Bringing Emotion to Combat
Its been a while since I've posted about Extraordinary Expedition, but I'm curious to see how a mechanic I'm about to playtest will work. Emotions are a large part of the game's identity as I want to focus on the connections players have with each other and the world's inhabitants. What I recently added was a mechanic for them while in a stressful situation. Emotional outbursts occur when a conflict takes a turn for the worst or when you need to enhance your abilities no matter the cost. Because of your panicked state, you also become easier to hit as your Defense Points decrease. When I've played games like D&D, my players typically make reckless decisions the closer they got to falling unconscious. I figured it would be interesting to add a mechanical representation of this feeling of stress to the game. It gives players a reason to worry about reaching low health or use their health as a resource in order to turn the tide in their favor while also having a powerful roleplay moment.
