I think Cinder in the F1 au has the constant issue of being unable to accept things are going at all well for her when she starts helping Ruby. She constantly gets in her own way and self sabotages them by relying on old habits. She’s investing in strategies during races which she could pull off way back when but are either outdated now or Ruby can’t complete. As well as she’s incapable of taking care of herself before races because of nerves and anxieties connected with her crash and the thought of her potentially causing Ruby to end up like her so she turns to the bottle frequently. Only when one of Ruby or Winter finally uproot her from whatever place she’s drinking in does she really stop, she’s in deep need of a support system especially stumbling around with her cane and shit eyesight.

as much as i like cinder's grimm arm design-wise and conceptually, there's just. it's gotta go. spinning it into a majorly positive thing is nigh impossible, the negatives are just so overwhelming especially when cinder's desire for freedom is taken into account (which it obviously should lol)

cinder can't protect it with her own aura, yet she still feels the pain from it. she's weak to silver eyes, which she normally wouldn't be. it keeps spreading, destroying her body as it goes. salem can use it to torture her; they directly parallel this with the shock collar cinder was forced to wear at the glass unicorn.

cinder wants to be free, but the arm is a tool of control. cinder wants to be strong and powerful, but the arm gives her a weakness she can't eliminate without getting rid of it—something that isn't an easy task, as if it's just cut off, it regrows.

if the goal is for cinder to be truly free—to fix the mistakes of the past, to fix the broken heart the grimm beetle 'branded' on her back—, the grimm arm has to go.

I was told to thank you directly for your amazing chapter in Strict Machine. Let me tell you most people describe proficiency as a vauge concept, often attaching the same worn adjectives and comparisons over and over and over. The fact that you illustrated the philosophy behind the modeling, provided an example, broke downs its mechanics and results though and though was honestly some of the most enjoyable stuff I've ever read. By providing so much context you were able to truly set a goal and then provide the reference frame of someone that could accomplish something as abstract as creating art - through the lens of modeling no less. I literily do not think I've ever seen that be accomplished so successfully before. A truly natural lens that then ruby can look through to accomplish the same stated goal. And then you wrote how she made it her own! I can't tell you how much i enjoyed this. I hope you, bam and strict machine all countine to be excellent. I just wanted to say thanks. It truly taught me alot.

Thank you so much for your high praise! The scene was very fun to write and I was glad to put my modeling experience (aka. my photography student friends haven't started on their projects and it's due tomorrow so there is no time to feel awkward) to good use. The blue champagne and Madonna playing in the background certainly helped as well XD

I love getting introspective in pretty much everything I write so I just had to get that in there as well. Also showing that Cinder absolutely knows what she is talking about and that she's been around when it comes to her chosen field (like the board meerting scene in Devil Wears Prada where Miranda subtly flexes on everybody just why she is in charge). I'm just glad everything ended up fitting in so neatly, especially with Bam's edits and added bits.

No because at Mountain Glenn Ruby's single-minded desire to be a hero was shown to be a virtue. It was WBY that were all struggling to figure out what being a huntress meant and how they would fulfill it, and Yang looked up to Ruby and her complete faith in who she wanted to be.

But now we see what that kind of single-mindedness can wrought. WBY may not have known who they were but they knew who they didn't want to be. They had realistic foundations that aided them in their development, and they had others around them that supported their specific needs. But Ruby didn't.

What Ruby had was the unattainable standard that she had idolized her entire life, and when she kept failing to live up to that standard she would blame herself and shut out others. And now she feels stuck in this role that she thought was meant for her with no end in sight.

It's why she's so tempted by the offer to leave Ruby Rose behind. WBY are proud of the people they have become, but Ruby Rose isn't. She doesn't know what a huntress is without the ideals that she's believed in her whole life, and those ideals have trapped her im a box that she wants out of.

Ruby Rose is a huntress forever dated to fight and struggle and lose what she loves, so why not get rid of Ruby Rose?
