I used to hate using ‘love’ liberally. I felt it was a sacred word only to be used in very special occasions. Now that I’m older, I’ve come to the realization that love should be shared and felt and received with reckless abandon. Love these characters, love this food, love things in the moment, even if they may seem tiny and insignificant to others. I think it makes life a little more soft around the edges.

This is such a small step but seeing it in the store today honestly made my day. We still have a long way to go but these little things make me smile.

the biggest problem with pacing in steven universe has nothing to do with the writers at all but entirely to do with cartoon network’s awful scheduling.

when you don’t get any new episodes for weeks or months at a time, and then 5 in a row all of a sudden, it throws off the pacing. things feel weird, rushed, even confusing sometimes.

additionally, when fans have to wait weeks or even months at a time for a new episode, they get impatient and have much less tolerance for the eps they see as “filler” (ie: episodes that aren’t lore centric and don’t necessary resolve major plot points).

and I get it, it sucks to wait 6 to 8 weeks or more for a new episode of a show you enjoy only to have it be a slice of life that doesn’t answer any questions from the last episode that aired weeks ago that was maybe plot oriented. the problem is, writers intentionally put lighthearted episodes in between plot-oriented ones so that viewers don’t feel overwhelmed with too much too fast.

I’ve gone back and rewatched parts of the show that were originally aired in the bomb format and spaced out pretty far from other episodes before them and the pacing felt so much better when I did that. I wish more people would recognize that the pacing problem lies primarily with CN and there refusal to give steven universe a regular time slot.
