My name is Quincy Gardner, I’m the newly appointed president for the National Ladies Homestead Gathering Deschutes County chapter, we’re the very first chapter of ‘The Gathering’ here on the west coast! Officially our chapter will take us coast to coast y’all. Y'all. Meet my bffs right now. Peppermint and Lemon. Essential oils guys. Need I say more? - Ok maybe I do.. This pregnancy has been throwing me curveballs covered in nausea the last week. Yes I could get a prescription from my doctor for some Big Pharma "magic pill", but why would I when I have a whole medicine cabinet full of oils at my disposal! - For instant relief I simply pass the peppermint under my nose and take a few deep breathes. - 2-3 drops are added to my 40 oz. @hydroflask to sip on throughout the day and to fight off any nausea I might encounter. Yesterday I finished tying up the string for one of the square foot gardens. Today I'll plant some of the plots.. currently I am drawing up a schematic of sorts to decide where everything will go, there are 24 plots after all and I'm going to be putting my companion planting knowledge to the test, hence the drawing. It takes a village y'all.. and I'm not just talking about the toddler running around naked or the 4 year drawing on the walls. I'm talking about great friends who are the best bird blood hounds, say the word and this friend can find me anything I desire.. within reason of course.. and did I ever claim to have self control? Definitely not... so these littles will be coming home tomorrow! I just love babies.. Humans, bunnies, or goslings; send them my way for I love them all. Oh the beauty of a hidden nest.. photographing eggs could easily be described as one of my favorite farm chores, and yes it totally counts! The places I've found my hens laying never ceases to amaze me, from Spencer's tool bag (literally found an egg in the grip of a hand saw) to the center of the burn pile. These ole gals always keep me guessing but soon they'll be all cooped up for a job! Number of sick kids: 2 Times I've been vomited on: 3 Baby plants/ animals to care for: 9584 Weeks until baby #3: 12 (million) Why is it kids get sick at the worst times? Like seriously, my kids, they have a talent for getting sick at horrible times, just like I did as a kid come to think of it. Maybe it was a big event, or too much stress, it always made me sick as a kid. The last two weeks have been a trying time for our family, grief paired with planning events, so much life happening all around yet someone we love just lost theirs. With all this hustle and bustle I'm just taking my time. Time to get well, for my babies to get well.. you can't rush the immune system, time to hold baby chicks and spritz tiny seedlings. Time to take a big deep breath before the next few days of benefits, fundraisers and a celebration of life. Boy I don't know if I'm ready for this.
