I'm really excited because some of my fav anime series are your favorite as well....if you don't mind me asking, why are your top 5 favorite haikyuu characters are kageyama, hinata, tsukishima, ushijima and kita (your reasons)? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....

Hello! Sorry for my late reply! 

I have a long answer for why I like Kageyama and Hinata (equally) here!

For Tsukishima, his is one of my favorite character arcs in the series. I just feel like the emotional investment (for me) that comes with where he started vs where he ends up is so strong! I love cold characters who start to open up to the others around them, especially when they are really fond of their friends but don’t like to show it. Tsukishima has this with both volleyball and the rest of Karasuno, and I just find it so endearing! Also, that moment where he really falls in love with volleyball... gives me some of the biggest goosebumps in the series. It’s both the journey and the incredible way that scene is written, everything leading up to it - the storytelling and the character exploration combine to make him a standout for me!

For Ushijima, I basically am just a sucker for big blunt sincere characters who mean no harm but rub people the wrong way because they cannot properly express what they mean. His gap moe is too strong T^T reading all the ads in magazines and brutally telling people why they suck because he doesn’t realize you Shouldn’t Actually Say That, Wakatoshi... it makes my heart hurt XD I just love him

For Kita, that one really came out of left field, but I loved his character design and then HIS CHAPTER and what he has to say about being diligent and hardworking resonated with me so much!!! I really like how he is so serious but still looks out for the others and is really proud of them in his own way. Also after seeing him be so grounded and no nonsense and sort of emotionless, him bursting into tears when he is named captain and showing that he REALLY does feel deeply about the things he dedicates himself to and how rewarding it is when his efforts pay off despite him maybe not being a superstar or volleyball genius, pretty much ended me. Because I think it’s very relatable to want to be recognized and good at something, even if you aren’t the best at it. Love him <3

Hi, Esselley...if you don't mind me asking what is your top 10 fav anime? And why? Sorry if you've answered this question before.

Oooh you know... I'm not sure I've been asked this, or if I have it's been a very long time since I answered!!! This is also very very hard for me as anime has impacted my life/creativity in such major ways 😭 makes it super hard to narrow down!! I've done my best... In very loose reverse order:

10) Boku no Hero Academia: BNHA was never meant to overwhelm my life as much as it has, but with its amazing cast of characters and Hori’s storytelling, it really ended up taking over @_@ My Deku will forever be in my heart T^T

9) Baccano: Baccano is one of my favorite series ever for a) its fantastic non-linear storytelling and b) being about immortal supernatural gangsters with a strong Roaring 20s vibe. Def a series I’d recommend the dub for due to the period New York accents!

8) Black Lagoon: Revy was not really so much a gay awakening for me as a gay reaffirmation; weirdly this show also has one of the major het ships I’ve ever been super invested in as well (rude bad girl x soft good boy dynamics are my weakness). This show is unrelentingly rude and violent, and I love every second. (Also another show with a highly recommended dub)

7) Shokugeki no Soma: as someone who really really loves sex + food stuff, I was bound to fall in love with this show, but then the fantastic characters and batshit insane plot developments REALLY grabbed me by the throat!!! Yukihira is one of my best boys ;~; he’s So Good <3 (Plus everyone in this show is so unnecessarily hot??? it is a paradise)

6) Spirited Away: this is just the biggest comfort anime/movie of all time for me, and I will love it forever (also daikon spirit is my favorite <3)

5) Gensoumaden Saiyuki: I first watched the original Saiyuki at a very formative time in my life and was immediately consumed by reading fic for it 24/7...I loved the character dynamics (so much banter) and good ship potential!!! Also loved THIS BOY right here:

4) Barakamon: if ever there was a show that made me cry more from laughter, heartfelt emotions, nostalgia... I haven’t found it! Barakamon is a perfect show to me, and I recommend it to everyone. Nothing will put a smile on your face faster.

3) Run with the Wind: TRUE STORY: the night before the last episode of RWTW aired i laid in bed crying because I was so sad it was about to be over. BUT EVEN DESPITE THAT I’m still so glad I got to experience this beautiful journey of friendship and love and CHASING YOUR DREAMS! <3

2) Cowboy Bebop: I watched this show when I was really young and it completely defined my love of an extremely specific genre, namely, Outlaws-in-Space. To this day, I really think Cowboy Bebop has had one of the biggest influences on my interests and my writing (stylistically and thematically). I still love amoral but goodhearted ensemble casts just trying to scrape by (in space). Also, cannot be overstated how much I love the music of this series. This show and its OST truly became a “new genre.”

1) HAIKYUU!!: Haikyuu changed my life, so it gets this spot by default. But beyond that... I mean, I don’t think I need to explain, but it really has been a story that I feel privileged to have been able to watch unfold. I have loved seeing Furudate’s treatment and handling of character development and relationships, and just the entire spirit of what it means to truly love something for the joy of it. It’s something I hope I can carry with me forever ^^

I have to do honorable mentions: Peacemaker Kurogane, Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens, FMA: Brotherhood, Wolf's Rain, Ouran High School Host Club, SK8 (yes its already on the list), Sword Art Online, Ergo Proxy, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, Inuyasha... honestly NOT TO BE A WEEB (i’m a weeb) but I just love anime and this list could go on forever. There are elements that are so quintessential to the medium that you don’t find anywhere else, and somehow my brain just craves those little things. 

I am also very affected by music and soundtracks, so my favorite anime OSTs skew my favorites list. Anything scored by Yoko Kanno (Bebop, Wolf's Rain, Darker than Black), Hiroyuki Sawano (Kill la Kill, Promare, Aldnoah Zero), and Yuki Hayashi (Haikyuu, BNHA, RWTW) usually feel high up on the list just because I have so much love for the music.
