The mountain planet from Freezeflame Galaxy. Since it took so long to set up the shaders on this model, and since it's so big and detailed, I decided to make an extra-large render.

Just a friendly reminder that this critter exists with the files of Super Mario Galaxy. Its name is BigBigFly.

Here is the trophy video for the Poinpy drill fish enemy my 99th one! Not my 99th model, of course. Once again, I recommend checking out the game's soundtrack by bo en.

Drill Fish Enemy
Released: Apr. 13, 2024 Type: Prop Game: Poinpy
Surprise, another Poinpy model! Even though I made the spike block enemy first, this is the enemy design I saw that first inspired me. Such a neat idea! I actually started this immediately after the previous model, but didn't have the time/energy/motivation to finish it until today.

Wrecking Crew '98 is now on Switch Online! Now everyone can experience the obscure, clunky, frustrating puzzle game that gave us the modern Gotchawrench design.

Hey everyone, I have some news that is totally unrelated to today's date. I've decided I want to change the direction of my blog. Instead of fanart, I want to focus on my 150+ OCs and their lore, backstories, etc. I hope everyone enjoys the characters I have created, because that's all I'm going to be talking about from now on.
Tumblr media
Please look forward to tomorrow, when I will be posting by 12,000-word deep dive into OC #018: Cheese Cat, the Cat Made of Cheese.

It is a legend no one will forget. Everyone thought King Koopa had left the Mushroom Kingdom, and then...
I finally went and released my old model of the Doomship from the Super Mario Bros. 3 cartoon! I made it all the way back in 2010, though I didn't really finish it until 2021 when I added the anchor and figurehead. I was hoping to clean it up more or do something cool with it, but I decided I've been hoarding it long enough. It's not super-detailed and doesn't have any interior, but the whole exterior shape is there. I pity the animators that had to draw this thing from so many different angles.

Here is the turntable for the spike block enemy from Poinpy! Like I said, I only found out about the game because of the soundtrack, which I recommend checking out.

Spike Block Enemy
Released: Jan. 20, 2024 Type: Prop Game: Poinpy
For the first model of the year, here is something a bit different! It's an unnamed(?) baddie from a mobile game I've never played before! The only reason I learned about this game is because the wonderful Calum Bowen (bo en) composed the soundtrack. The design was too cute and unique to resist! Once again, I intended it to be a quick little project during my work break and ended up going overboard on the quality.

Who needs to buy some silly little flippers when I can just build this thing? Once again, I've made some Link to the Past sprites, this time for both the Zonai Fan and Steering Stick. Just like with the Guardian Stalker, I used renders of the official models for reference. If I had the time, I would have finished all 150+ rotation sprites for the stick! Maybe one day I will.

Here is the trophy for the Autumn version of Pokey from Super Mario Advance 2. I was very tempted to add in some of the game's bitcrushed Mario voice samples.

Autumn Pokey
Released: Dec. 23, 2023 Type: Prop Game: Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2
Here's one last Mario model to end the year with! These little critters appear in place of Pokeys after you beat the Special world in Super Mario World, but only in the GBA remake! Unfortunately, the game doesn't give a proper name for them. The face shape is based on other enemies from more modern Mario games, such as Wallop.
Originally, I figured I would design these guys to be little saw blades. So, using my Saw model as a base, I started putting this model together over the course of a few work lunch breaks. However, I realized that making them thin wasn't very satisfying. Plus, the original sprite isn't shiny at all, so it didn't make sense to have them be metal. So, I changed them to stone and gave them some depth.

How is it that I've gone all these years without rendering my Super Mario RPG models in the classic Super Mario RPG camera angle? I should fix that!

I made a fancy render of the final boss of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door! Since this counts as a spoiler for the upcoming remake, I'm putting it below the fold out of courtesy.
Tumblr media
Unlike the other fancy renders I did, I didn't add rigging to this one. The model is so complex that the developers included a separate pre-posed model just for the tattle portrait!

Here are some bonus renders of the Super Mario World goal and checkpoint gates with flat shading. Just add outlines, and it would look just like the original game! (They're a bit hard to see on the default white background, but should be fine when you view them individually.)

This is the turntable for the Super Mario World goal and checkpoint gates. It really gives you a better sense of how far apart the poles actually are. I used a 3D gradient effect to ensure that the far poles are lighter, just like in the renders.
