Do or Don't? Peplum for Your Bump
Much like white after Labor Day, or leggings as pants, peplum is complicated. Worn right, it's classic, flattering, and "hides a lot of sins" (as my mother-in-law says). But the wrong choice can turn even the …

It’s 1 a.m. and you’re craving a big bowl of pralines and cream ice cream followed by a healthy serving of goldfish crackers. You wonder if you’re going crazy. No, you’re not losing your mind. You’re pregnant and along with your baby bump comes some peculiar pregnancy cravings.
According to PsychologyToday.com, odd or even downright bizarre cravings are normal during pregnancy. In fact, those cravings may even be for foods that the expectant mother didn’t even enjoy prior to being pregnant. Cravings like these usually appear during the first trimester and peak in the second. They are unpredictable and can differ from previous pregnancies.
According to studies, the most common pregnancy cravings in the U.S. are for dairy and sweet foods, including chocolate, fruits and juices. There are many hypotheses as to what causes pregnancy cravings. Most blame the significant hormone shifts during pregnancy but none of the hypotheses state with absolute certainty what causes the specific cravings of pregnancy.
Tumblr media
Here are some examples of pregnancy cravings of the stars (from Parents.com & USMagazine.com) that prove you’re not alone in your odd cravings.
Natalie Portman - Anything with vinegar
Jessica Alba - Ham and cheese sandwiches
Alyssa Milano – Broccoli
Christina Applegate – Avocados
Pink - Sour Patch Kids and Sour Skittles
Jennifer Connelly - Pretzels dipped in cream cheese
Kate Middleton - Chocolates, biscuits, cake
Minnie Driver – Olives
Halle Berry - Bread, salt, and pickles
Gwyneth Paltrow - Banana toffee pie
MaDonna - Poached eggs
Katie Holmes - Cupcakes
Debra Messing - Frosted Mini Wheats cereal
We’d love to hear what type of pregnancy cravings you had (or are having now). Share them on your social media account and tag it #preggonista.

With the announcement of Kate Middleton's second pregnancy, all eyes are sure to be on Her Royal Highness and her royal maternity style. Prince William and his wife, Kate (The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge) announced their second pregnancy on September 8th. The child will be fourth in line to the throne.
The Duchess is known for her fashion style and has been placed on numerous "best dressed" lists. She was featured in People magazine's 2007 and 2010 best-dressed lists, and was number one on Vanity Fair's annual Best Dressed lists in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.
Forget the tight, restricting, and revealing pregnancy outfits common among some Hollywood celebrities, Kate's maternity style is classic and comfortable. Regarding her 2013 pregnancy style, NY Magazine had the following to say, "Kate stuck to what she wears and knows best: classic silhouettes, simple dresses, and topcoats, along with modest, flattering pieces that actually look comfortable." She also repeated outfits and wore the same shoes multiple times.
Regardless of what she wears, fashion-savvy eyes will be following the Duchess over the next nine months and she will undoubtedly shine in her royal maternity style.

Pregnant and Styling in Stripes - Yea or Nay?
We loudly say "hell yea!" You don't have to wait until you're back in your skinny clothes before you wear gorgeous, colorful stripes. Your bump can handle it!
Guess what? Science backs us up. Peter Thompson, an expert at the University of York, in merry 'ole England, did the research and found that wearing horizontal stripes can actually make a person look thinner.
Our Best Tips on How to Wear Stripes
1. Say YEA to horizontal stripes that run across your body and cause a slimming effect.
2. Say MAYBE to vertical stripes - some vertical stripes are elongating which will make you look taller. But, they don't really do your bump any favors.
3. Say YEA to nautical, especially a Breton jersey like the, semi-fitted Breton Stripe Maternity T-shirt by JoJo Maman BeBe which was included in our July 2014 Baby on Board Preggonista Style Box.
Tumblr media
First popularized by Coco Chanel, this classic top - with its rounded neck and a little stretch for a great fit - is a great addition to any maternity wardrobe.
4. Just say YEA to stripes on any clothing item - even your shoes! On those swoelle days (or pretty much the last 8 weeks), continue your bold look by sporting ballet flats, espadrilles or loafers with a striped design.
  5. Just say NO to oversized striped items. You don't want to look like a ship in full sail. Really. (Actually, let's just say NO to oversized items period.)
In welcoming Style,
    Your friends at Preggonista

Meet Stephanie, Our September 2014 Preggonista Spotlight
Stephanie, a mom-to-be from New York City, had several days of style in the wrap dress from our current Gift Box. This versatile piece is by Seraphine and Stephanie looks fantastic at 32 weeks.
Stephanie “loved the dress,” especially since she’d been trying to find a black wrap dress but hadn’t been successful. She liked how the material was soft against her body and comfortable.
She also loved being able create three distinct looks with the dress. She rocked everything from adding a pop of color with emerald green tights to adding texture with a fur vest. And of course every little black dress pairs well with a gold chunky necklace or a classic tuxedo jacket.
Tumblr media
Stephanie enjoyed wearing her black wrap dress to work and got many compliments. Thanks for the report Stephanie!

SmartMom's Teething Bling Bangle
Babies love to explore and one of the first ways they do so is with their mouths. This activity is referred to as “mouthing” and it’s perfectly normal. According to Parents.com, mouthing signals that your baby has a growing interest in its world, and with the help of their other senses of seeing, touching, hearing, and smelling, they will learn more about that world the more they explore.
That’s one of the reasons why Preggonista moms love SmartMom’s Teething Bling Bangle inspired by babies who like to tug (and chew) on jewelry. These stylish teething ring “bling” bangles are made from a food-safe, phthalate-free, federally-approved silicone. Now you can feel safe and confident letting your baby explore your jewelry and look hip all at the same time!  SmartMom’s Teething Bling Bangles are available in a multitude of colors and are made to match other accessories in their product line.

How to Create a Free Digital Collection of Memories
If you’re a parent or parent-to-be, there’s no shortage of memorabilia for you to keep. The sonogram, baby shower invitation, first holiday and first birthday. Your first Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. His or her first school project and teacher’s note.
Memories don’t fade easily, but paper does. You could always create scrapbooks, but that can be time consuming. Plus, maybe you’re not even artsy-craftsy! Somehow, everything will have a way of piling up and ten years later you'll be lucky if you can find these precious items in the attic or basement.
Tumblr media
Little Ava’s first gift to her mommy on Mother’s Day — a hat :).
SOLUTION!
There’s a simple, fun and convenient way to store these tokens: Set up a Gmail account for your child and turn it into a digital collection of memories!
Here’s how:
Create a Gmail (or other email) account. Name it [email protected]. Or, if you haven’t decided his/her name yet, make up a cute nickname for now!
As you collect memorabilia, scan it (if necessary) and send it to the email address.
At any point in the future -- for example, as a gift on your child’s 18th birthday -- share the email address with them.
Imagine their amazement when they log into the account for the first time and enjoy email after email of photos, school projects and mementos. It’ll be pretty amazing reminder for you, too.

How to Have a Bump-Friendly Girls Night Out...Without Cocktails!
There’s nothing better than connecting with your besties and having a Girls Night Out (GNO). Yet, when you or one of your girls is pregnant, your normal hangouts might not be…ideal. Do you really want to take your bump to a sweaty nightclub? Or, go to a restaurant and watch everyone else at the table enjoy $14 cocktails while you sip water with a squeeze of lemon? Probably not.
Here are four ways to have a bump-friendly GNO. And none of them depend on drinking as part of the fun.
Tumblr media
The real fun of karaoke is not the drinks — it’s the performance (or attempted performance in some cases)! Show up for karaoke night at a local hotspot or go to a true-blue karaoke bar. You’ll have a blast belting out your favorite tunes. For a real night to remember, turn up the fun by imposing mandatory dance moves.
Tumblr media
Taking a class may sound like a snooze, but there’s no shortage of fun classes for adults. Think: painting, cooking, bollywood dance (that would be fun with a bump!), or Improv. These may start as a learning experience but quickly turn into the same rowdiness you might expect in a club! Check out the photo of a painting class my girlfriends and I took recently.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For some people, there’s nothing more thrilling than competition. Plan a game night! You can find organized game nights at some venues. Or, pick the friend with the biggest, most comfortable living room and have at it. Check out Ellen’s addictive game Heads Up which you can download as an app on your smartphone. Killer!
Tumblr media
Have a truly custom ladies night with a theme night. Here’s a few ideas:
Taco Night! Find the best tacos in town by going from hotspot to hotspot and trying a taco.
Dessert Night! Skip dinner and treat you and your girls to a decadent treat (or two).
Dress Like Her! Trade names and come dressed as your girlfriend. You'll end up with belly laughs and a whole slew of Instagram-worthy pics.
What are some of our favorite ways to have a Girls Night Out without drinks
Preggonista’s Girl’s Night Out themed Style Box contains items that will have you all set to turn up with your best look! It contains a pencil skirt from Lilac Clothing, "Knocked Up" nail polish and a Teething Bling bangle.
