Build Your Writing Haven!
Rules: Describe your perfect writing environment without pictures
I need my earbuds! I've (semi-successfully) pavloved myself into going into writing mode when I turn on one of my character playlists, so music is a must. The music can't be too loud, and it's gotta be on earbuds, not headphones or out loud. Headphones just aren't comfortable to me. If the music is the wrong vibe or has lyrics, nothing's getting done. If there are ads or my battery starts complaining about being low, it frustrates me to no end.
I like writing on a couch so I have plenty of room to stretch out and shift position
Some sort of nearby snack or beverage
Warm temperature. I'm a lizard at heart and I can't stand the cold
Phone out of sight and, hopefully, out of mind
Natural light
Cats next to me, instead of trying to type on my keyboard along with me
In conclusion, I'm not terribly picky, except when it comes to my music. I'll tag @somethingclevermahogony @sleepyowlwrites @spideronthesun @undeadcas @moonandris @bard-coded and anyone else who wants in :)

I've definitely posted this sentiment before BUT being the same age as your blorbos is so insane because Mr kaladin stormblessed is out here leading people into war and becoming a magical demigod figure but he's also never heard of college. never experienced the epic highs and lows of football or whatever. I'm also 20 and depressed but hey I'm getting me my degree and this bitch can't even read.

Okay, super weird qn but do y'all ever dream of being your OCs?? Like having dreams where you actually are them and are living through their plot and stuff?
I'm asking this because according to my friends that's not normal
Reblogs are appreciated because the more people who respond to this, the more likely my friends are to believe me when I say I'm totally normal

Yeah, the Nabafyrians have it rough. And as for the death guides, nominally they're bound to guide souls fairly to their destination, but Loqang the professional meddler has been known to stretch the definition of loyalty pretty far in order to encompass souls who would otherwise end up in a less desirable afterlife
heyy!
These ones from this ask game:
CREATION – What is the most popular creation myth? Is it true?
DARKNESS – Have you created any constellations? Do they have meanings?
DEATH – What happens after death?
tyy!
Creation:
The most widespread religion is Illarianism and their creation myth is... pretty close? They believe in an ultimate deity who resides in the sun and created sentient life, which went on to think up the lesser gods. This is pretty close to the truth. It just leaves out End and the real reason sentient life was created - which is pretty much just to think up gods to protect the last mind of Beginning. Most other creation myths feature some sort of ultimate deity and lesser gods, so even though the details change, the core truth remains the same.
Darkness:
There are constellations in Illaros (even though they don't have stars as we know it), but they don't feature too heavily in the story. Generally, they're used by sailors to navigate, so a lot are nautical in theme. Probably the best known one is Ibara's Arrow. Named for the goddess of navigation, it points north no matter the time of year.
Death:
Well, that depends on who you worship! Souls are claimed by the gods they were closest to in life. Afterlives vary wildly depending on the god, so there's just about any option you can think of. I think the most interesting afterlife is that of the Nabafyrian ancestors. Nabafyrian elves worship the heros of their bloodline. They pray to warrior ancestors in times of crisis and to artisan ancestors when they need focus. These dead elves are treated as minor spirits with divine power - which means that they, like all gods and spirits, must go out to fight End at the edge of the solar wheel. So, imagine you're some old elf who dies peacefully, only to wake up as a minor god and immediately getting conscripted into an eternal battle against the destruction of the universe. You have to go fight the literal stars next to immortal beings who are the pure embodiments of the sea and greed and other stuff, but you're just, like, some guy who died. ...Yeah, I have a lot of feelings about these guys.
Thanks for the asks!

That is a very interesting answer! Aquila seems like a fascinating person
STRENGTH – Who is the most famous historical figure?
Thanks for the ask @illarian-rambling!
The answer has to be Aquila Mancinus, the warrior-poet who unified the various hobgoblin tribes that became the Empire. Aquila never formally adopted the title of emperor nor believed in the newly created faith of the Imperial Cult, but he is commonly considered to be the first Emperor. He is almost worshipped in the Empire, considered a demigod child of Solis (the sun god of the Imperial Cult).
However, the part-elves utterly revile him, as the crusades he started are the main reason their kingdom fell. And while I haven't talked about them yet, the lizardfolk and humans of the Basin hold some measure of respect for Aquila. They see him simply as a strong and charismatic unifier, and the success of the crusades and the power of the nation he helped found lends credence to that view.
Aquila is probably one of the few historical figures who would actually live up the hype and myth that has been built around him. Beyond just being strong and charismatic, he was honorable and just; his laws, the Aquilan Code, applied to nobles just as much as soldiers or farmers; and during the crusades he gave opposing elven forces options for surrender and did not attack non-combatants.
However, after he died of old age, his favored general took control and created the role of emperor, justifying it by saying that the fledgling empire would always need a strong leader like Aquila. Going forward, the general and his successors ended many of the more progressive features of the Aquilan Code, pursued the elves much more ruthlessly, and turned Aquila's call for unity into a call for uniformity.
Thanks again for the ask, I hope this was an interesting answer!

These three could probably put together a TEDtalk on any subject imaginable if they combined their efforts tbh
OC Interaction Tag
Rules: describe an OC of yours, then describe how that OC would interact with the OCs of the people who tagged you
Thanks @kaylinalexanderbooks and @illarian-rambling for the tags!
Kaylin’s OC: Maddie is an 11-year-old girl who is quiet, curious, and a bit of a risk-taker. She's generally well-liked but isn't sure why people like her. She fidgets and squirms and likes to remain active, especially with her hands. She's a STEM kid through and through, loving each letter in the acronym. Maddie takes things apart, such as pens, to see how they work and eventually joins her school's robotics club. She believes in direct fairness - will match your tone with her - and gets a little upset if she is misunderstood, which is often, since she thinks she's straightforward. Her honesty leads to her being nosy, as she believes everyone should be open. Maddie is an animal shapeshifter, and enjoys the physical sensation of morphing as well as pushing her limits a little too much. She's a gamer who prefers consuls with buttons and enjoys old sci-fi shows and modern cartoons. Despite not quite understanding emotions, she does try to be there for the people she cares about, and usually tries to defuse a serious situation with a little joke.
Katie’s OC: Astra DuClaire is a 25 year old witch. She was too poor to get a proper education, so she snuck into lecture halls and bribed her way into labs to learn her trade, eventually taking on the specialty of runic mechanics. After learning all she could, she slapped some steel baba yaga legs on a vardo wagon and began her business as a traveling mage in the sketchy land of her birth. As a person, the first thing one would notice about Astra is her arrogance. She's prideful to a fault when it comes to her magic, though this is mostly a front to cover up some deep insecurities regarding her lackluster education. She loves helping people, is hungry to learn new things, and has a deep, angry sense of social justice. She believes all people have inalienable dignity. In her dialog, she's coarse and has a raunchy saying for every occasion. It doesn't matter that she's five nothing, her argumentative streak stretches into next week and she will be a bitch about it. But as angry as she can be, she has just as big a capacity for wonder and love. Her hobbies include tinkering, embroidery, and pirating music.
My OC: Stellaris is a disliked nobleman, the younger brother of Sixth Station head Cassiopeia. He’s a scrawny-looking blond man with big purple eyes who wears shabby nobleman’s clothing and has a permanently flat affect. Stellaris is autistic, which makes him unpopular among nobles due to his complete inability to understand social cues and perform social niceties such as eating food he dislikes because it was offered to him. He has a kind heart but struggles to express it and communicate well to others. His special interest is history and he loves telling others about it and asking them about anything they know about it, but he doesn’t mind taking turns talking about interests if people are willing to take their turn listening to his. He is extremely blunt and honest at all times, even when it might come across as rude, although he frequently doubts or disparages himself because of how people have treated him.
How Stellaris and Maddie would interact: I think they’d get along very well! Stellaris wouldn’t understand Maddie’s interests, but he’d be happy to listen to her talk about her interests and tell her what he knows about Seven Stations technology, which I think she’d really enjoy. He’d definitely want to tell her about his interests and would be delighted to know that she’s from what he considers historical times and would probably ask her a bunch of questions. I think their communication styles are really compatible, he wouldn’t mind her being a bit nosy and trying to be straightforward. She might end up mimicking his tone and accidentally talking way louder than she should out of a misinterpretation that he was yelling at her (he tends to talk a bit too loud), but I think they’d get along despite this.
How Stellaris and Astra would interact: Honestly, I think she’d scare him at first. Astra has a very forceful personality that I think he’d find intimidating. I feel like Astra would initially find him a bit weird but would quickly figure out that there’s a lot more to him than his “strange” mannerisms and take a liking to him. I think if he ever talked about how the other nobles treat him, she’d get really angry on his behalf and he’d take a whining to that real fast. He’d start off just doing what she told him to because he’s a bit afraid of her, but I think he’d start chatting with her after she realized she wouldn’t hurt him. After that, I think they’d talk a lot about their interests, and he’d interrogate her about her life too, because her life reminds him a lot about history. He might accidentally pry a bit far and get her to bristle by asking about something she’s sensitive about, but he’d apologize profusely enough that I think she’d be willing to let it go.
I love this game! I hope y’all like the interactions, lmk what you think of them :)

Yeah I've def mentioned a few before. Glad you like them!
COURAGE – What is the most worshipped trait in this society, and who do they consider to be the epitome of this trait? Do they deserve this worship?
Well, if you look at human societies (read: Illarian societies where the religion isn't just performative), that can vary greatly. A person is supposed to emulate one of the gods to the best of their abilities in order to be commended. A dedicated parent would be seen as worthy of praise for emulating the goddess of family. A conniving merchant might be lauded for their following of the god of greed or cunning. Even a violent madman can garner respect for choosing the path of the goddess of survival or rage. Just so long as you live up to one of the godly values to your fullest potential, you are seen as, if not good, then at least worthy.
The people considered to be the epitome of this are the divine Chosen. The gods chose their champions from among those most dedicated to their path. The Chosen of the goddess of perseverance will be bullheadedly determined. The Chosen of the god of cunning will lie with every second breath. The Chosen of the goddess of duality probably has bpd. And, of course, the Chosen of the god of loyalty is blindly faithful to whoever she follows.
Despite their strength of character, though, the Chosen are still human. They can change and grow, and may not always fit the image of the god that picked them. This is more ok in Janaz, where priests are seen as community servants and treated more casually. In the Republic, though, religion is much more formal and Chosen are expected to be superhuman paragons of their gods. Thankfully for the Chosen, they all live in Janaz, so it's only on missions abroad that they really experience this kind of treatment.
Thanks for the ask!

Find the Word Tag
Thanks so much for the tag @illarian-rambling!
My words: scrunch, skyward, silver, seam
Your words: soft, silk, sapphire, sugar
Scrunch: Project H.A, Chapter 5 (literally just posted this but it's okay lol. Also, it's indented because it's a flashback.)
She was six years old and sitting at the dining room table, the dense potato warming her from the inside out. She smiled wide, forcing her eyes closed. Her whole face scrunched up in enjoyment, and her eyes crinkled at the corners. "Yummy." She said. Her father stood in the kitchen next to the sink, quickly eating a bowl of cereal. "It’s good?" He asked with a smile. "It's great!" She exclaimed. "Daddy, why can't you have a potato?"
Skyward: (Using sky instead of skyward, and I still hardly had it lol) - Project R.S
Mickie was in the small kitchen of their boat (they lived on a boat btw, it’s a houseboat), drinking hot coffee that they had just brewed that morning. They stood next to the sink, sipping their drink slowly so as to not burn themself, and staring out the window at the sun which was barely beginning to peak over the horizon. The beautiful morning sun tinged the sky a million shades of pink, purple, blue, and black. Rose streaks combined with a mystical purple hue, contrasting with the dark black that remained of the night sky. And then they heard the sound that started it all.
Silver: Project H.A, "The Effects of Jealousy"
As I tripped over one of my high heels as it fell off, my necklace came unclipped. It had barely been clipped at the beginning of this chase, since I had been messing with it, and as it gave up its sole purpose of holding together around my neck and tumbling to the ground, I turned around a second time to observe the scene unfolding behind me. Adrian, the wolf, him, it… clawed dramatically backwards as the necklace landed near him. The blue and white stone glimmered on the silver chain as it lay, haphazardly, on the floor. He retreated back a little further, his eyes flicking between the necklace and me, and he let out an angry growl, every strand of his white fur standing on end. I didn’t stop. Ripping off my other high heel, I ran twice as fast without the addition of trying to balance in those shoes. I ran until I reached the end of the tunnel, opening the door to the outside world.
Seam: Project R.S
The first Protector looked straight into his eyes, and the piercing gaze was almost too much when– “You’re going to leave Bayama?” he asked, incredulously. “Possibly, perhaps, I’m not sure…” Rousseau shrunk down, trying to compress himself into as little space as possible. His dream was falling apart at the seams already. Was this his dream? “If this is your heart’s desire,” The Protector interrupted, “I believe you must. As long as you know the cost?” Rousseau felt relief and then tension, in quick succession. “Th-the cost?” he squeaked. “Yes, this isn’t some frivolous trip down to Earth, there is a point to going down there.” The Protector looked him in the eyes. “You are going to find yourself. And if that means not returning to Bayama, then so be it.”
Let's go, I had all of them (pretty much) for once! Project R.S really pulled through with the ones I would not have had otherwise.
Tagging @mk-writes-stuff @poethill @kaylinalexanderbooks and whoever else wants to join! <3

I do think they'd be besties, at least so long as Fury keeps all the murdering under wraps. Daedryn would definitely call Loqang and ask him to pull up in all his divine glory if she felt Fury was a little too condescending tho
OC Interaction Tag
Thanks so much for the tag @illarian-rambling!
Rules: Provide a short description of your OC, then using the description given by the person who tagged you, describe how you think the two of them would interact.
Katie's OC: Daedryn is a lady knight with one eye and red hair. She's the divine Chosen of Loqang, god of rivers and loyalty. Due to this, she is fiercely loyal to whatever person or organization she has promised herself to, to the point of following orders for orders sake. Outside of battle, where she is a force to be reckoned with, she's very sweet, a little awkward, and loves to talk about her god, who she sees as her best friend.
My OC: Fury is a trans (male-to-female) lunowolf who is 20-something years old in appearance and maturity level, but is actually 184. She, as well as the other lunowolves, worship the Moon which puts off energy to keep them alive, and the Sisterhood, a group of goddesses who live on the Moon. In order for the Moon to continue producing enough energy, Fury has to kill humans because human corpses are the only things they know of that can fuel the Moon. She has a traumatic past and is a murderer and arsonist, among other things, and struggles with depressive and manic episodes, but to people she likes (non-humans, that is, she hates all humans), she's extremely loyal and caring and will do anything for them.
How they'd interact: Despite the fact that Daedryn is a human, I think Fury would admire her and how much they both have in common. Fury wouldn't believe in Loqang, she would think that's just something cute that Daedryn believes in, but she would respect and admire her loyalty. I think Daedryn would be Fury's best friend, and they'd probably talk about favorite weapons and other, less gory things, like movies or something, and paint each others nails (just girlie things lol).
No pressure tagging @avocado-frog @spideronthesun @clearcloudlesssky and anyone else who wants to give this a whirl! <3

I do think Astra and Stellaris would get along well! Her mode of affection is very much 'make thing,' so she'd probably bring him all sorts of old timey stuff (modern for her) to study, but she’d totally want access to the space station engines in exchange. But yeah, if she heard about any noble treating him poorly, she'd give them a full 'bless your heart' ass chewing

DISEASE – What is the deadliest disease, and how is it spread?
Please, make my microbiologist heart happy <3
tyy for the ask, @illarian-rambling!! And, no problem, I’ll try! <33
The biggest disease isn’t actually widely known, but there is a wide range of people gullible enough to experience it.
It’s not so much a “disease”, but the closest I have to one, so sorry for disappointing you :(
It’s called zy’tama, and basically, it’s a bond between two people. The easiest way to think about it is that it’s a Blood Bond, where if you don’t fulfil the requirements of the bond, you die slowly, the magic being sucked out of your veins and transferring it to the other person sharing the bond with you.
It’s not really “spread” as such, but it can be made by anyone who knows the Ceremony for it.
Currently, that’s only one person.
But I’m not going to get too deep into this, because it’s a big spoiler in the book, but that’s about it.

Very true. The cycle of violence do be cycling. We can blame Lamsara Hedandros, it's his fault the Silver Sovereign is like that anyways
Truth for the worldbuilding ask game?
TRUTH – What is the most extreme punishment for a crime?
Hm, that depends. Generally, execution is the worst it gets on the continent, usually by hanging. The Republic does penal slavery instead of prisons, so that's pretty bad too. Skysheerian labor camps are also particularly brutal.
Things get funky when it comes to the Trench. Two types of people end up in the Trench; the ones who can't be killed and the ones who deserve a fate worse than death. By sheer value of the Trench being underwater, only seafolk are getting that second option.
Another brutal punishment from siren culture is the removal of the tongue. Without the Voice, a siren is cut off from their god, which is seen as a hellish fate. So, you can maybe get a picture of just how pissed off the Silver Sovereign was at Sepo, given that she both cut his tongue out and threw him in the Trench.
Thanks for the ask!
