I don’t usually cover these types of topics directly on my blog because of how much drama they create. But this is (as you may well imagine) regarding the issue with whether or not the t-shirt that Jimin was seen wearing during a few seconds of the promo for either Burn The Stage (during the Wings Tour, I think it was the ep when they were in the US already) or was it Bon Voyage?
Anyway.
Many other Armys and I of course share the same sentiment that us foreign fans shouldn’t get involved in issues in which another country’s political views and History are heavy at play.
But as a Historian, I’ve also expressed how I don’t like to follow rumors/gossip. I like to do my research well, see how deep the rabbit hole really is. And I’ve found a very interesting thread made by someone who’s partner and his family are from Japan. They themselves also did their research and found that, as expected, the real issue was never against Jimin OR BTS. These were all rumors/gossip/speculation being thrown around by antis using a very sketchy source and blown out of proportions through stan twitter.
Yes… we been knew what goes on in both stan twitter and stan instagram. But it is those platforms that are being used to spread false information faster (especially accounts like Allkpop who just love to spread rumors about anything and everyone. Even Jungkook’s being criticized for not jumping up and down for joy during Tw*ce’s performance, with some ppl calling him arrogant and having a “problematic attitude” [millennial and their made-up terms *eye roll*])
The OP also mentions that they got in contact with the her partner’s family, who live in Tokyo, and neither of them had even heard of the BTS “issue” until they themselves mentioned it to them.
Also, lets not forget the following:
#1. - IF this issue really were over a t-shirt and its problematic “message”… why didn’t anyone go after J*oheon of M*nstaX for wearing that SAME shirt during 161130 Weekly Idol? (A LIVE program).
Why is Jimin the only one receiving heat over this?
#2. BTS are not the only ones who had to cancel their schedule/performances in Japan. Tw*ce also did and I remember reading something that they actually did the smart move to cancel since a group was planning on boycotting their performance.
#3. Isn’t it all just awfully CONVENIENT that all this shade is being thrown at BTS right after winning all those awards on GMA. AND the audio failure/accident during the collab with Charlie Puth for “Fake Love”? Where a lot of antis started dragging the boys, especially Jimin & Tae for their voices cracking or sounding off? Though we know that the “tshirt thing” has been circling the net for awhile now, but not much fuss was made about it until NOW when both Kor & JPN are under a lot of tension over something that is completely political and involves a long History of events between both nations. (it has NOTHING to do with Idols or even KPOP).
Another thing I’ve noticed is that BEFORE this incident, I could go on Youtube and search for BTS content in peace, but now suddenly YT is being infested with false media channels (by both Korean and Japanese users) talking about the goddamn tshirt like its national news everywhere. Where the hell were these channels before? And why are they popping around now to the point where I had to install “Video Blocker” on my browser just to make them all disappear.
This is really shady AF and I don’t see a lot of people discussing about this, only repeating what others tell them over and over again.
I’ll leave the link so you guys can read the whole thing HERE.
If BTS has a million fans, I’m one of them.
If BTS has five fans, I’m one of them.
If BTS have one fan, that one is me
If BTS has no fan that means I’m no longer on earth.
If the world is against of BTS then I’m against the world.
Until the very end, I’ll support and love BTS
