I'm sorry but I've read too many dystopias to believe this whole "King Magnifico kinda has a point" deal.

He is magically removing his subjects' ability to resist his rule in any meaningful way. He pulls out any ambitions or desires for anything greater and only returns them once he's cleared them of anything subversive. Old man playing the lute to inspire the younger generation is bad because he might inspire them to dangerous ideals like change or improvement or, god forbid, democracy.

"But some wishes are bad!" You know what else is sometimes bad? Emotions. But if you've got a society that says "someone could kill someone in anger so we're going to remove all emotion forever except for the elites that run everything", you'd still get why that is a bad thing and a con. I know the myth of the benevolent dictator has far too much hold on our culture, but the idea that the guy lobotomizing the entire population is definitely doing it for their own good and and it only happens to give him absolute power and control over them is ludicrous.

The problem isn't that Magnifico has a point, the problem is that Disney thought he'd need a magic book to be "really" evil rather than realizing that an absolute monarch running a system Brave New World would envy is already a terrifying villain. Stop trying to half-ass a sympathetic explanation and commit to the bit, Disney! Down with the king!

random but i have watched wish and listened to the soundtrack sm times... i love this movie i love asha i love king magnifico 🙏🏽💗 anyone who's ever hated on this movie you suck and i do not like you! asha is literally iconic. i can not explain how much i love this movie... made me cry so much. my fav songs are this wish and at all costs. beautiful 10/10 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽

as a trans harry potter fan of course i appreciate people who are vocal allies. god knows we need them. but at the same time i don’t know how i feel about seeing cis people posting out of the blue “harry potter fans dni, i don’t trust you if you’re a harry potter fan, find a different book it’s not that hard” and the like

it’s already a hard and personal choice to engage with hp in any way if you’re trans. i find it a bit patronising in the way the above suggests the person hasn’t done their own research and balanced pros and cons and made the best decision for themselves. it also makes me think how people who say that clearly haven’t interacted with the hp fandom in a while. i’ve been here for well over a decade and i’ve never seen such a vocal saturation of diverse voices, transgender and of other minorities alike. the trans representation in headcanons, fanfiction and fanart alone skyrocketed in the recent years and it only seems to be climbing up. because now you just can’t exist in hp fandom spaces without being loudly anti jkr and a trans ally. and ironically, that’s the reason why the fandom has become a bit of a safe space for many

So, I’ve been seeing a lot of people trying to prevent book banning, but what’s funny is that a lot of people in the trans and queer communities are supporting anti-book banning campaigns while at the same time advocating for the banning and removal of the Harry Potter books from libraries, schools, and bookstores because the author is a TERF (I’m not defending Rowling or anything, I’m just calling people out). It’s gotten even worse considering that people are falsely accusing the books themselves of being transphobic as well as saying that they promote nazism (even though the series main antagonist believes in racial purity/supremacy and wants to exterminate/enslave the races he views as inferior), like come on, we know that you don’t feel comfortable around the HP franchise, but banning books and making up lies about their content makes you no better than the transphobic people who ban books like Ron DeSantis 🤦🏻‍♂️
