He watches her as she writhes against the caress of the sky, as the empty sky looks back at her. At them. Jayce holds himself back, fist clenched and nails bruising his skin and drawing blood. It’s the most visceral Viktor has ever seen Jayce, and he cannot look away.

But soon, Mel is the one who captures his attentions completely. She’s in the middle of a gruesome changing, an unforgiving metamorphosis. Her face is contorted in agony and pain, the chains on her hands and feet straining as she tries to pull away. It reminds Viktor of his own experience, and bile rises in his throat. That look was the last of him Sky had seen, the last she had seen of anything.

Mel made no effort to welcome the suitors sent to her, nor did she attempt to make an impression. There was very little they had to offer, and each of the men sent her way seemed manufactured to catch her interest. Some were positively old, others far too young, and some very crooked. She despised them all.

Lord Jarro Lightfoot. Lord Tobias Felix. Baron Malcolm Graves. All these, Mel made sure to bury. She had the first exposed for having a child out of wedlock, the second for tax fraud and connections to the underground, and the third rumors that he had messed with his country’s elections. There were other suitors who were placed before her as viable options for Prince Consort by the Council, and each of them, Mel stubbornly declined, presenting decent arguments for her objections to proposed matches.

hi darling! thanks for sending this in! the drabble ran a little long, so i've placed it under the cut. hope its to your liking!

the medarda house in piltover is never empty. always too many voices, always too many sounds. even now, her breathing is not the only one in her gallery. mel makes it a habit to paint in solitude. it leaves her alone with her thoughts, yes, but more often than not, her thoughts mix with her paints and transfers themselves in colorful dyes, to the canvas. each piece is a part of her. in this way, she is set free.

motion from the corner in the corner of her vision catches her eyes. jayce shifts as he lounges across from her, looking out over bluewind court and piltover beyond. it is a subtle movement, but a shift all the same. a small smile stretch across her lips as she allows herself to take him in fully now. he is beautiful in all the ways mel desires, and now as the sunlight caresses him as if he is born of it, she struggles to justly capture his essence on canvas. to capture her feelings had never been this difficult before.

"you moved again," she hums, training her eyes back on her canvas as he seeks her gaze. she knows her eyes will betray the magnitude of her feelings for him if he gazes into them long enough.

she is so attuned to him that she can hear the sheepish smile in his voice as he says, "sorry, didn't mean to do so." she gives him a longsuffering sigh even as her heart clenches in overwhelming fondness. she gently placed her brush on the table beside her and sauntered over to him.

"what am i to do with you, councilman?" she asks, a coy quality to her voice that jayce immediately reacts to. he relaxes as she nears him, his eyes traveling the length of her in an appreciative gaze.

"i can give you a few ideas..." he murmurs, looking up at her as she stands over him. she leans down to adjust the angle of his face so that the light hits him just right. still his eyes remains on her, and he seems to revel beneath her attentions as she moves him at her whim and fancy. she moves to place his arm behind his head, but he grasps her hand, placing a kiss on the paint-splattered heel of her palm. mel's skin burns with it.

"stop that," she chides, shaking her head as she pulls her hand from his. "i need to focus."

"you could always take a break." jayce's eyes twinkle, suggestion hidden in their depths as he lets her go. mel only shakes her head again, running a tender hand along his jaw before crossing the gallery to stand before her canvas once more. her hands still buzz from their touch, and she sucks her bottom lip between her teeth as she picks up the brush, and begins to paint once more.

There's a fan theory that Mel's name is only a nickname to a longer one. In the show, she is only called Miss Medarda, or Councilor Medarda, except by a select few. Ambessa, Jayce, and Hoskel. Hoskel refers to her as Mel after she gives him that child's toy as a gift. We see first that Ambessa uses her name in a certain tone when she's trying to get back into Mel's good graces. Jayce only uses her name after they've slept together. Her name is only used by those who are close to her, like, one might argue, a nickname. This is very interesting to me, because if her name is a nickname, what might her full first name be?

Finally, a good take!!! That's definitely an option! One of my guesses was Melanni, and in one of the fics, I have her name as Melaenis, as named by her Shuriman father.

Sometimes all I can think about is how Ambessa says to Mel "you have your father's memory." And then Mel says, "Do not try to ingratiate yourself with me." Mel is her father's daughter; she looks up to him, adores him. Considers being compared to him a form of flattery. Ambessa knows this. Seems to use this to weasel her way into her good graces. Makes me think he was where Mel got her heart from.
