the idea of Wu getting the attention of another guy and mako internally freaking out has so much potential. For angst (a little) and fluff once Wu reassures mako that he only wants him. I don’t even think Wu would realize some guy has a crush on him. Or maybe it’s not even the guy has a crush maybe wu saw the other guy being touchy from far away and misconstrues it but the guy is like blind or something and was grabbing wus arm for support

I was trying to think of who it would be and my mind kept landing on Tahno but he's doing it on purpose to piss Mako off 🤣

Hi everyone, welcome to my Wuko blog. Here you will find pretty much everything Wuko that I have gathered from the corners of Tumblr. I keep the queue filled and it posts 3 times a day, plus anything new that pops up.

Is any of them the jealous type? Not founded of course because they are made for each other lol

OH okay so. I actually have feelings about this. I kind of touched on it in my fic but let me get into detail about my feelings.

Wu is not jealous. Wu trusts Mako like, COMPLETELY. it does not even occur to him to be jealous. I made this choice very deliberately to contrast Asami's relationship with Mako where she was quite jealous of him because she liked Korra of Korra because Mako was clearly very concerned about her.

But something I love playing around with between Mako and Wu is how utterly UNLIKE Korra and Asami Wu is. Wu and Mako never struggle to communicate like Mako and Korra, and Wu's never jealous or distrusting of Mako the was Asami was.

Now I don't really see Mako getting jealous either... I don't think he's the type to be like... weirdly possessive of his partner or whatever. But I wonder if he has more insecurities in their relationship than Wu does? Like. Wu kind of puts Mako up on a pedestal, treats him like he's perfect and flawless or whatever. And Mako doesn't feel like he really is as 'good' as Wu thinks. So he kind of feels like eventually, he'll be 'found out' and Wu won't feel as strongly for him??? and in light of that, I think I can see Mako getting like. Really anxious if Wu ever has the attention of another man. Not in a super jealous, fuming way, but more like 'oh god he might totally leave me for another guy when he finally figures out that I'm not as great as he thinks I am'

Also I've made a post about this before but aside from Airbender Wu I'm obsessed with the idea that canon nonbender Wu has the potential to be a competent badass like Asami but different, in his own style.

And I actually got this idea during the clip show episode and the wuko segments, when it occurred to me that Mako is probably training him to fight the way Mako himself learned to fight.

And I don't think that fighting style fits Wu's mindset, temperament, build, anything really, it's a style informed by street fighting and firebending, two things Wu could not be further removed from.

He's an earth kingdom prince used to fine silks and jewelry, expertly moving about the world with the grace and balance of a dancer even when confronted with physical aggression...

Say, doesn't that sound familiar to anyone else?

I'm just saying, he could be the earth kingdom royal to denounce the Dai Li and bring the Kyoshi Warriors to the forefront of their culture.

By becoming one himself.

When it comes to Wu learning to defend himself and fight, I have two favorite hc.

1. Yes yes yes to Wu training with Kyoshi Warriors. I will say that I'm hesitant to have him become a Kyoshi Warrior, because Kyoshi Warriors are women. (Though if people have hc about Wu's gender being different, that's certainly worth exploring!) But much like Sokka was permitted to train with them, I see no reason why Wu couldn't learn from them as well! I think if given the opportunity, Wu would pick up the fighting style quite well. The method of fighting practiced by the Kyoshi warriors, and originally taught to them by Rangi herself, is focused on turning your enemy's strength against them. Seems like an excellent style for Wu, as he's built much more slender. I think he'd be into the overall aesthetics, too. I also love the idea of some Kyoshi warriors becoming his royal guard and replacing the role of the Dai Li.

2. Training with Asami. Asami has taken formal self defense lessons since she was a child. She has the technical know how of self defense and since she learned it formally, I think she would be excellent at teaching it formally. To further my Asami-teaching-Wu propaganda, check out the description of Asami as a teacher from the Avatar Legends Wan Shi Tong's Adventure Guide:

As a teacher, Asami is encouraging and supportive—she prizes an individual’s own inventiveness when channeled appropriately, far more than her own ideas. When it comes to the overall tone and style of mastery conditions set to PCs, Asami will emphasize thought over force, clever ideas over direct results. Asami wants those who learn from her to see how problems can be solved in many ways, and there’s nearly always a better way, in addition to seeing how they can help others and don’t always have to solve the problem on their own.

I just feel like Asami would make a good, patient teacher, I think her formal training would translate well into teaching skills, I think she might actually appreciate Wu's creativity and out-of-the-box thinking, AND I think her foundation in self defense would be ideal for Wu to learn. I don't see him needing to be a fighter in the thick of battle right alongside the rest of Team Avatar, but he should certainly learn to hold his own to protect his own life and limb.

Regardless of how Wu learns self defense and/or martial arts, we can all agree on one thing, I'm sure. Mako is a terrible person to be teaching him. He was literally the worst teacher in Remembrances lol like what was he even doing. And you're right, his style of fighting does not match the kind of fighting that Wu should learn or that he would be able to master.

That's ok. Mako can cheer him on from the sidelines!

in my honest opinion im very questionable of wuko having children in their 20s or early 30s especially while mako is in the process of healing from the trauma of his parentification & also with wu being busy 24/7 with the earth kingdom's transition to democracy (which he also implied would take decades to do)

but on the other hand im also thinking about wuko finally getting to settle down later on in their lives (maybe 40s to early 50s)and maybe having a leedol child and doing domestic stuff with their litle child like reading them bedtime stories and playing with them making those stupid little macaroni paintings and watching their child grow up and go to school and stuff and just be a happy family it makes my heart warm 💖 im going to use ur asks to ramble about them xd

We're on the same page anon, I really have a hard time with the idea of Mako basically finally getting to just take care of himself, only to turn around and go right back to selflessly caregiving and putting himself last.

I love babies and kids but it's so hard to raise kids. I have a hard time putting that on Mako. Let him rest for goodness sake.

I compromise by giving Bolin and Opal kids. Mako can enjoy the fun parts of caring for children and then hand the kiddo(s) back to his brother at the end of the day. I kind of think... Maybe having fun with his nieces and nephews could be a part of that healing process? Like. Getting to experience all the joys of childhood that he was deprived of? I just MELT at the idea of Mako and Wu taking the Bopal babies to the Zoo and seeing the badgermoles 🧡🧡🧡 GAH can you even imagine. I think doing those things can be a window into what real parenting could be like. It doesn't have to be all sacrifice. there's joy and laughter too. Once he can process all his childhood trauma and he can see a way to be a caregiver while still valuing himself and his own happiness... Yeah. I can see it happen. But that takes YEARS for sure. I think maybe when they're around 40ish could be a good age to adopt.

And oh god when they do adopt it's like. Domestic fluff nonstop. Wu's got trauma too (in my headcanon) from being raised by his aunt. He's gonna be determined to make sure their kids are loved.

I do hc them adopting older kids, but the more I think about it, I imagine a big age range. Like a set of three or four siblings, maybe ages ranging from 2 to 12.

How about some fluffy Uncle Mako and Uncle Wu dialogue. Very rough, incomplete, I don't even know when it's going to happen but here ya go:

“Opal said no more plush animals.” Mako kept his eyes on the road as he made the turn onto Bolin’s street.

“I never agreed to that,” Wu said petulantly. “The zoo gift shop has so many! There’s no way I’m going to say no to Ruby's sweet little face if she sees one she wants.”

“Opal says they’re cluttering up the apartment,” Mako said dryly.

“Then I’ll just get her a little one!”

“Wu…” Mako shook his head. “You spoil her.”

“I’m allowed. I don’t get to see her as often!” Wu sighed dramatically. 

“Fine. But if Opal freaks out, I’m not taking the fall for you.”

“Mako! I thought you loved me.”

“I don’t love you enough to face Opal,” Mako said with a straight face. Wu just giggled in response.

“Okay, okay. I see how it is. So much for my big, tough guy. Shaking in his boots at the thought of a scolding from sweet Opal.”

“Opal Beifong,” Mako said emphatically. “I’ve learned by now to stay on the Beifongs’ good side.”

I don't believe that Mako is a cheater, in the series he was fairly young and very stupid for doing what he did. With the years and seeing all the pain he caused to his ex partners he wouldn't do it again.

Wuko are very secure in their relationship BUT I totally see Mako being constantly hitted on and not even realize? When he does, he gets hella upset because what if Wu thinks he might? Other people think he would? (My poor kiddo still beats himself up)

Yeah I sometimes feel bad for even calling what he did 'cheating'. I think he was emotionally unfaithful to Asami, because he clearly had feelings for Korra and was basically confessing those feelings to her before he bothered to end things with Asami. But Korra was the one who kissed him and he was just caught off guard by it. The next time it happened it was just a super weird situation that anyone might have done what he did. Amnesia trope my beloved you're always good for stirring up drama.

I definitely don't think he'd do anything like that again.

Yeah I really like Mako freaking out at the idea that Wu might think he was cheating, because he wouldn't blame him for thinking that. Wu knows his whole messy history. I did have a scene like that in my fic.

Mako thinking that Wu is cheating has a lot of possibilities 😈 but yeah since Wu is such a friendly touchy guy and Mako is the kind of person to go into a spiral but itd be mostly because he hardly sees Wu so his mind would go wild once he sees Wu giving some other guy attention but then Wu calls Mako his big tough guy and he knows wu is his. I read this one fic where wu had a half brother and but he didnt tell anyone that was his brother so mako jumped to conclusions and thought wu had feelings for that guy but wu was already in lovw with mako and yeah angst..

Man I know angst is fun but even misunderstandings are so hard for me to imagine lol I always hc that they talk to each other really well.

I do feel like Mako can get in his own head about things and when he's got feelings he doesn't always act rationally (see: reunion car chase) so yeah he might jump to some conclusions. I think he wouldn't get like possessive or jealous or whatever though. I think he would be like. Self depreciating about it. Like yeah, that tracks, I deserve this, I cheated on my exes now I'm getting cheated on, he's royalty he could always do better than me etc etc.

yeah i think mako would hate himself for 1000 years if he did something as dumb as cheating on wu. (someone who is so insanely compatible with him it will be impossible to find someone like him.)

wu would probs not even want to say what mako did so they wouldn't think badly of mako and then after korra and asami push a bit the floodgates would open and he'd break down explaining what happaned then they would proceed to kick makos ass (emotionally) or maybe some violence idk if wu would ever take him back tho? asami took mako back after he kinda cheated on her with korra so idk if he has forgiveness in his heart. this is so angst and yeah i also think its ooc for mako since he wouldnt intentionally hurt wu like that but its kinda fun to think of characters i love in pain 💔❤️‍🩹

It'll be the next harmonic convergence before Mako stops hating himself if he cheats on Wu.

I actually think Wu would take him back. I mean, he shouldn't, but he would. I hc the Wu really sees the best in Mako so even if he really, truly hurt Wu I think Wu would forgive him and tell himself that it was just a one time thing, lapse in judgement... If we're being really angsty maybe Wu blames himself for Mako straying idk. NOT THAT HE SHOULD. just like. I could see that happening. At least in this bizzaro world where Mako would actually do that
