After you had joined the Avengers Pietro had unofficially taken up the mantel of your silent protector. Even though you were more than capable to look after yourself the young man couldn’t help himself, from the moment he first heard your laugh it was like an unexplainable power over him, it was a sound that he wanted to keep for himself forever. He tried not to let jealously consume him as you laughed at something Sam had said to cheer you up. I should be the one to make her laugh, not pigeon wings Pietro through bitterly as you laughed again.

Friday breaktime was special. Everybody waited for Friday breaktime.

Everybody except you.

Every Friday breaktime, in the middle of the morning, it was time to talk to your soulmate. It wasn’t as if you’d all been told this by the teachers, or that it was compulsory, or that it happened in all schools across the nation. It seemed to just be an unspoken rule in your own school, passed down to the new years as they came through. You sat in different corners of the playground, some people liked to find their own space, some people sat in circles and giggled with each other as they talked, some people on the tarmac of the playground, on the grass of the field, on the wood of the benches.

By this point, you’d had seven years to get used to these Fridays and somehow, experience did not make them easier to bear.

A/N - Apparently, I can only write drabbles now. Thor wouldn’t leave me alone so I had to write this. Please do not hesitate to give me feedback on this. I know it’s short, but I still hope you guys like it!

Waking up in your bed alone wasn’t always a bad thing. You had much more space to lay in whatever position felt cozy, you were able to sink into your plush pillows and blankets without interruption, and most times you knew it meant that you could take extra time to sleep in. At least until a big voice attached to an equally big body roused you from your peace.

“Good morning, my love!” Though Thor’s voice startled you, it wasn’t enough to make you even bother to lift your head, let alone open your eyes.
