I'm about to start building this thing with the help of a friend and his shopmates. 1:1 scale build out of foam and aluminum based off scans of the 1:6 Sideshow figure and Pepakura files, and will have articulated hands and range of motion in ankles for stability. Very nervous but incredibly excited to possibly live a dream by this next spring.

Blog thing

Starting a blog on Wordpress. I’ve had the domain name for a while, but not the motivation to actually use it. School starts tomorrow and suddenly I feel like I should also be writing.

Incidentally, this means writing other things, too. I mean it.

So chubby. Can't wait to see it in the morning.

Thinking it might be looking for a good spot to turn into a chrysalis, I put it on a potted lemon tree (it's the husband's baby, grew it from seed). Sure enough, after an hour, it'd anchored itself and started spinning a little safety harness. Swallowtails lean out from their twigs!

Found a caterpie in the garden today! It's a black swallowtail caterpillar that must've hatched and fed on my bronze fennel. I've never had one before and was so excited to find it! But it was confusing at first because it kept crawling into the porch, where it might get stepped on...

Peeps in progress So I've been terrible with collecting or shaking every egg laid between my three pairs of adults and mistakenly thought the last round was rendered infertile. Nope. Java and Cinnamon had a single egg that (despite shaking) hatched, followed by one of Ruffles and Latte's pipping the next morning. I tossed the remaining eggs (not pipping) and put the pipping egg under Java since she's a proven reliable mom. Both parents are slightly annoyed when I check on the babies but head pats fix it soon enough.

Peep progression Refined and Turbinado, the last set of adopted babies that Java and Cinnamon raised. They're about a month old now and are able to feed themselves.

My tiny vulture Keeping this one indoors until she's finished getting feathers in. The other pigeons went after her when I took her into the aviary last. She's finally getting pinfeathers showing around her scar tissue.
