You would think, working and living in a carnival, and having parents who are natural performers, that stage fright would be the farthest thing from my mind. But the fact of the matter is, getting on stage still terrifies me. I have a habit of hiding under the bed just before a show, especially during an opening night. I feel safe there, hidden away under the mattress, beneath the sheets and quilts, as though I am in my own perfect world for a moment. I can calm myself, convince myself that it is just a show. I have been practicing for it, and I am good at it, yetthe voices of the crowd still make me nervous.

My Moms and my Dad are all amazing performers, leading the cabaret with grace and poise. I am not the most graceful of beings; I never inherited my mom Bron’s skill for acrobatics, my dad Muna’s flair for the dramatic, or my mama Fye’s feats of strength. I was somewhat frail compared to them - ‘ethereal’ as Mom put it. Dad suggested I train under Seraphimo, who taught me skills with blades and other daring acts involving sleight of hand or quick wit. Seraphimo trained me alongside his daughter, Valentine. I learned to swallow swords and fire, while Valentine juggled dangerous objects.
