Or it was the final compulsion on the path to Becoming! He could be an avatar now!
Oh, another interesting thing.
The statement giver, who I'll call the Dice Roller, opens the story with this:
Yeah, I see you not touching them. Smart. But gloves aren’t going to be any protection if your hand slips and they go clattering across the table. I’d put them in that box real careful, because let me tell you, those babies are due for some serious bad luck.
And it closes with this:
They’re yours now, and I never want to see them again. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a blow, but… I’m just not the right guy to carry them. Besides, I’ve seen how they treat people who give them away. It’s a damn shame, though. Well… maybe just once more. For old time’s sake. [Transcription ends due to interruption. Statement giver declared dead by paramedics at-scene.]
This points to one of three possibilities.
One, Dice Roller was suddenly an idiot out of nowhere, The End.
Two, Dice Roller was compelled by the dice to roll against his better judgment. Something, something, gambler's knowledge of odds VS habitual compulsion.
Three, Dice Roller knew exactly what was going to happen and rolled anyway. Maybe because he knew what would happen. Which would tie in neatly to the other compulsion shown in the statement--the compulsion to be Part of a Horror Story. To lean into the bit that wielding the dice was arranging for him.
He began as the Protagonist. Then he dipped into the role of Mysterious Figure Offering a Roll of the Dice. Then, when it was clear he wanted to be neither, the dice loaded themselves to take him out in proper Horror Story fashion. They simply have to part ways on that final deadly scare.
It paints an interesting what-if scenario for other bogeymen-in-progress and what payoff might be waiting for them if they dare to jilt the Fearful powers that be.

So, the Magnus protocol eh?
First off, Sam, DO YOU NOT LISTEN? What what’s the first case you got? LITERALLY YELLING AT YOU “DON’T GO TO THE MAGNUS INSTITUTE RUINS” WHY DOT YOU LISTEN! And don’t make Alice suffer the consequences with you man…
Also, I think that Alice is… not gonna survive till the end, sadly. I don’t think she’ll die next week, but….
And another thing, WHERE IS COLLIN!!!!!!! HES “ON SICK LEAVE” BUT WHEN MARTIN WAS ON SICK LEAVE HE CAME BACK WITH A SUPERNATURAL EXPERIENCE! What if the same happens with Collin?
And FINALY, what’s going on with all the food motifs? The bad coffee, apparently amazing mini donuts, not wanting anyone to eat off-site food, and not to mention ep 8.
And ofc there’s Gerry, Gertrude (or GG), Celia, and Georgie,,, Idek how to start with all of that.

It’s TeaHolding, thank you very much.
my main grievance with the tma fandom is that JonMartin is just, an Objectively Bad ship name. I'm sorry but in a world of Lonely Eyes, Door Keays and Terminal Velocities fucking Jonmartin? seriously?? Jon and Martin? yeah i sure hope it does. that is certainly the two main components of that ship. 10,000 people following the ship tag, 9900 fics on AO3, over 5 years of podcast and not a single person managed to popularise a ship name beyond literally just. smokshing their first names together. and don't get me started on "Jmart". that's not a ship name. that's a cornershop 12 year olds go to buy monster. wheres the magic? the ~spooky~? the "first date is essentially the apocalypse"? we are getting a bad grade in ship names, something that is both Normal To (Not) Want and Possible To Achieve.

So was no one going to remind me that in season five there’s an episode (166) where we hear about a guy named Sam trapped in a domain where the horror comes from being underground, taunted with the idea that he can in theory escape but somehow knows he won’t, it is mentioned he once worked grueling night shifts and it’s mentioned directly that time isn’t real there or do I have to keep thinking about this alone?

The horror of getting exactly what you want in TMAGP so far
Spoilers for eps 1 to 3 below
Episode three gives me more evidence to support the theory that the fears don’t operate in the same way that they did in the TMA universe.
Other people have said it, and will say it better than me, but I think that while there is definitely a base of terror that they are arising from, each statement giver so far has begun with a desire.
To see a loved one again.
To learn about the Magness Institute.
To be satisfied with their body.
To get their loved one back when it was clearly faaaaar too late.
And so far the Fears have offered them a version of what they think they wanted only it’s… Wrong…
Loved one comes back, but he’s misshapen and distorted.
Red canary learns far more about the Magness Institute than they ever wanted to know and pays for it.
She can never find satisfaction with the modification she makes. There’s always something off.
Guy literally turns into a tree or something only this time… This time he gets what he wants. Well, he’s under the delusion that he gets what he wants. His lover back. He, at the end of the statement, in a sick and twisted way, is… Happy. and yet even polyp guy knows deep down that this isn’t right. This should be terrifying him, and yet his desire outweighs his terror.
I think, if we are going to find out what will make or break these new characters, we have to figure out first what they want most. And we’ve already got several ideas.
Sam: to learn about the Magness Institute, to figure out what’s going on with these weird statements, to forget about… Some thing… either in his pastor that recently happened to him based on his conversation with Alice in the first episode.
Gwen: to do her job properly. To move up in the world. To be respected.
Collin: to work out what’s going on with these computers. Possibly to figure out who is watching them and why judging from the last bit of episode one as well.
The only two characters whose motivations up to this point are still murky to me are Alice and Lena. I am not sure what either of them wants. Not really.
If I can take a guess at Alice… I think she wants things to stay nice and easy. She doesn’t want to have to confront what’s really going on here even though she clearly knows something is. Better make a joke about it.
Lena? Still not sure…
But either way, both for the statement givers and the main characters, their desires more so than their fears will be their undoings, I think.

AGHHHH
Martin has read two statements so far and one is about doing something unspeakable to get the man you love back (and then he comes back wrong anyway) and the other is about killing the one you love and being irreparably transformed by it
