Urgent request! Can someone please update these lyrics to describe He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named (seriously, the algorithms will pick it up) who resides in the White House? There are so many gems for a parody. More on the influence of this film another time!
“He sits alone on a giant throne/ Pretendin' he's the king/ A little tyke who's rather like/ A puppet on a string/ And he throws an angry tantrum/ If he cannot have his way...”

This English fictional cartoon band is what the world needs (to be reminded of). The Beets were so formative on this blogger that their songs resurface while falling asleep (more than they should), the mention of Tofu, and, of course, with the reminder of Doug Funny. The Beets played surprisingly catchy music even while they were only featured in a few episodes and mostly just represented a shared hobby for Doug and Skeeter. Should we start a petition for a full fictional cartoon album? Fictional cartoon music makes perfect sense in 2018, right?

Can you recall 2006? Pop music like the rest of us still felt as fun and frivolous as Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie’s The Simple Life. This is all pre-financial collapse!  Fittingly, The xx are here to remind us that they can turn just about anything into a yearning love song. It’s both a fun throwback and, of course, and xx-ian dance punk spin on a classic diddy.
“Ain’t gotta do nothin’ crazy.”

This video is...confusing. But at least this reminds you why early Russian cinema placed so much emphasis montage. Though this one showcases a perplexing mix of Carrie Underwood’s physical and lyrical skill mixed with civil rights marches, cancer survivors, and sports endeavors, somehow it’s still moving to behold. We are puzzled by the effects of this track, but somehow bopping along. The confusion warranted a share. Is Underwood pro #MeToo? Pro women’s march? This track fittingly debuted during the Super Bowl, but does it fit politically?
At least Luda acrostically raps out the word champion!

This classic. Much respect to the Neon Indian cover, which adds a more hollow interpretation, appropriate for our highly digital age. Either way, let’s revolt.

Broadway’s finest collaborated to make this musical theater mash-up of our dreams and decided to donate the proceeds to March for Our Lives, giving us hope for change in these trying, frustrating, dark times.
We’ll be posting other classic tunes about the kids starting to their own revolution because the least we can do is make the soundtrack.
TOMORROW THERE’LL BE MORE OF US.

Surprising choice? Agreed. But 2017 is entropy realized. This country song feels vintage. Maybe influenced by Nina the Great? Either way, we’re just hearing this track as the collective unconscious of America.

It’s wild Dylan granted Conor McPherson permission to do Girl from the North Country at all. So far, the best thing to happen in 2017! Dylan’s words are prescient as ever:
Big-time negotiators, false healers and woman haters Masters of the bluff and masters of the proposition But the enemy I see wears a cloak of decency All non-believers and men-stealers talkin' in the name of religion And there's a slow, slow train comin' up around the bend
SEE THIS SHOW.

You can’t really beat a Dylan original, but this is lovely. The key to nailing a Dylan cover is to try something unique musically. It’s too challenging to emulate the master.
