting the table. the sound of laughter and drinking. singers and dancers performing. a fleeting glimpse of a glowing blue deer. a three eyed raven there and gone again. a golden dove shining in the sunlight. the cackle of a fox wearing bangles and earrings. the steady gaze of a blood coloured shark. the feeling of being held by someone long gone.

uhhh... hmmm.
tsenpha has a lot of incredibly devoted characters tbh (in different ways, sure, but the fact remains), but let's talk about alastor and corianne.
these two are incredibly devoted... to each other, to the point where they separately decided to toss all morals out the window when it comes to each other. alastor becomes this great villain half because of his own worldview, but mostly because of the world treated corianne. corianne, on the other hand, came back wrong and alastor was the only one not to act like that was a failing on her part, so she decides to set her brilliant yet twisted mind on supporting him in everything. is their relationship romantic or just incredibly devoted? little of column a, little of column b.
i'll throw astrophel in because technically he's relevant here, being from the same place as alastor and corianne, also being incredibly devoted, and also turning into the villain (specifically a dictator who is later imprisoned in a pocket dimension accessible only through mirrors and reflections) because of his love for two people - it gets reduced to being about the romantic love he has for darya a lot but it was also about the platonic love he had for floros, so.
Alright guys, we’re going to talk about aesthetics, in a character sense. We’re going to talk about aesthetics, in a this is really heavy sort of sense. We’re going to talk about the parts of our characters that are the most devoted, the most willing to sacrifice, the most willing to kill – it doesn’t have to be for the good of the cause. It can be for a single person, it can be for a single place, a single concept.
Let’s just talk about the most devotional in our stories, the ones that fit all those aesthetic quotes that are floating around, the ones that you want to just chew on a little bit because it makes you feel so much.
What are they doing that makes you feel this way? What’s at their core? What’s their moment, their flavor of insane devotion? Let’s hear it!

funny because one of the characters is a singer who writes songs based off her family members.
anyway a song written about colleen would probably have folk music elements to it. maybe it would focus on colleen's... reputation and looks and generally how she's viewed as being, if not evil, a force for darkness, but interspersed with the writer's own experiences with colleen.
Campfire songs let’s sing along! There’s no summer complete without a bit of fire. So our question is this… what would a song written about one of your ocs look like?

Number 5 for the Writeblr Summerfest: What are the overall aesthetics of your current WIP?
thanks for the ask
being lost in the forest at dusk, at twilight, at midnight. strange old houses with stranger rooms. storms. candlelight. the feeling of being watched. blood stained tissues and ripped up jeans. monster of the week, of the month, of the year. family dinners with strange conversations. long road trips. silence. old photographs. the click of a camera. the sensation of being watched by something beyond your sight. the feeling that you are changing, that you can't go back to who you were, that this was always meant to happen.

Summer loving! Let’s have another look at the wardrobes of our characters! Let’s see what they would wear on beach day, beach day, beach day!
This can be a moodboard, it can be art, or writing, or rambling, or a single picture that you scrabbled out of the depths of Pinterest – anything goes, everything goes, it’s beach day!

What was the last small lie they told? What was the last big one? Does your main character lie a lot?
the last small lie that natasa told was that moira's cooking looked good, which was a boldfaced lie. the last big one she told was about how she spent her weekend with her partner. natasa doesn't tend to outright lie, preferring half truths or omissions to complete fabrications, however in certain situations (such as with moira's cooking) she will lie completely.
What is their biggest fear? Is it a phobia, or a fear of a certain situation?
carina's biggest fear, or phobia, is that of heights.
Who is their least favourite person and why? Is it someone that they pretend to like?
aisling's least favourite person (one of them, anyway) is caspian, because he dated aisling's sister and aisling is just like that when it comes to the people his sisters date. he does not pretend to like him, and caspian is very aware that aisling dislikes him, but they deal with being in the same place as each other well enough - they mock each other a lot.
Let’s play a game. We’re going to be super mean to our characters today, alright? The first bit of meanness is this… Some eye opening character questions?

The center of a corn field, where an old farmhouse sits or an abandoned looking hotel, with no water in the pool.
they'd probably pick one of these, depending on who's in the group.
branwen, carina and natasa, for example, would go for the old farmhouse. sure there might be someone or something lurking within said farmhouse or out in the corn, but they're pretty capable of looking after themselves. and, anyway, when all else fails, fire is an option.
faye, demona and aisling would probably go for the hotel, because there's probably someway of communicating with other people in there. that, or at least a phone signal. if they did start getting stalked by something then... demona has a pact with a demon, faye is a faerie and aisling is a changeling. if nothing else they're good at distracting until they can take care of whatever it is.
Theme challenge!
Your characters have found themselves broken down on the side of the road. They have the option of going to get help at…
The center of a corn field, where an old farmhouse sits.
An abandoned looking hotel, with no water in the pool.
A small cottage that seems out of place from the rest of the buildings.
The remnants of a mobile home park.
Where do they choose, and what happens?

it's monochrome in spirit, if not literally, at least. also inspired by sybella.
Moodboard madness!
Let's do something interesting today.
We're making monochrome moodboards! How cool is that?
