Day 4 in Havanna, Cuba. Tourists are not allowed to leave the hotels. The situation is uncertain, but most probably we have to leave the country within the next days and the only option will be germany. So we are registered with the german embassy here and they will organise flights, as the airport is officially shut down. In our opinion it's thoughtless and the world is being put into an unnecessary hysteria, with which we will have to fight for a long time, when Corona will be long forgotten by the media and the people. Nevertheless we take the situation and accept it. We can't fight against these forces. So we are already planning how we can continue our bike trip from Germany in a couple of months. Maybe a bit Scandinavia? Maybe a bit Africa? Russia again? Many options, looking forward! :) Stay calm and relaxed! ❤❤ P.s. it's not too bad here of course. A short reunion with Michels parents in Trinidad, Cuba. Very thankful that we could meet them. Cuba just announced that they will close their borders for at least 30 days. So my parents are on their way back to havanna now, hoping to get a plane back to germany. We will probably stay in Cuba for now, we have to do some research and make a plan... Situation in Cuba regarding Corona is still very relaxed. We got some messages that people didn't like how we are posting beach photos at the moment. We don't know what to do actually. Of course there are some tough circumstances at the moment in germany and other countries, but this doesn't mean that the world stops to turn. It's a situation which will end. No one knows when, and of course it could take some time. But life will continue. It has always. We hope for all of us this will happen soon. So we are continuing our normal life on the bikes, as we are happy enough to be in this wonderful and safe country at the moment. We send you best greetings from Cuba! In Germany and the rest of the world the situation seems to be pretty harsh. Here in Cuba we are fine and we hope for all that it will get better again soon. That being said, we enjoy it a lot here. Quiet roads, nice old cars and super cheap food! The last days we had beans, rice and veggies for lunch; a plate for 0.15€! People are friendly and we enjoy the happy overall atmosphere. But sometimes we hear the word "Corona" on the streets as well ... La Habana! Wow, what a city! We walked around a lot and enjoyed the positive atmosphere of the city so much! Everyone is friendly and happy, so many people outside in the streets, and of course some nice old cars :) Yesterday we met Mario, who is from Germany as well and lives in cuba for 25 years already! For 15 years he's been working as a bike guide so he gave us a nice eBike tour through the city! We enjoyed it a lot and it was great again to meet another follower from us in the real live! :) Today we'll leave Havanna and start cycling towards the east. So excited! Belize is really something different! It's the only country in central america where english is the main language. 30% of the people who live here have African roots. Many chinese people also living here, and even some germans. So it's a big mix of cultures and the slogan is always: "Slow down and take it easy". People are happy and some are shouting to us something like "What uuup ma' friend? Everythin' allrigh?" It's funny to see this enormous change from mexico and guatemala. It's a completely different world. Sometimes you can also see and hear the influence of the USA. Many big trucks, and products from the US in the grocery stores. We cycled through the capital city of Belmopan, which has 13.000 inhabitants. Then we went to Belize city and took a ferry to the island of Caye Caulker, where we are right now. It's quite touristic, but Caribbean lifestyle and atmosphere is good. Today we'll do a snorkeling tour! Also Michel got a new haircut, people confirmed it's the up to date style in Belize :) And now be honest: Did you know the country Belize before? Yesterday we explored the archeological site of Tikal, Guatemala. It's unbelievable how the mayas were able to build this city in the middle of the jungle. Over 1 million people used to live here around 1500 years ago. It's mindblowing...! Then we camped on a nice campsite directly at lake peten itza. We got a visit from a little spider in the morning and today is our last day in Guatemala, heading to Belize now! The last daya were a bit unusual to be honest :) We took an overnight Bus from the City of Flores in the north of Guatemala, to the old capital city, Antigua Guatemala. From there we climbed up the Volcano Acatenango and had mindblewing views on the Volcano Fuego. In moments like this you realise how small we humans are, and that nature will always win! The next day Michel took a Bus to the small village El Paredon, directly at the Pacific Ocean. He met an old friend from University there, who is doing a Guatemala trip at the moment! This was, of course, super cool and it was actually the main reason to take the bus from Flores. Great days there and yes, the beach was also quite nice! Yesterday we came back with the night bus to Flores, where we left our bikes in a hostel.
