its kinda funny, i deleted the first addition i made to this bc i felt like ok, im overreacting, just ignore that one annoying rando on twitter and move on
but now over night multiple other people got upset at my tweet and i found myself asking, is my point that hard to understand? was my mistake calling it 'false advertising' in that tweet? or was it bc i didnt add a big JUST MY OPINION - or NOT A DEBATE INVITATION sign to it? something tells me that even doing that wouldnt have made a difference- do people on twitter take every single post someone makes as a "change my mind" debate invitation as default?
like this isnt some harmful political misinformation in need of correction, its a video game, and my opinion is a pretty consequenceless one at that, just ignore it if you dont like it, nothings gonna change about the game no matter what i say anyway
correct me if im wrong but im PRETTY sure that for something to be a proper sequel it needs more than literally just reusing the same world and character models and slightly altering their design or adding an ability (that they got somwhere in between which isnt shown nor elaborated on either while previous abilities or interests/knowledge vanish)
made the mistake of saying that really totk isnt a sequel bc it doesnt build on, nor expand nor elaborate nor continue anything from botw, its the same preset of basic things like ... world and character models and tells an entirely different story utterly disconnected from anything botw, which it not only acts like it never happened (aside from like one dialog which is not enough for me when everyone else has literally forgotten everything and tbh feels more like a reference thats actually a slap and laugh in your face) but often times actively contradicts it, like a different version of the same thing
which is called an alternative universe
half of the reasons why i despise totk is bc i wanted, expected and was TOLD its a sequel when it isnt, can you really blame me for being disappointed and frustrated when i was told its a sequel, which should build on established stuff, to a game and its lore i deeply cared about and then get an alternative universe game that has nothing to do with the one i cared about except wear its face and STILL get told its a sequel even just by simply reusing models

(totk rewritten/botw 2 wip)
yes i am making 'new' arrow types that you craft with material in bulk (essentially like the new types in totk but crafting them instead of having to fuse it for each single one- to be specific, ZELDA crafts them for you bc i think its great to give her more stuff to do, the same will work with weapons and repairing weapons but that i will lock behind quests as i mentioned before, maybe you will select the stuff and then keep playing while she does a lil animation and then throws it back to you when in combat, otherwise you can make multiple at once so it doesnt take too much time- or you approach her and open an extra menu for crafting/repairing)
what are the best effects i should include? :3

They really showed us this in the first TotK trailer and really expected us to believe that Ganondorf was just going to be a one-dimensional Evil McEvil 😔

you can probably guess what people on twitter had to say about that totk ganondorf edit despite it being a simple edit that has no influence on nintendo lol (i had added some comments in later reblogs bc ... at least here i can complain about it)
*Puts on twitter glasses simulator*
-He’s supposed to be green because his dark magic makes his skin green
-Evil Gerudo just have green skin and good Gerudo have brown skin
-It’s just a game stop trying to make things politically correct
-Why are you being racist it’s racist to make his skin brown when he’s evil
-His eyes are not supposed to be that color
*Takes off glasses simulator*
So, I didn’t add the vitriol but how did I do 💅

sorry i keep coming back to totk rants, but something that utterly baffles me from a game design perspective especially is
who, in their right mind, would think to put similar objectives with the same characters in the EXACT same place as its previous game when already reusing the same exact map (no, single rocks springkled around isnt a meaningful change, fight me)
like from a purely logical point of view its just ... not logical?? and TWICE so when most players will have played the previous game, so now that the exploration, which was the main driving point of it, isnt as satisfying simply bc you know most locations and what is what, the thing you need to do is subvert it as in you go to that location and theres something else now or something that leads to a new reveal, but not NOTHING either, bc you likely cared about what youd find- the satori mountain was such a cool mysterious place, so now you head to it to see what is now and its nothing but maybe an obvious treasure chest? thats both lazy (i realy use that since its way overused by people missusing it) and just ... it might be meant as a lil nod so that there isnt nothing at all but to me it feels even more condescending as if there were literally nothing instead
satori isnt here anymore? thats weird if its always been there, so you go find a cause, maybe theres a fissure somewhere you can enter a large cave system, an hidden entrance to the underground that reveals there is something corrupting the place somwhere nearby but not exactly in the same spot- make it into a bossfight at which end satori gets cleansed- maybe it got captured and taken somewhere else, to a place that was kinda neat but didint serve a big fucntion in botw like maybe it was dragged somwhere into the big tabantha canyon, or to the forgotten temple
you try to visit rito village but the snow and cold there got so bad that you cant even reach it without special gear, and when you do reach it its utterly frozen in thick ice and not a single soul is there, the perch of vah medoh is knocked over building a bridge as a subtle hint as to in what direction perhaps, its intriguing bc clearly they have to be SOMEWHERE, maybe they tried to use vah medoh to evacuate but bc its losing power and doesnt have a skilled pilot they crash land it into the mountains, now trapped there and due to the storm not able to send anyone out to get help, maybe some did but they didnt make it and you can find them on your way and rescue them, and bc of the storm being so bad no one can get out and no one can get in (except for our special boi linky ofc) and even after the storm has weakened they dont immediately go back and act like everythings normal, maybe theres an extra mission afterwards helping them rebuild the village but not exactly the same as it was but fortified, different to account for things like this happening again, establishing the crashsite of vah medoh as a second outpost, or a temple, to thank it for bringing them out of immedaite danger but couldnt go all the way
theres so many places that are so clearly modeled around botw that are entirely unused now bc they had to remove all things shiekah for no reason, the holes they left jsut being holes where somethings clearly missing or some chest with a gem in it while the new shrine thing is within view distance a few meters away, might as well have put them in the exact same place bc it really doesnt make a difference
(like alot of those ideas im using for the rewrite which changes many things but you get the point right??)
and its even worse imo with the building stuff, bc now you dont even have to journey there you can fly glide and literally drive there instantly like a giant skip button so you cant even appreaciate the way to it, you skip to one important part to the next
and then points of interest are REPEATED AGAIN, like with shrines and lightroots and settlements and big mines- that is the opposite of satisfying gameplay, you dont have to explore shit bc its all in the same place which is probably why they only did tiny changes to those few spots and nothing else bc they knew most people would run right to those so it gives the illusion of changes (which are half reversable or barely a change at all) and even those are STILL meaningless
its right up there with having even MORE grind with less substance to it than in botw, the shrines and krogs got a lil old but at least the environment, its subtle storytelling etc were something- and totk just bloated everything with more little meaningless collectables while not changing anything meaningfully (and instead pretends that some things where never there and those new boring things were always there)
more shriens with shorter puzzles or none at all, more krogs with the same reward system, over a hundred tiny caves that all blend together bc they are all so similar and you really only do them for yet another colelctable for old gear and ONE cool new one with a bad effect after which the things collected become uselessreally, souls to collect to buy you a single armor set, rewards being largley reused old stuff from botw (imo you should have a chest in your house, yes YOUR house, that got most of the standard versions of botws armor in it so you dont have to buy it all again??? but you gotta think of going home first and dont have to use it- make new versions of them alternatively so you can choose if you want the old one or new one and also LEAVE ONE AT YOUR HOUSE WITHOUT HAVING TO SELL IT SO YOUT INVENTORY ISNT AS ENDLESSLY SCROLLING AS YOUR STUPID ARROW BAR)
theres new effects from food and armor thats largely useless (like the attack when hot?? why wouldnt you you jsut combine an armor and a potion- put on hot armor and drink an attack potion? its way more efficient no?? idk i found it to be yet another effect thing to bloat my inventory especially when NPCs keep giving you shitty effect food)
the whole sonanium (zonaite?) collecting with multiple ways to convert it into yet another currency??? huh???? AND have it be the thing for you to autobuild with?? when you need it upgrade your battery which takes an insane amount of those stones?? wells, while finally an actual well are NOW ALSO LIKE A COLLECTABLE and im gonna take a wild guess that the reward is utterly disappointing too
the fairies are all blocked by much more annoying means than in botw (like i wouldnt want to carry those NPCs three meters away in their little cart antoehr time please) and the amount of material AND MONEY NOW you need is so much higher for no reason (if its their attempt to make the game harder its the lamest way to do it)-
all while instead of expanding on the foundation of botw they ripped it out to build a new one while pretending they are both there (im so so slaty about this .... a sequel like this should expand upon the stuff of the first game, both in theme, narrative, mechanics and more and not ... replace it with slightly different versions of it while abandoning everything established before and really only using it as a way to skip having to make you care about some characters bc you might still care about them from the other game)
i could go on, as always lol, anyway, i really really dont get why this got into the final game ..

an uncomfortable reminder that the thing you like so much and care so much about is still just a product, a thing to make money with and in these times of ever more precise non-risk taking to cater to the maximum amount of people while saying nothing at all to not offend to generate the most revenue ... and their commentary about not understanding why anyone likes the old titles
given the success of it
it makes me worry this is the start of a big downfall into yet more uninteresting schlop while people are already pretending the games were always bad or there was never anything of substance anyway, so why demand better, this is the best yet, you are just mad they didnt cater it around your taste specifically, right?
it might seem like im just a totk hater, and to be fair, i AM, but its not bc i think its bad in every way- if it was all bad, ok, then its all bad and we can forget it happened and can all accept that-
but totk specifically hit the jackpot of -things that frustrate me so much i cannot let go and need to talk about it-
its part of my current hyperfixation (or whatever is the right word), botw is one of my all time favorite games, and that one had so many mysteries i was DEEPLY invested in, its got great music and some absolutely fanatstic moments, some ideas are great to fine, but it doesnt make sense, i hate time travel like little else in games, it constantly contradicts itself, the franchise, even its previous game its supposed to be a sequel to, i felt like i was made fun of by the game itself, for caring so much about what they had set up or done in botw, the moment i saw what they did to the shrine of life i felt so devasted i could hear people pointing and laughing at me for having cared about it, the writing treating me like i am so brainless i cannot connect dot one and two when there are only two dots in front of me labeld 1 and 2 that it then tells me to connect directly, to my face, multiple times, before showing me how to draw a line, its full, so SO FULL of missed opportunities, its got choices in there that are just nothing but frustrating bc there were a hundred other ones, i can see what you could do wit hthe basic ideas, theres people that worship it to a point you cant say anything even mildly critical, even about objectively bad things (there is no excuse for that godawful arrow menu) bc they will jump at you like a rabid animal-
i could go on but you get the point, never in my life has anything hit me like that

i was so damn excited for what they could do, the time after the first reveal trailer was ... i felt like i never felt before bc it was so exciting, what would they do with all the things i cared so much about in botw? how will they expand on it omg i literally feel like exploding-
and then it wasnt bc they wanted to expand on it, they wanted to reuse the world with different things in it, the things i cared about most vanished and treated like they never existed, now replaced by something thats almost the same but also isnt, like an imposter, literally, thats the best way to descirbe it i guess, i feel like totk is an imposter trying to make me doubt there was ever anything of substance to botw, that anything of it mattered- and its why i feel so scared of the future now, like a wake up call on no ... they dont care, either anymore or .. never did, everything we thought had meaning might never had one and could be replaced any second if they feel like it-
should i get invested into their games again .. should i care when they dont?
it might seem like im just a totk hater, and to be fair, i AM, but its not bc i think its bad in every way- if it was all bad, ok, then its all bad and we can forget it happened and can all accept that-

okay, more thoughts- not really about the first point but the latter-
im pretty sure she lands somwhere on the great plateau, given that you see little but normal standard trees and the scene after that is her standing on the edge of botws opening (lets ignore that i hate how 1 to 1 the same the past is despite it being over 10 THOUSAND years, like at least idk make the model of the tres bigger so it looks actually different- i know this is fantasy mc fantasyland but do you know how different our world was that long ago?? ), i dont think it would make sense to get her all the way up there unless she already was in roughly in the same place-
anyway, my point is also that if you look at it twice its yet another plot convenience for the sake of convenience (again why not have a construct or another hylian find her and lead her to the others .. wouldnt that make more sense? and neither have to talk either- wouldnt that make the past at least a tiny bit more like theres other people but the royal pair and ganondorf + background no name no face sages bc rly do they count at all) AND ... huge missed opportunity to at least make it funny/more interesting by having her land in the middle of their tea table or something so its literally like she was dropped in their lap, funny, and also serve as a better connection bc rauru always has his enigma stone on him so why wouldnt his stone from the future bring her to it in the past huh?
also something in mentioned before but had more thought tm, i dont like how there isnt even a slight hint of a language barrier, like you are telling me that the hylian language stayed perfectly the same over a time period of over TEN THOUSAND YEARS?? MUCH longer even since 10k was just the og calamity and totks past is way before that (if we keep wanting to lie to ourselves that they are connected bc it really isnt) and especially the sonau too, they came from the sky not too long before so how come they just speak that perfectly- but i can accept that, it would be hard to do with voice acting (which is still think they shouldnt do ... i like it without so much more and its quality is laughably bad in some cases), i get that ok BUT THEN you got the sonau research people that have to translate everything on ruins so ... its NOT the same? or is the spoken just somehow the same as modern hyrule but the written stuff isnt? (i can excuse it in botw with the monks more bc they got future vision and also beam their words into your head so they get a pass in my book lol--- also not having voice acting would have instantly solved that bc ... they dont have to say it)
-it feels like a similar disconnect to how every botw relevant shiekah stuff got snapped out of existence and no one gives a shit but then other stuff is just still there .. somehow and i dont think the words shiekah tech are used a single time in the game-
having something like communication problems or some part of hyrule that is just wildly different (again, like giant trees, we got those big stumps all over modern hyrule .. so why not use that to make it seem ancient ;O; a different SEASON?? no?? or make the color of the grass different, ANYTHING, the tiktok-esque glow filter is the lamest way to attempt that) even if it requires little change in itself (scale up model, change hue BAM done) would have done so much to actually make it feel like theres literally any time that passed between zeldas memories and the present bc it doesnt, and it doesnt help that sonia and rauru (AFTER HE ALREADY DID EPIC SAD UWU TURN TO DUST SCENE NO I WILL NOT SHUT UP ABOUT THAT) just .. come back to undo zeldas only action in the game, like at least let them stay dead/in the past so theres ANY disconnect
this game would make me so much less mad if it wasnt constnatly contradicting itself, if there wasnt anything good at all ok then i can forget it happend alot better but no theres stuff to work with and so many, hugely, missed opportunities and sometiems the dumbest choice taken out of a hundred and it wont let me rest so when i have thoughts tm i gotta spill them out before it starts to mold my brain
(been rewatching some of those totk critique vids i liked in the past and now seeing the cutscenes again, espeically when compared to botws, ......... the way the characters move and everything is so stiff?? like i didnt rly notice it when i played the game bc i watched each scene once and never looked back bc i was so bored but now i see just ... like sometimes it feels like all thats missing is the mouse someones using to slightly move the model on its rig in real time- or the way the characters talk feeling alot more like the classical mouth open mouth closed bwabwabwa- especially on rauru and mineru
i dont wanna sound like im literally trying to find something wrong with everything of that game but ... it looks so static- like the way the champions in botw moved while talking already gave you a bit of extra character but in totk they all just kinda .. do the basic movement and move their jaw enough to imply talking?? am i crazy?? like its not that extreme in every single moment but for most of them ... right?)
-not really the point in itself but also bc i just saw the first cutscene you get after zelda gets to da paaaast again ... how the hell do sonia and rauru even find zelda.. like, its possible she was lying on the ground for a while but even then, hyrule is so BIG what are the chances that the king and queen just where there exactly, its not like she was carried by a giant bird and dropped into a tree (ww), she just kind materializes and gently plops into long grass. like its not even a cosntruct that finds her, or some hylian, no its them specifically (couldnt you have used the lil heehoo look how rich in personality da king is actually bc he sneaks out to hunt sometime info for that? .. he was out on a hunt and found her or sth? no? another case of plot shortcuts or whatever you want to call it?)-

Tumblr media
concept 2
it has little tadpole like .. followers (like a counterpart to the rumi- rabbit ones for satori)
you can rescue them and bring them back for rewards, like the spirit armor for example (but with a dif effect bc i hate the spend money to not take dmg thing ....), some are just lost while others have been captured or been eaten by the big anglerfish type enemy in the underground (havent drawn it yet), you can see from the outside if its got one bc they will glow from the inside
if you collected one or multiple they will follow you around until you bring them back to this big lad- if you leave the underground or teleport they will remain where you had left
(my idea for the effect of the spirit armor set is that it will attract the tadpoles in the underground or rumis on the surface that will follow you around- bc its cute :3)
Tumblr media
(concept 1)
Tumblr media
(refined design)
more totk rewritten/botw 2 concept wips
im removing the mayoi (frogs in caves) bc i dont like how satori and its aesthetic was turned from something mysterious and otherwordly to yet another collectable-
so im turnign the frog idea into a single thing living in the underground as a counterpart to satori itself- perhaps it resides in a giant tree growing from the ceiling bc i ASLO didnt like how there was that at first cool looking underground tree with all the rumis (rabbit things) but then it was quite literally nothing (again)
this idea is pretty new so i am still working on the details, im all ears for suggestions :P
