I don’t know if anyone has ever done this before but, here ya go… The Different Types of Fanfiction! 

I probably left a few out, but these are the most common, compared to their base fiction’s canon plot. Enjoy! XD

I have a question for the fanfic writers among you: How do you treat your work in progress when a very similar story is put out there? Do you go on writing - in the spirit that everything is unique in its own way - or do you abandon the piece - in the spirit of preventing 'superfluous' contributions?

Let's add a further wrench into the process by saying the recently published work by another author, so similar to your own, seems so much better written than your own (granted we are always our own worst critics). Where do you go with that?

Maybe this is a question for readers, too. Do you mind reading similar works/story lines?

Snippet Sunday Tuesday, whoops

Thank you @brandileigh2003 for the tag, i just wrote soemthing sad, so decided i have a snippet worth sharing. Yes, I'm blaming you for it, even though its The Hobbit ..... (love ya really) So here is the snippet, talks of death and its canon compliant so ...

A death she was happy to embrace with open arms. She had always been afraid of death. Had always been surrounded by it. Her amad and signamad and the majority of their people's deaths to a dragon. Her signadad, all of her uncles and her brother to the orcs at Khazadum. Her father to wherever he went off to after tryig to reclaim Erebor. It had hurt, it had burnt her alive inside, but until Vili's death she had been able to carry on, to endure the way a princess should. But then her One died in an avoidable mine collapse. A callopse that lit a fire in Thorin, one she hadn't seen since he was a young dwarf wanting to change the world for their people, for his nephew, for her. But his fire, his new spark, his unending quiest had destroyed the life she had etched out for them. The life she had clawed out with her fingertips. The children she had clung on to with all she was worth. A dragon and gold and an inhereted curse or whatever it was that had sent her brother hurtling down their signadad's footprints. Somehting she felt great pity towards Thorin for, and yet, beneath the pity and the love, she hated him. She hated him more then any other member of their family who had left her behind. Because he didn't just leave her behind, he left her alone whilst taking her whole reason for living with him.

Five Fic Feedback!

Tagged by: No one! Seen this floating about a few fandoms, and decided to bring it over to bagginshield!

Rules: Pick five fics you've written, then tell us about how you feel about it vs how readers have received it!

1 - Bad Blood

My Thoughts: This one is way bigger than I meant it to be! It was going to be about 5k words and the only scene I had in my head was Bilbo biting the elven guard, haha! Readers: People really seem to love this one! I feel like feral Bilbo is always a crowd-pleaser, and this fic got much more attention than I ever expected it to! - 2 - Soldier My Thoughts: I'm really proud of this one. It was my first bagginshield fic, and it was after a loooong break from writing. Even though it's a bit weak in places, I have such a soft spot for it. Readers: I ended up re-posting this one after some harassment kicked my confidence down the toilet, but since then the reception has been very positive! - 3 - Poet My Thoughts: I'm sorry to say it, but this is probably my least favourite fic I've written. If it wasn't so popular I'd have removed it and altered the end of Soldier so it was just one fic! Readers: This fic seems to be very popular, and was the first time someone made art of my work - and more than once! I remember posting the first chapter and not expecting very much, only to come onto tumblr and see random posts where folks were super excited to see it was updating! It was such a lovely feeling! - 4 - My Ego Dies My Thoughts: I genuinely love this one, I think it's probably my personal favourite. I really enjoy playing about with the idea of "forgiveness" between Bilbo and Thorin, and this fic really scratched a particular itch for me! Readers: Probably my least popular fic - statistically, at least! I've found most folk weren't into it for one reason or another, but the people who love it, really, really love it! -

5 - Stealing Moments, Moments Away My Thoughts: I wish I'd taken more time with this one in some ways, but in others it really is the reshirement fic I wanted to tell. Again, I got to tinker with that "forgiveness" trope, and have a good look at what survival might realistically have meant for Thorin. Readers: This one is a quick read, and it's soft and fluffy, so I think readers enjoy it for that reason, though I believe some found it a bit boring. It was being updated almost daily, and the folks who were invested came back to comment and read practically every time I updated, which was just amazing to me! - 6 - Backs To The Wall (Sorry, I've written six, so I wanted to do all of them!) My Thoughts: I wrote this because it was something I wanted to read, and couldn't find. It's been amazingly fun, and I told myself when I started (knowing it was going to be fairly long - even if I didn't realise quite how long at the time, haha) that I wasn't going to take it too seriously, and I was really only writing this for myself, as the most self-indulgent kind of nonsense, ever! Readers: I can't begin to tell you how utterly blown away by the response to this I've been. Like?? It's just crazy to me how much folks are enjoying this, how excited and supportive everyone has been! Five Fic Feedback

So thank you for the tag @conkers-thecosy and for bringing it over here to Bagginshield. It's much appreciated.

I have a fair few Bagginshield/Hobbit fics (47 to be precise) so I figured I would go with the the two most kudos'd fics, the two least and one in the middle to make it as fair as I can.

1) Stop me Fading - So, most know how this is what got me back into fandom and like Tolkein, started as a bedtime story for my boy (cause BOTFA made him sad lol) and I know my writing has improved drastically, I know it needs a rewrite but it was my first fanfic in 20 years and I love the story and the idea behind it.

What others think - It's my highest kudos'd fic (It is also my oldest) but by the comments on it, people really seem to enjoy it and the idea behind it.

2) Defying Death (or at least the ones in charge) - I think this is one of my fav fics, Afterlife is one of my favourite tropes and BAMF Bilbo too. When we talk about self-indulgent fics, this is mine, and I still love it as much as when I wrote it.

What others think - I guess I'm not the only one who loved BAMF Bilbo, and reading about him taking on valar and an entire mountian of dwarves to get to Thorin seems to tickles others fancy too

3) The Demented King Under the Mountain - My one and only attempt at Horror/Thriller (?) I dont know, but I'm not going to lie, it isnt one I re read often (all at all).

What others think - I mean, the comments are so kind, and its in the middle of the kudos, o for those that like the darker stuff. I'm really glad they enjoy it.

4) Far over the Misty Mountains:A hobbit with a heart - Not one of my best, but it was a fun little write.

What others think - I think a fair few people think it's cute. It is, however, on the shoter side at only 850ish words.

5) The Last Durin Princess returns home - If I have one underrated fic, it's this one. As a fandom, we don't give Dis enough credit, but I do understand considering if we follow BOTFA like this fic does, it's just pure sadness for her. That being said, the Princess Undr the Mountain deserves all the love, and I love this fic, no matter how sad it is, that I wrote about her.

What others think - the few people who have commented on it or spoken to me about it seem to like it in that post-BOFTA sadness kind of way. So i'm glad for that and sorry for making them sad.

Bagginshield Fic Rec

I can’t believe I’ve had such an intense revival into The Hobbit Fandom after being obsessed with the movies when they came out just over 10 years ago now. There’s just some fandoms that have consistently amazing fanfics that are written beautifully and with such interesting concepts.

Some of these are a bit silly and cracky but i think that’s the appeal of The Hobbit, it’s a bit more cheerful than LOTR (vehemently ignoring Battle of the Five Armies)

Woke up and chose angst :}

Have you ever wondered of what were fili’s last thoughts? Like obviously he was thinking of kili and Thorin and how at least he gave his brother a chance to survive, but i like to think that he thought of his Amad the most.

Being the firstborn wasn’t easy especially considering he’s Thorin’s heir and Dis was one of the only people that made him feel like all that didn’t matter, he was just Fili, her son, her confidant (especially after her husband’s death), her partner in crime.

He died regretting many things and one of these was being forced to leave his amad behind

Or, at this point (depending when it's set) if he believes Sirius, he is a Triwizard tournament champion and th echosen one. Maybe he wants to fight for his godfather? A man who with one visit is now terrified for Harry after all he has learnt, somehting the lad has never had before?

Should I be writing Brumous?? Yes, yes, I should.

Am I instead writing a story about Sirius never escaping in third year and Harry finding out about him later and wanting to visit him in prison? Uh… yep.

Serein: After a very peaceful third year at Hogwarts where the most exciting thing to happen was Scabbers getting lost at the Quidditch World Cup, Harry didn’t know why he thought fourth year would be just as peaceful. Except, his name was put in the Goblet of Fire and he found himself tied to a tombstone while a man named Peter Pettigrew said some very strange things about a man named Sirius Black.

Weekly Roundup: 21st April - 28th April

Did we all have a good week? Mine was much better, so hopefully yours was too. You alll deserve the best of weeks ever <3

I only worte 10,844 words this week, but with that I have 3 fics written and posted. and one has the biggest treat possible. Check out this art by @hobbityalse for the TSF fest and give them all the love they (And Thorin, Bilob, FIli, Kili and Frodo deserve)

Makes the Whole World Blind - Chrononautical - The Hobbit (Bagignshield, I love when they are feral for one another)

Summary: Bilbo Baggins has been kidnapped. Thorin Oakenshield considers a proportional response.

Nori Needs a Burglar - SunnyRose - The Hobbit @sunnyrosewritesstuff (Bagginshield, this is so clever and Bilbo getting caught in shennanigans accidently is *chef'f kiss*)

Summary: In charge of distracting Bilbo from their party plans, Nori tells the hobbit about a problem they've been having in the treasury. Of course, Bilbo being Bilbo, he managed to stumble upon a conspiracy against the Crown.

Unbreakable - Fantasyinallforms - The Hobbit @fantasyinallforms (Bagginshield, ngl, im not usually fond of the sex pollen trope as a personal prefrence, but this one is done so well and its all about the feels, its wonderfuly written)

Summary: Bilbo and Thorin are captured coming back from a diplomatic mission to the elf king's halls. Their captures have no intention of killing the great Thorin Oakenshield outright; instead, they seek to break him and attempt to use Bilbo to do it.

Bruises on the Heart - thehufflepuffhobbit - The Hobbit (Bagginshield, oblivious idiots, i'm looking at you Thorin, is always such a delicious plotline)

Summary: 5 times Thorin noticed his soulmate’s bruises and 1 time he gave them one.

With a tie not easy to break - MiraHerondale - The Hobbit (Bagginshied woth alternate first meeting, this amount of sweetness isnt good for my heart)

Summary:

“Finally”, said the hobbit, frowning despite his rushing heart. “I was worried.”

The smial was deadly silent behind him, which was surprising, considering how loud the dwarfs had been moments prior. Yet he refused to turn around and check.

“Worried? I thought we were angry.”

Fic for Thauc with the prompts "Bilbo and Thorin met before the Quest, fell in love and got married (in secret or not). How does that affect the Quest?" and "Thorin and Bilbo having an awkward and terrible hookup in Bree several months before the quest and then meeting at the quest."

Clue-finder - TheGrayKnight - The Hobbit (Bagginshield, Bilob being accidently BAMF is brillaint)

Summary: Bilbo originally asked to meet with Balin to discuss what he could do to help restore Erebor. He had no idea Balin would turn it around and talk about dwarven courting customs.

Huh, it ended up being all Bagignshield this week. Not that thats a bad thign of course, hopefully at least one person finds something to read <3

Fili and Kili are the highlight of Thorin's life. Everyhting he does is so they and the other Ereborians can have a better life.

Now on to mine.

Summary - The occupents of Grimmauld Place are rushing to catch the Hogwarts Express. Its time to take a new trip on the train that hearlded so many changes in all their lives. This time they are going to catch it together. A03 here

Remus stood at the floo and looked around. He knew they were going to be late. They were always late for everything now days.

He cast a quick Sonorus on himself so he could be heard throughout the house. Grimmauld Place had expanded over the years, giving them all what they needed in a home. Including working internal floo places, so Remus didn’t have to climb the now 5 flights of stairs with his bum hip.

“Oy, hurry up you lot. We are going to miss the train,” he called into the house.

He listened with a smile as he heard three pairs of running feet. Two much too old to be acting like it was their first time on the Hogwarts Express.

Not that Remus really minded. He was excited about this year. He hated leaving his family behind when he went to work at Hogwarts like he had been for the last 4 years. Now he didn’t have to.

Teddy had turned 11 and was off to boarding school. Even knowing Minerva wouldn’t allow the same things that happened to Harry to happen to Teddy, Remus had refused to let him go if he didn’t have a close adult on sight.

Minerva had taken it as a challenge.

This year Remus was going back as the History of Magic teacher and the Deputy Head. He was giving up his beloved DADA position, but he couldn’t help but beam when his successor came bounding through the doorway, a beaming smile on his face, hair every which way and his glasses askew.

“You might want t put yourself together before we get tot he platform, Professor,” Remus teased Harry, who blushed as he straightened himself out.

Harry just waved a hand behind him, as though Remus should understand why he looked like he had been tousling.

It turned out it was because he was. Remus rolled his eyes as Sirius Lupin walked through the doorway, looking magnificent for a 50-year-old man. Not that they could say that number around his delicate ears.

“Can you believe it, Moony mine? Prongslet tried to lock me in my room. Apparently it would be funny to see the new Charms professor come into the feast late,” Sirius said, a faux glare on his face as he turned, hands on his hips as he stared Harry down.

“Oh please, as if you wouldn’t have enjoyed the attention. Where is Teddy?” Remus said as he nudged Sirius towards the floo, looking for his son.

“He’s packing some last-minute supplies,” Harry said.

“What supplies?” Remus suddenly said, as he turned to look at Harry suspiciously.

“Just stuff he needs for Hogwarts. Don’t worry Moony, I helped him pack,” Harry said with a beaming grin.

“That’s what I’m worried about,” Remus sighed as he watched Teddy come in, his hair bright yellow, no surprise what House he wanted to get into.

Sirius walked over and helped Teddy with his trunk, accepting the hug the boy seemed to dish out so easily. Something that the three men had never experienced, even at his age.

“Thanks Pads, it’s heavy,” Teddy said, smiling softly.

“Its all right Teddy Bear, come on, we’re almost late,” Sirius said as he placed a kiss n Teddy’s head before taking the trunk and walking through the floo, Teddy on his heels.

“I think he loves that boy more than me,” Harry said with a laugh and a smile.

Remus knew he was joking, knew he didn’t mean it, but he instantly whipped around and grabbed Harry’s shoulders. It didn’t matter how broad he got, how filled out, how he aged, he was still the little boy Remus and Sirius had adored before he had even been born; he was the boy they had fought and literarily died (and came back) for.

“He loves you more than anyone in the world, Harry, including me. The wonderful thing about Sirius is he is made of love and loyalty, but I promise he doesn’t love Teddy more, he doesn’t love me more. He knows I can and will protect Teddy from the world. So even now, even with you as a grown man, you will always be the one he protects first, the one he thinks of first. For Sirius, you have been his first thought for 28 years. It won’t end now, it never will.” Remus said earnestly. Wanting Harry to understand, even now, the depths of Sirius’ love for the boy. All of their love for the boy.

“Ok Moony,” Harry said shyly.

Remus sighed, even a decade of counseling and self esteem work couldn’t get rid of the insidious voice that told Harry he was unwanted, that he was the last choice, that he was here to be used, not to be loved the way they did.

“Come on Prongslet, we have a new chapter in our lives. One we are entering together, ok?” Remus said as he gently squeezed Harry’s shoulder.

“I’m glad we can stay together this year,” Harry mumbled.

“Me too, cub, me too. Now come on, Sirius will hold the train up if we are any later and it will be me Minerva sends the howler too,” Remus said as he ushered him towards the floo.

Harry couldn’t help but laugh as he took the next step on his life journey, one that took him back to where it all began. But this time, he had his family by his side.

You know what, I'm super glad for the bagginshield fandom. It's a lovely little pocket of kind, funny, talented folks, who are all just out here screaming excitedly about a gentle-hobbit and a dwarf king!

My newest Bagginshield fic, its sad, also MCD just to warn you. And once again thank you @sunnyrosewritesstuff, the fanfic title monarch, I bow to you 💖 I hope someone enjoys it <3 Sincerely, the Broken Hearted Summary:

Dis is confused. Thorin should be happy, he is back in Erebor, his heirs are well. He has everything he ever wanted, right?

So why is Dis' brother sad? As a younger sister it is her job to find out and help him if she can. And as always a snippet:

She slowly opened the drawer and then blinked at the first thing she saw. Unsure if it was really them in front of her eyes. She hadn’t seen those beads since they had decorated their amad’s hair. She had chewed on those beads when in her mother’s arms. She had watched as their adad had carefully braided them in each morning. Dis often sat on her amad’s knee as he did so. If Thorin had found them in Erebor then she would have understood him coveting and hiding them away, but he hadn’t. He had had these beads since just after their amad’s death. They were the only thing he would never sell over the years. He had refused to part from them for anything, including Dis’ wedding. In fact, he was so loath to part with them that he had toiled through two winters of gruelling work so that he could buy gold for Dis’ own marriage beads instead of parting with their amad’s.
