(spoilers) If you take season 1 of TGP you can sum up Michael Jacobs’ journey with GMW (meta-narrative wise). I mean, the creator of the show is actually named MICHAEL Jacobs. Both Michels’s (Schur and Jacobs) have beautiful creative minds (just like Michael from TGP) that are able to create different and innovative shows, that  will just fail because “the system”(ratings) doesn’t work and actually send them to “the bad place” (cancellation).

This is what I mean when I say The Good Place is an adult version of Girl Meets World. I’m so glad I’ve watched GMW in my teenage years, it got me prepared for TGP (and so much more).
