Being turned by your partner is something that can be incredibly intimate as long as both parties are consenting and the one being turned is 100% sure they want it. I was saying to Emet earlier that one of the big things I was worried about with this fucking Kristi Noem thing was that she was trying to present this as "a rural thing"

Like "oh you city people just don't understand, this is just how it is in rural places"

And I really didn't want to see this just accepted by the news media, most of whom have never lived anywhere rural, as just "how we are"

Like, no, absolutely not, we don't just fucking shoot dogs bc they aren't good at being hunting dogs. Everybody I've ever personally known who hunts with dogs knows that a dog that is a bad hunting dog may be a great family pet. It's clear that people like that must exist - she's a person, after all - but it's not just How Things Are.

There are enough bad stereotypes about Rural People. We don't need more.

However, I have been relieved to see that a bunch of places covering this have had people on who grew up in rural places & who were pushing back on this hard, saying exactly that: no, this isn't normal.

A few days ago, I had a panic attack. The thing is, I didn't realize it was a panic attack and emotionally felt pretty decent throughout the whole thing--just very physically uncomfortable. My mom suggested it could be a panic attack, but I thought she was wrong because I didn't feel panicked at the time.

It kept getting harder to breathe, and eventually I started getting dizzy/extremities were going numb, so my mom called 911. During this time, as one could imagine, she was very worried I might actually be having a heart attack due to the numbness in my hands, some flatulence (I'm just really gassy) and my mouth also starting to go numb. I was also worried, but was maybe disassociating a little and didn't really feel it. While we were on the line with the operator, 2 of my siblings came out to get me water and aspirin at the operator's recommendation. The younger one looked freaked out, so I told him if he didn't go back inside I was going to "strip myself naked and start jorking (sic) it violently," which caused both my siblings to start laughing. I couldn't actually move much at the time or make good on the threat.

My mom got really mad at me for saying that because it was on a recorded line, but I just started laughing harder at the thought of some poor person doing 911 training and having to hear me being absolutely stupid on the other end. Eventually paramedics showed up, confirmed I had probably just had a panic attack, and everything calmed down. My mom went inside to try and unwind, and we didn't speak for the rest of the night.

Today, she came up to me and we talked about it. She said I had embarrassed her by laughing on the line, but couldn't explain how in a way that made sense to me. Privately, I don't think I did anything wrong, but I apologized to try and make her feel better.

Trying blackwork embroidery for the first time!

I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time, but I was intimidated by the lack of instructions. Yeah, it’s only backstitch, but where do you start? What’s best practice for moving around the piece? How do you do Holbein stitch without losing track of where you are in the pattern?

So this is me saying fuck it there’s no rules. Whatever works.

so I just got my hands on the new Red Heart Granny Square yarn and it’s…interesting! It’s cool to have 5 colors in one skein to eliminate a lot of weaving in ends. Definitely some trial and error to figure out which hook/tension to use when crocheting so that the next color doesn’t start too soon or too late.

Also Yarnspirations has said that only their granny square pattern works (which is the main one I’ve been doing) but I’ve found that lots of people have made variations like the mitered one in bottom right! I’m obsessed.
