an incomplete Twelfth Night casting

martin is Sir Toby. old knight, gone to seed a little and drunk off his face all the time. extremely witty and charismatic, extremely dangerous when the opportunity (almost) arises. “nay then, i must have an ounce of this malapert blood from you.” bart is Feste. otherworldly, an outsider. strange speech, keen insight, doesn’t give a shit if nobody around her understands what she’s saying. i can hear her singing The Wind and the Rain. don’t fight me on this. 

todd is Sebastian. confused, hurt, absolutely no idea what is going on. a strangely enthusiastic man keeps following him around and giving him things. worried about his sister, cries a lot, picks fights when backed into a corner. “are all the people mad?”  dirk is Horatio. really, really into Sebastian for some reason. an extremely mysterious past that is in no way satisfactorily resolved or even revealed. enemies everywhere. what happens to him in the end? Who Knows. “my love, without retention or restraint, all his in dedication.”  amanda is Viola. heroine, brave, excellent in a crisis. sharp as a tack. basically everyone who meets her falls in love with her sharp tongue and her sharper mind.  farah is Olivia. countess, ferociously independent, stubborn as a mule. blindsided by love despite steeling herself against it. “I do I know not what and fear to find my heart too great a flatterer for my mind.”

i believe the OP means in the more dictionary-ish sense of “antisocial”, not its more colloquial connotations of “introverted” or “misanthropic.” here’s a Google Define because I’m super academically rigorous: “contrary to the laws and customs of society, in a way that causes annoyance and disapproval in others.” the way he drives, the aggressive and kind of invasive way he inserts himself into Todd’s life, the way he asks about Amanda’s disease... he’s not particularly well-adjusted, and while he’s very charming and endearing, “antisocial” is not at all an unreasonable descriptor. he loves people! he’s just sort of terrible at functioning in society.

I see people comparing Dirk Gently to Sherlock and it’s not even the same at all

Sherlock is antisocial mess and a jerk and has like 0 faith in his friends. i used to like this show, but characters just rub me the wrong way now

Dirk is clueless and literally has to be handed clues or have one of his moments of literally supernatural clairvoyance and trusts his friends and trusts people he’s barely even met. Sure he’s also anti-social but that’s gotta be because of his childhood spend in a secret CIA facility that studied his powers.

im talking of course the 2016 dirk gently. the 2010/2012 one is more of a jerk but is still a clueless fuck so when he investigates it’s more of his resolve to find the clues rather than him being the only one to see them (and has narcoleptic clairvoyance which he never uses because he sleeps alone and it requires someone listening to him sleep talk) but he still has the fresh go-getting attitude

yeah i definitely agree with this. i think knee-jerk comparisons to Sherlock are often to do with the accent - same deal Doctor Who, actually (especially Matt Smith’s Doctor.) i’m always profoundly uncomfortable when people fetishize accents and read admiration for an entire country/culture/continent into their enjoyment of a particular way of speaking, ESPECIALLY when said way of speaking is Received Pronunciation and has a whole complex history of classist undertones (well, overtones if we’re honest.)  it would be off-topic to go into my abiding and passionate hatred for that “i’m attracted to intelligence! [96 pictures of mediocre actors with upper-class English accents]” kind of post, so I will not!
