Man. What a day.
My partner was stopped by the cops for the third time in two weeks...
While we were on the train, there was an accident. We sat there for about 20 minutes before we decided to just get off the train and walk the rest of the way to the Itou Junji art exhibit.
We got off the train and went down the stairs. My partner exclaimed, "Look!" while pointing to an Itou Junji poster. I looked up just in time to not see a bicycle parked right in the middle of the exit. There was a glorious moment of slow motion where I thought I could right myself and failed, falling face first into the gravelly pavement.
I was aware of pain, but the red sharp panic didn't set in until my partner helped me sit up and I saw all the blood dripping down my leg through my torn jeans. I kept my head down to keep from crying. I heard about three other people crowding around us but I was so embarrassed I couldn't look up. I was handed a wet wipe and began furiously scrubbing my knee without making eye contact with anyone.
While I was dissociating and scrubbing my knee, I heard someone come and get the bike I tripped over. The guy was stopped by a bystander while my partner went over to yell at the guy for leaving his bike parked in the middle of an exit. My partner started yelling at the guy "Mite-mii! Mite-mii!" The guy shrugged and went "Sure. Sorry. Whatever." My partner continued yelling "mite-mii!" Until the guy apologized again.
By this time, it was far too late to make it to the restaurant we wanted to visit for lunch. We were looking at a supermarket for a small lunch when my partner said again, "Mite-mii!"
I frowned and asked, "What is mite-mii?"
"It means 'look,' doesn't it?"
"Mite/見て means look, what's mite-mii?"
He thought about it for a minute before coming to the conclusion, "I guess I heard it in an anime."
I pursed my lips. "Was it said by a little girl?"
He thought about it and then went, "Yeah! How did you know?"
"Yeah. It sounds like it was said by a little girl. That's probably why the guy at the station was so reluctant to apologize."
He tried making excuses that maybe the guy didn't pick up on the childish "mii" at the end but I'm absolutely certain he did.

People are oblivious to reality. They only see what they want see, when all they have to do is shift their perspective.
