Thematic debate on the role and authority of the General Assembly.
The Ad Hoc Working Group (AHWG) has made recommendations on macro-level issues, such as the coordination between the principal organs of the United Nations, and the relationship between the agenda of the General Assembly and the Sustainable Development Goals. Part of the work of the AHWG is also to look at the working methods of the Assembly, the rules of procedure and practical matters, such as the use of technology, the accessibility of proceedings to persons with disabilities, or the clustering of agenda items.

The UNECE Resource Management Week 2024, including the 15th session of the Expert Group on Resource Management (EGRM-15), will be held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, 22-26 April 2024. The event is in-person only. 
Leaders, experts, and stakeholders in resource management will gather to discuss sustainable development challenges and opportunities. The Week's theme, "Assuring sustainability in resource management", will focus on the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) and the United Nations Resource Management System (UNRMS) and their pivotal role in resource management worldwide. Agenda highlights include:
Seminars, Workshops, and Short Courses: Focusing on UNFC and UNRMS as catalysts for transforming raw materials management.
Minerals for the Energy Transition: Highlighting the work of the UN Working Group on Transforming Extractive Industries for Sustainable Development.
Responsible Resource Management: The development and deployment of UNRMS.
Building Capacity: International Centres of Excellence on Sustainable Resource Management.
Navigating the Future: Exploring various applications of UNFC.
Empowering Sustainability: Discussing global initiatives and case studies.
The meeting will be held in-person only with simultaneous interpretation in English, French and Russian. Registration is mandatory for all participants.

Informal meeting of the General Assembly plenary on the intergovernmental negotiations on the question of equitable representation on and increase in the membership of the Security Council and other matters related to the Council.
At its sixty-second session, the General Assembly decided to commence intergovernmental negotiations in informal plenary of the Assembly during its sixty-third session, based on proposals by Member States, in good faith, with mutual respect and in an open, inclusive and transparent manner, on the question of equitable representation on and increase in the membership of the Security Council and other matters related to the Council, seeking a solution that could garner the widest possible political acceptance by Member States (decision 62/557).
After intergovernmental negotiations, the General Assembly has taken a decision at each session

(11th plenary meeting) Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations, 2024 regular session, Economic and Social Council.
The 2024 regular session of the Committee on NGOs will take place from 22 to 31 January at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The Committee will meet again on 9 February 2024 to adopt its report of the session.
Item 3b: New Applications -Responses received
The 2024 regular session is expected to consider 214 new applications for status by NGOs as well as 294 applications deferred from earlier sessions. The Committee will also review new quadrennial reports of 755 NGOs in general or special consultative status, as well as 115 quadrennial reports from organizations, deferred from earlier sessions. The session's recommendations will be sent to the Economic and Social Council for its approval during the meetings of the management segment of the Council to be held from 5 to 6 June 2024.

Plenary Session and Closing - Advancing key transitions and cooperation towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the UNECE region.
Sustainable development brings the promise of a better future, but to build this future, we need to imagine it, to remove obstacles that undermine the necessary cooperation to make it possible, and to harness all the levers that contribute to progress. And we need to ensure that all the actors are involved in a meaningful way. The future does not only belong to us. The commitment to safeguard the interest of future generations is a key component of sustainable development. 
A panel discussion will bring together diverse stakeholders, including the private sector, financial institutions, science and academia, local authorities, youth representatives and other civil society actors. Panellists will share with member States their perspectives on SDG acceleration with particular focus on the main issues to be addressed by the Summit of the Future.
